Lee | 357 comments We have had a large book case in the hall for years and as with a lot
of things , sadly it has fallen apart with age. So time for a sort out
get rid of all unwanted books, all to the charity shops and favourites
kept. Then buy new book case.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling

Back in 2005 I lost a much loved Harry Potter book.
It was a large print edition I ordered from Borders. It was a hefty book
all 1,520 pages of it.Within a year after carting this book round
everywhere, it literally fell apart. I was gutted I know I
could have bought another copy. But it would never have been
the one I started out with, queued up for on the release night, sat in
Starbucks with that night so excited , abandoned everything
for until I had finished it. sat there bleary eyed ,
thinking oh wow once I`d finished it I could not
abandon it and leave it in this sorry state.

So I went to an established book restorers and asked them if they could
fix it I know they were surprised to see a modern book in front of them amongst
all the vinatage books they usually work on. But they did an amazing job took
it apart ,rebound and restored it right through, worked on each page, had to replace
a few of them .Then they split it into two hardback volumes to make it easier to manage.

A year after the restoration, II find I am missing one of the books,
searched high and low, convinced I had lost it when on holiday.
Never thought I would ever see my missing book again.

So stepping forward nearly ten years later look what I found behind the old book case
when we moved it out

it had been there all that time and despite all the dust on it, it is still in perfect condition and they
look perfect together once again. I am so pleased.

I know its only a book, but for me its like welcoming back an old friend
and they look so right together

When this book came out it cost £10 ($17 USD) a book in Borders
(same price everywhere).
However, my large print version was £31 ($52.70 USD). I had to pay
in advance of the release. Bothered that they would be left with an
unwanted book. Well they need not have worried because when they
got my book from under the counter all the kids queueing were saying,
"oh, mummy I want a giant book like that lady is buying !"

They were not impressed at the restorers. Pointed out to me that this
book could never have lasted very long, due to its poor quality,
inapropriate binding for a book this size. I did wonder how many of
this edition were returned by other readers.

I know time flies, but it was 2003 that this book was released, 13 years ago this year.
