SOLVED. Time traveling boy [s]

Boy goes back in time in his town, falls in love with a girl. Ends up fighting in a war back in time, loses an eye. Crosses paths with himself once but can't see his future or past self. Him and girl see their future selves at one point he sees an old woman and she sees an old man.

Young adult I believe I read it 12-15yrs ago but not sure when it was written. The war the boy ended up fighting in was Vietnam
