SOLVED. Some strange kindness story? [s]

It was a very long time ago that I've heard of this story, heard about it around nearly ten years ago I'm guessing, around the age of ten and at school.
The story was about this very generous man. And whenever he saw someone in need he would help. I remember in the book that he gave all his possessions and money up. At one point he was walking around a forest or something and someone needed a body part. And the man was so generous that he ended up giving most of his body away, until he was left with just his head and no eyes. And that's all I really know. I know it doesn't sound possible, but I think it had a meaning at the end.
