The Catcher in the Rye
question
Advice and feedback needed

(Forget about Catcher -- I just put that in there because nothing other than an already published book title seemed acceptable.)
I just completed a memoir and I'm not sure what to do with it. I could also use some editorial feedback -- e.g., is this the sort of thing anyone other than a friend or relative would want to read?
I could also use some assistance in navigating this website. Is there someplace here I can post an unpublished, not yet released manuscript?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Victor

Submit it to a few markets. Refer to Writers' Market for guidelines of publishers that publish memoirs, like St. Martin's Press.
Research existing memoirs that may be similar to yours in content by browsing shelves at the library and bookstores. Note the agents and publishers and contact them. Talk with booksellers.

What you're looking for is called a 'manuscript evaluation,' and many editors offer this as a service. They will usually read the book, tell you what's working and what isn't, offer insight on marketability, and guide you through the next steps in publishing.
I recommend the EFA (the-efa.org) as a place to find editors, but you can do your own search as well.
As an alternative, join a well-respected writing group, and take the feedback you get seriously. Essentially all writing groups will do critiques; the catch is you want feedback from educated readers who are familiar with the tone and structure of your genre. So make sure it's a good group!
Good luck to you with your book!
