Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) I'd still like everyone in the team to ok it, but it looks like spell-it-out YEKATERINBURG is the frontrunner, and should be able to satisfy everyone for week one.

I edited the spreadsheet we were given in the first link - hope that's ok - it can obviously easily be changed.

I'm sure we are eager to start!

My suggestion would be that everyone can appropriate one letter straight up - there's 13 to choose from!

I would then suggest that once everyone has locked in one letter each, after that, I'm happy for anyone who finishes a read that fits a letter, fill it in...

Ok with the team?
LOL - I feel like the bossy one ;) ... sorry!

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Can you post that link

Also team name? Who needs a passport? Or reading passport

message 53: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Never mind found it lol (:

message 54: by Lu (new)

Lu (beltari) I'll take the B, I was planning to read Beauty's punishment :)

message 55: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Kelemen | 252 comments I'm fine with Journey to the Center of the Library!

My first choice is to read books by Russian authors or set in Russia. My second choice is to spell out Yekaterinburg, but either way I'm planning to read The Brothers Karamazov so dibs on either the T, B, K, I, or A.

Ive finished a few books since we received our team. I think we can start using them for future goals or spell it out. Should we start a list of finished books or only count books we read for the challenge?

I did the same thing. Even if we're spelling out a word, I read a book set in Russia. It's a bit more challenging that way to me.
I've also read a few books since we started, so I think having a list would be helpful.
I read Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, so either the B or the R would be great, so my book set in Russia could count.

I'm pretty sure we have a majority vote on Journey to the Center of the Library. Let's submit it! :)

message 57: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments Something I find rather amusing...
I'm reading a book for another challenge, where a main character is a thief. So I'm reading this one:
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch
The page count? 499. I thought it'd be completely impossible to find a book with exactly that many pages for the detour, and I'm reading one completely coincidentally.

message 58: by Carol (new)

Carol | 166 comments I vote for Journey to the center of the library.

I also vote to go with spelling Yekaterinburg.

I'll take the K and read King of Ash and Bone by Melissa Wright

message 59: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 876 comments I vote for the spelling challenge and the name Journey to the Center of the Library.

message 60: by Cathy (last edited Feb 21, 2016 02:27PM) (new)

Cathy Galloway | 876 comments According to the rules, we can use any books read after our team thread was started so Thur about 6:00 EST.

I have completed: The Art of Sinning (character Yvette for the Y)
Tri Mates (t in title)
A MacKenzie Clan Gathering (a for Ashley -author)

That leaves
-E---ERINBURG

So I'll take G and read The Glass Castle

message 62: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments All right, so I'll take B for
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
I could also take the I with
Imani All Mine by Connie Rose Porter
but I also don't want us to take everything before all 8 members get a chance to spell out a letter. So the I is a back-up. :)

message 63: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) I'll take the N. My friend promise me a book tomorrow and the author name is Nalini Singh. Update you guys with it tomorrow

message 64: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Hey team!

I hope you can all see the spreadsheet I created for this stop? It's in the link we were provided with in the first post.

Everyone's books that they have listed are in there (except Cathy, I could only make 2/3 you provided work - sorry!).

There's two spare letters - everyone has at least one read in the spreadsheet, so if you have finished a read that fits one of the last two letters, just add it to the spreadsheet.

Have a look - there's a column for you to add the "date read" (i.e., the date you've completed), and a ratings column - give us a score out of 5 so we know how you liked it!

If this format works, maybe we can copy it over for the next stop.

Enjoy your reads team! :)

message 65: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Kelemen | 252 comments Spread sheet looks great! Thanks for organizing everyone's comments Elise!

I read The Vagina Monologues on Saturday which could work for E if we need it, but Im with Rylie, I don't want to use up all the letters, especially with books I just happened to read.

message 66: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments If you guys don't mind, what are the two spare letters that are left? Because of my visual impairment/screen reading software, a google spreadsheet is completely inaccessible to me. I could take one of the two spare letters, no problem. :)

The spare letters are R and U, and here's the link, so you can track it =)

Oooo, I love her Psy-Changling series!

message 69: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Okay so my friend forgot but that's okay im still with N. I'll finish it tonight.
I edit the sheet as well

message 70: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Soooo my book is actually set (at least at the start) in Yekaterinburg.
I did not know this before I started so a little blown by the coincidence!

message 71: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) I forgot how much i love Nora Roberts books! Bahaha didnt sleep cause I was reading it <3

Rylie | 298 comments Roseena wrote: "I forgot how much i love Nora Roberts books! Bahaha didnt sleep cause I was reading it <3"

I read a lot of romance, and I've never picked up a single one of her books, which is kind of crazy cause they sound really good.

