Midweek discussion (Please no spoilers if you’ve read ahead)

Were you surprised by the change in the men’s attitudes from pious on land to tyrants at sea?

The “post office” on Charles Island was one thing that surprised me.
What surprised you the most in this part of the read?

Lets talk about the enormousness of the journey of the Essex. Even by todays standards it’s quite a feat

I was surprised by the post office as well. How clever!

I was really surprised that they picked up live animals along the way. I just wasn't expecting hogs and tortoises to be roaming the ship!

Also, regarding the tortoises, I was shocked that they could live for more than a year without any food or water!

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Yes i agree Tarheelgirl, about the hogs and the tortoises roaming around. But how the poor things must have suffered having no food or water.

The post office was surprise also, great way to get news to the sailors though.

Not so surprised by the difference in character from land to sea. I see it as they had a particular role to play once out at sea.

Michael | 1 comments Hello guys! I've heard a lot about this book, but still didn't have enough time to read it. However, there are the moment I can get a position of paper writer the mandatory condition of which is writing review or essay about this book. How do think, is it worth to take this book? Thanks in advance.
