Listening to some Leon Russell. "Tight Rope" is my favorite

I watched "La fanciulla del West" by Puccini (trans: The Girl of the Golden West), an opera, on the Met site. I was surprised by how much I liked it. I don't typically like westerns (although sometimes I will see a really good one).

SPOILER

Also, unusually for opera it had a happy ending and no one died.

There was about to be some frontier justice - a bandit was going to be hanged - but his love comes out at the last minute and asks for his life to be spared, and since she had been so kind (as a tavern owner) to all the men about to hang the guy, they gave in.

The town sheriff had been in love with her but she had spurned him. He still wanted to hang the guy but everyone persuaded him to let it go.
