Looking for WWII YA chapter book series, one of the characters is Jewish, one French. I know it involved planes and escaping.

I saw this book at a prize table years ago at summer camp; it was set in WWII, England (maybe), one of the characters is Jewish, one French. I know it involved planes and escaping. TIP: sometimes I recognize the cover art, so that should help with any of my posts in the future. One of the books had a picture of a groups of kids sitting on a fence at night; it was a drawing...not a photo.
