This course has introduced students to a wide range of informationin addition to questions regarding how so many people in many cases allowed things to happen that were not ethically sound, especially “good people”who did nothing. Unfortunately, too many are rememberedfor not doing anything when they could have done something. I do not want you to be rememberedas one of those individuals. Each of you are a “good person” and each of you are now equipped to be remembered for doing something.For this essay, I ask each of you to do the following: Identify a problem of the past that has been allowed to persist to our modern, contemporary culture because “good people”did nothing. Then once you have admitted there are still problems and have identified at least one of them, explain do me how you personally can and will examine the persistenceof the problem and do somethingto address the problem is your day to day life.I know someof you are thinking, “I’m only one person, what can I do?” Keep in mind that I’m not asking you to be Superman and to save everybody. I don’t expect anybody to change the world, but if you can for the better then go for it! However, I do want you to recognize that the only way things improve is if we make them, we cannot wait for others to solve problems. If we do, we become “good people”who do nothing.I know this is a lot to take in and I know this assignmentis incredibly challenging. I also know each of you are capable of doing this and producing an amazing essay full of insight and self-reflection. This is both the simplestand the most difficult assignment you will complete this semester. All that said, if you have questions, concerns, doubts, or just need a bit of a nudge to get going then please let me know. Emails, office visits, and all are encouraged.
