Exactly the way it did. I feel like any other type of ending has already been done to death, and this ending was surprising and fitted well.
I would have liked this book to end before it was written. Ugh.

I totally agree! Rarely have a read a book and been so annoyed and disgusted with it as I finished.

Omigosh I thought I was the only one that hated this one. Sharp Objects was so much better.
Amy would have outed herself.
Throughout the book she had a pathological need to be acknowledged as brilliant and amazing, she was upset her husband didn't see it, and yet somehow she was content with only her notoriously unappreciative husband knowing about her brilliant setup?
I don't think so.
Her character would have wanted more recognition than that, so in my version she would have outed herself - whether on purpose or subconsciously.

Nick would kill Amy and kill himself. Amy would never kill herself. But nick could crack. Alternately, Margo kills Amy, nick won't kill Margo, kill himself.
Maybe Nicks sister would kill Amy. We all know that Nicks sister really hates Amy, and Amy framed her as well as Nick. I feel like Nicks sister killing Amy and then Nick helping her cover it up would make for a cool ending. Kind of a twisted surprise ending, like whoa, did that just happen?!?
i guess i wanted Amy to make a mistake in her homicide and get caught and put in jail life in prison and then Nick could move on and not have to worry about being framed by Amy again, but agree that the way the author did it was very clever and unique
Great read. The ending was good. I can't imagine another one but it does open the door for a Gone a girl II.
While I like the author's bold move of not tying up the ending better, I would have liked to see Nick endure Amy's pregnancy before finding some way of out-manipulating her and being left with the child
I like the way it ended. We don't need to be spoon-fed an ending. Ambiguity is perfectly fine.
I wanted Amy to get caught! Or better, have Nick kill her, and he end up in prison for her death. I couldn't stand either of these selfish people.
