Talk about starting off with a lot of action! So now we've learned that Nighthawk is emulating Epic powers through cell cultures. Interesting! So the powers were caused by a genetic mutation of some kind. They haven't discussed so far in this series if any Epics had babies together have they? Wonder if they would automatically produce another Epic. The twin part was interesting, too. So I'm guessing that Epic powers can't really duplicate because then they would just kill each other off.
I'm also really curious about Meghan's power to tap into other dimensions. I have a feeling that will play a big role how the book will end. Did Calamity come from this other dimension? It would be so awesome if somehow Calamity was connected to the Cosmere somehow!
Yeah I don't think any epic children have been mentioned - that's an interesting thought. I'm interested to see where this all goes. It would be way cool if it connected to the Cosmere, but wow , I can't see how it'd fit. I'm no Cosmere expert though!
I believe that Sanderson has explicitly said that any books which reference real-world places (Reckoners, Evil Librarians, Rithmatist, off the top of my head) are not in the Cosmere, but it's a cool thought!

Like if Calamity was somehow connected to the other godlike beings on the other planets in the Cosmere.
What is it that keeps the Epics from just walking in and blasting Knighthawk and his operation though? I still don't see why they either leave him alone or else if they want his technical expertise, make him work for a particular Epic. That part has never really made sense to me.
I've been so slow reading this because I keep needing to read other things to cleanse the metaphors. I still haven't been able to face going back after the 3 line "I am a steam-powered toenail trimmer." thing. My kindle said lots of people underlined that too - does that mean they LIKE those? They just take me out of the story every time. I'm kind of considering just returning the book.I want to know what happens, but I guess I'm just grouchy. Maybe I'll make it a chocolate eating game!
I'm finding it a slow book even apart from the weird language use, Suzanne. Scott asked me around halfway how I liked it and at that point I still felt like hardly anything had happened. I'm now around 75% and it's picked up a bit, but this is definitely no more than a 3 star read for me. Like you, I'm only reading at this point to find out what happens at the end.
I've finished this already, and let me say that the metaphors don't get any better. Suzanne, if you played the chocolate game, be ready to gain about 10 pounds before the book is finished! David is probably the single most annoying YA character I have ever read. I think you'll find a LOT of things in this book that don't make any sense.
Justine, I'm going to be very curious to hear your thoughts about the ending. There's going to be a lot to talk about!
I liked the action scenes to start the book but don't really think David's tricks would have worked against the drones. I guess they didn't really as it was more of a setup by Nighthawk.I'm surprised he didn't cut back on the metaphor usage considering most people seemed to hate them in the last book.
Ha ha Christina we'll see:) I keep hearing about a big finish so that's what I'm waiting for!
Bill, I was wondering about that too, why he didn't slightly change David's character a bit and ease up on the metaphor and bad jokes. He did a bit I guess but not much. I think that he could have tempered David's character slightly and it would have been believeable given the circumstances.
I was kind of hoping that David would at least start to nail some metaphors in this book, if only to show character growth. I found it amusing in Steelheart, a little grating in Firefight, and skip worthy in this one. It could have even been a humorous moment for them, as everyone actually understood one of his metaphors...
My current chapter started with "I tried to think of a metaphor for this...but I couldn't." And...I mentally cheered :)

I mostly got this one to see how it ends, and based on everyone's rating, I'm not too optimistic..
