Freddy | 4 comments Hi, everyone, I'm Freddy. I'm a translator and literary agent. I live in Shanghai, China. Glad to join this group.

My task is to find good books which could be promoted and sold in Mainland China. By "good books", I mean interesting, original, innovative novels (Sci-Fi, YA, fantasy, etc). I hope you guys could recommend some to me, and that will be very appreciated. It doestn't have to be famous ones, just interesting and innovative (since so many books these days are similar in plots....).

Alice-Elizabeth (Prolific Reader Alice) (marriedtobooks44) | 30 comments Eldon wrote: "Again just curious Alice but exactly how many books does it take to get rated?"

For best reviewers, it depends on the number of users that hit the like button on your reviews. It varies for each country :)

message 222: by Eldon (new)

Marie Silk | 1025 comments Welcome Freddy!! :)

Hi again, Alice!! I've enjoyed following your reviews!

I once saw a profile on goodreads where the member had written 12 reviews total but was rated one of the top reviewers. I was perplexed until I realized it went by country, and I believe she was from Argentina. The top rated U.S. and UK reviewers have to read and review quite a bit more in order to get a title. :)

Quantum (quantumkatana) Graeme wrote: "Does a Dystopia set in 2030 qualify as science fiction? "

i would think so--as long as it's not based on a supernatural zombie apocalypse, which, in that case, it'd be straight-up horror. but if it's a virus-based zombie apocalypse, then it would have a scientific basis.

time period doesn't matter so much--there are alternate histories that are considered to be sci-fi; for example, Dick's The Man in the High Castle.

nothing like a good 'ol sci-fi zombie book to get you thru, right?

oh, bummer, i just saw that neither sci-fi nor horror is on your list of preferred reads.

(waddaya complaining about? romance is the most popular genre! it's us sci-fi writers who need more love.

my inner zombie feels so unloved.)

but hey, some zombies do get love!

there was that one zombie romance that i read and actually liked: Eat, Brains, Love. but then there was that other one that i just couldn't get into and DNF'd it. shoot, i can't remember the name--i even search on amazon--oh wait, i got it on a web search: Warm Bodies.

i saw the trailer (i think) for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. i thought that looked promising: it had good action and the female MC was pretty tough--i liked that.
