Bingo. A reader can reach her own conclusion about #3, but 1, 2, and 4 required explanation if Burke intended us to accept the outcome she wrote and I found them nowhere.
I agree. Buckley seems like she'd be resourceful. I can see #2 being reasonably accomplishable for a 16 year-old (savings, Charlotte...) But acquiring a gun? And what about the shooting of 3 people in cold blood. I enjoyed this book, but the ending didn't make much sense.
Thank you!! She must have borrowed his Dad's gun (which would have tested positive in further ballistics).
I agree on the money. That was a bit more than even a rich child could put together. (I also wonder if the call girl in question was the only one she hired. It sounds like a risky enough plan that you'd have to try a couple (not all in bridesmaid dresses with champers, naturally) to get Dad's attention.
The fourth question is absolutely the biggest one for me. How could she have set that up?
I have big issues with setting up her Dad. She just lost her mom. Who did she think would take care of her?
Finally, our attorney was 43 in the book. (I thought that was interesting because I'm 43 and has plenty of ex-boyfriend issues.) How are we supposed to believe that she has her first child with her husband at 45 or 46? It didn't sound like she was the wealthiest person ever (doing fine, but not insanely wealthy). She marries a DA, who also won't be insanely wealthy. I think the idea of a 45 year old woman (who was probably on birth control for years) naturally conceiving and carrying to term is pretty tough for me to comprehend.
glad to find this post....i knew a twist was coming and that it was likely Buckley or Charlotte but it felt like a lot of time invested to then get such a superficial wrap up. The daughter must be some kind of cold hearted person to see Dad go to prison for life and sail on to Brown. Brrrr. And the logistics the other posters raised...seems like it was worth another chapter to go back in time and reveal more about how Buckley became such a psycho and pulled it off.
I wondered why Olivia waited until after Jack's 'confession' to research who else might have set everything up. That smacks of whatever the legal equivalent of medical malpractice is.The thing with the DA suddenly being her husband and them having a child was totally 'out of the blue' and unbelievable because Burke never put any foundation for it in the book.
And I flat out didn't find Olivia likeable at all.

I must have missed the answers to these questions while reading or am I meant to assume?
1. How did she get the gun?
2. How did she get the money to pay the prostitute?
3. Was she trying to set her father up?
4. How did she get Tracy to the football field?