I love when things like that happen. :)

message 74: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Let's open up the discussion on the next destination - Phuket, Thailand (man...I wish I was there right now, it's so beautiful!).
This is an interesting one..the detour option is read a book where the characters celebrate Christmas.
I find this week a little uninspiring to be honest!

message 75: by Carol (new)

Carol | 166 comments Read: King of Ash and Bone by Melissa Wright

Finished: 24/02/2016

How it fits: Title begins with K

message 76: by Carol (last edited Feb 24, 2016 09:19AM) (new)

Carol | 166 comments I'll take the E and read Visions of Sugar Plums (Stephanie Plum, #8.5) by Janet Evanovich

Have added to spreadsheet, if that's okay. Only letter left is 'U'

message 77: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Elise it was so we're doing detour next stop?

message 78: by Lu (new)

Lu (beltari) I've just finished with The Glass Castle, so I'll take the U with Un caso de urgencia which it might be considering cheating, since the title's in Spanish, but I'm reading the Spanish edition, so I guess it counts :P
I've updated the spreadsheet accordingly :)

message 79: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) It said we can used translation

message 80: by Carol (new)

Carol | 166 comments Read Visions of Sugar Plums (Stephanie Plum, #8.5) by Janet Evanovich

Finished:: 25/02/2016

Rating: 5*

message 81: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments So I read a book for the next detour by coincidence. I was reading it intending it for another challenge (read a book featuring a teacher,) and it had characters celebrating Christmas in it.
Snowbound
Do you guys still want to do the detour, or would you want to do another task?

message 82: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) I'm happy to open this up to a vote. You get more points for doing the detour, but personally, I'm not too fussed about the points, and reading a book about Christmas in February doesn't really excite me. Not everyone needs to complete this detour to get the points, it's a minimum of four people, so if you're not feeling Christmas-ish, this stop only requires 4/8.

Here's a couple of links for Christmas-ish books if anyone wants to see if there's something that would interest them.

Popular Christmas Books

Favorite Christmas Books

Otherwise, we could do a spell it out of THAILAND - 8 letters so one read each (as opposed to PHUKET, only 6 letters). Then we could do it as we have this week, reader's choice.

Here's a few links to Thai author's, and books set in Thailand, if that interests anyone...

Popular Thailand Books

Books Set in Thailand

If everyone could have a think/look and post your vote?

My vote is for spell-it-out Thailand.

***Good job on the first stop - all letters are full! Just post your date's read and ratings when finished...having said that, I'm lagging, so I better get to it! ;)

message 83: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Christmas or spell it out

message 84: by Carol (new)

Carol | 166 comments Christmas or spell it out, don't mind which

message 85: by Lu (new)

Lu (beltari) I prefer spelling Thailand, my 2nd choice would be the christmas setting

message 86: by Cathy (last edited Feb 27, 2016 04:53PM) (new)

Cathy Galloway | 876 comments I'm good with either one. I can always find something for a spell it out, but my next read is The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror so I'm covered for Christmas too.

message 87: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Kelemen | 252 comments This next stop seems really difficult! I can't find a single Thai author available at any of my libraries and I agree it's a weird time for Christmas books. My preference is to spell out or read books from each country and skip all the detours, but if anyone is worried about points I'd rather do this detour than the ones in South America (it's embarrassing how little I've read from that continent).

I have about 3.5 hrs left in The Brothers Karamazov, so I'll be ready to depart for Thailand by the end of the weekend for sure!

message 88: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments I don't see this as being a super competitive challenge, so points aren't that big of a deal. I'd say spelling out Thailand is our best bet; it has the exact number of letters so everyone can participate and contribute to the actual task.

message 89: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Everyone seems to be OK with spelling THAILAND...so let's do it!

There's a slightly bigger range of books if you open up to include "southeast asia" - have a look to see if anything interests you.

Popular Southeast Asia

I'll copy and paste over a spreadsheet, the same as last time.

Then plan your read and add it to the spreadsheet so we can see what's been taken!

According to the rules, you can start a book before we have finished this stop, so all good!

message 90: by Elise (new)

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) Caroline - can you let me know how you liked The Brothers Karamazov - it's on my TBR!

message 91: by Cathy (new)

The Art of Sinning (Sinful Suitors, #1) by Sabrina Jeffries
Completed 2/20/16
4 stars

message 92: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments I think I'll take the H in Thailand with
Paradise of the Blind by Dương Thu Hương
It's set in Vietnam, which is southeast Asia, at least.

message 93: by Lu (new)

Lu (beltari) I was really looking forward to recommend you my favourite Argentinian authors, it'd be a shame if we took the detour in El Calafate u_u

message 94: by Carol (new)

No Longer a Gentleman (Lost Lords, #4) by Mary Jo Putney

Caroline Kelemen | 252 comments Elise wrote: "Caroline - can you let me know how you liked The Brothers Karamazov - it's on my TBR!"

I really liked it! I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who really values plot in their novels, but there were a lot of really interesting and beautifully written philosophy/theology discussions. I only gave it three stars though, because I take off a star for taking 776 pages to say what could easily be said in 300-400!
How was [book:The Kitchen Boy: A Novel of the Last Tsar|95141? I'm pretty sure I added that one after going through the rory gilmore list, but I still don't know what it's about!

message 97: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Kelemen | 252 comments Hey, so I finished The Brothers Karamazov (2/28/16 ⭐⭐⭐) but Google docs won't let me update the sheet without downloading a bunch of apps that are too big for my phone. If someone could update it for me I'd appreciate it!

message 98: by Roseena (new)

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) I don't know about any rules about rereading books but I just restarted divergent if it counts I'll use it for D

I've got a few Dostoevsky on my TBR...but I'm a little nervous - Russian classic literature is daunting! Have you read any of his others or was this the first one?

The Kitchen Boy: A Novel of the Last Tsar wasn't amazing, but it was a pretty well researched retelling of the last few weeks of life for the Romanovs. There was a good twist at the end, so if you are interested in modern Russian history, give it a go!
