Ruth Every month the journal Rattle posts a painting or photograph. People enter the. Contest by writing a poem inspired by it. This month it was my painting, Chronicle. It's an old one. About 48 by 72 oil on linen. Two prizes are given, one chosen by the editor and one chosen by me. There were 148 entries. My choice has just been posted. It sure was fun to see what everyone wrote. My choice was just posted. http://www.rattle.com/it-wont-make-th...

Heather | 8548 comments That is fun, Ruth, alluding to the folder in which you posted this. I am so happy for you!

I also like the last line of her poem,
"the way all our shadows fall the same direction

I hadn't really thought about what was significant about that initially, but when you brought attention to it, it is really neat. Brings closure to the whole poem, but also brings the whole meaning together.
Thank you for sharing that!

Ruth Here's the second phase of Rattle's Ekphrastic Contest featuring my painting as a prompt, one winner chosen by me, one by Rattle's Editor, Tim Green. This is Tim's choice. It was such a thrill for me to be part of this. A big thank you to Tim and all the poets who participated.

Tom Such different tones between the two poems -- clear evidence of a rich, complex, even mystical painting to inspire such varied responses. Congrats, Ruth!
