I was surprised by the post office as well. How clever!
I was really surprised that they picked up live animals along the way. I just wasn't expecting hogs and tortoises to be roaming the ship!

Also, regarding the tortoises, I was shocked that they could live for more than a year without any food or water!
Yes i agree Tarheelgirl, about the hogs and the tortoises roaming around. But how the poor things must have suffered having no food or water.The post office was surprise also, great way to get news to the sailors though.
Not so surprised by the difference in character from land to sea. I see it as they had a particular role to play once out at sea.
