Oh, I LOVED Ove by the end it just doesn't seem real to me. I disliked him so much at first. But, I so liked and admired Parvenah (spelling?), the neighbour. She was a no nonsense kind of gal, pushy and was going to be in Ove's life whether he wanted it or not. And he certainly didn't want it at first . It's so sweet the kids call him Grandpa ...just melts your heart. This book is a winner on so many levels, it's a Masterpiece.
I loved Parvana. Just like Karen, I loved her no nonsense approach to handling Ove. She was so likable. She didn't put up with any crap from him, but at the same time, she accepted him and learned to like him the way he was. She also had a few funny one-liners in the book. I remember one part where she is asking Ove why he is so unfriendly and he insists that he is not unfriendly at all and she says "Oh no - your every word is a cuddle - really it is". I loved that line. I used it on my kids until it got old. She was just a great personality.
So far I am enjoying all the characters, except for Ove really. I love the humour that "The Lanky One" is adding with his obliviousness. Parvaneh is great, I love how bold she is. Sonja just seems like a lovely, accepting woman. The story of the relationship between Anita/Rune and Ove, as it unfolds, is making them very interesting characters. I have high hopes that my opinion on Ove will change as the novel progresses. Everyone else seems to love him as well ... by the END of the novel :)
