Thanks. And you are probably right about that, especially from the commercial standpoint, however I like them as they are :) They might look self-made and the forth one - truly is, but we (with a co-author of the first book) actually paid some decent amounts to a graphic designer to express our message.

C.A. Hiddleston | 58 comments Good to know more about your background, Eric, having seen your comments on the NATO/Ukraine/Russia group. I worked as a prosecutor and defense attorney for many years before becoming an author full time. My orientation is to compare international politics to battles in the courtroom.

message 1656: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Clark, glad to formally welcome you here on the introduction thread! Your vast experience should really get along well with your interest in international politics, as after a brief period of peaceful renaissance the world seems to be heading into a new confrontational era.

Julian (julianreads) | 1 comments Hi everybody, I'm Julian. I grew up in Germany and study business management in the UK, so I was quite excited about finding this group here. Looking forward to interesting discussions!

I mostly read Crime (I love John Grisham and am still looking for a banking equivalent to his legal characters ;)) and Sci-Fi.

I also write, mainly short stories.

Lastly, combining my trade and my passion, I co-founded a book-tech startup a few months ago. It's called snatch and aims to make the reading and writing experience more interactive and easily accessible. We're currently testing everything and slowly introduce it to the public. So if anyone is interested, feel free to check it out on https://snatch.sh
If you have any thoughts or feedback, let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Lastly, given it's the 23rd of December, Merry Christmas to everyone!

message 1672: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Guten tag, Julian & welcome!

message 1673: by Richard (new)

Richard (richoman25) Hi everyone, I'm Richard from Australia.

I work as a public servant, but my passion is personal growth, leadership & asset development, which I'm learning more of in a private mentoring program that I'm a part of.

So I consider myself to be an avid & voracious reader of non-fiction books & podcasts, in order to learn things to better serve myself & those in my team.

Alongside that, I also aspire to be a polyglot. I'm currently learning Spanish, German & Vietnamese. And I definitely want to have more languages in my arsenal in the future as well. My main reasons for wanting to be a polyglot is for personal growth & also to be able to better connect with more people.

Oh, btw, happy & merry all the things. And just, be kind to yourselves.

message 1674: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Richard & welcome!

Like your aspiration for constant expansion of horizons.
Hope all your goals will be achieved. If google translate fails one day, polyglots will save the world 🌎😉

Also hope you’ll enjoy and contribute to the discussions

First-time author of the poetry book: Martinis, Sex, & Poems. I've been a professional chef for over 20 years, raised 3 kids, and finally took the courage to publish my poetry book. Getting here took a lot of vulnerability, but I hope to inspire my readers and stir their fire within!

Thank you for allowing me the space to introduce myself.

message 1685: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Emde | 3 comments Hi, I'm Jeff Emde, a first time author. I was in the CIA for 26 years and only started writing when I retired. I have two books with my co-author, ex-SEAL Don Mann - Black Sun Rising: Book One: Praetorian Series and History's Assassins: Motives for Murder - that were published earlier this year. I am currently working on a spy novel. It started when I asked a contact how long he had been working with the CIA. He said, "Since I was in high school." I thought he was joking but he wasn't! He had kept every scrap of paper, every letter he received from Moscow and every piece of propaganda sent to him and gave it to me. That was the basis for one half of the book. The other half centers on real life Russian Col. Oleg Penkovsky, the Spy Who Saved The World. I blended both stories into one. Almost all of the events depicted actually happened and the majority of the characters are based on real people. I can't wait to finish editing it.

message 1686: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Jeff and welcome!

Congrats on publication with Don and best of luck with your spy novel. Sounds promising. This world needs saving too 😎
While 💵 🔥 (Bill Burns) still has some time to serve and little time to contribute to our discussions, feel free to weigh in on any subject at hand. Just don’t tell us secrets 🤫
Hope you’ll enjoy and participate thus undoubtedly attracting more attention to your literary work - not a small thing allowing for how many fine tomes collect dust on endless Amazon’s bookshelves

message 1687: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Emde | 3 comments Thanks Nik. Dust gathering is a growth industry I'm afraid. I write for fun. If someone reads it and likes it, all the better. Sometimes its about the journey, not the destination. I would like to upload a sample chapter or something so people can see if they'd be interested before dropping $20 but I don't know how or where. Any ideas?

message 1688: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Fun is a realistically achievable objective 👍 Goodreads limits post’s length, but it’s still long enough for an extract. You can use an announcement section for this purpose

message 1689: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Emde | 3 comments Thanks!

message 1690: by Muad'Dib (new)

Muad'Dib | 1 comments New to the group. But have to ask is that a Ukrainian flag on top? And if so, don't you think a group like this should be politically neutral?

message 1691: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Muad’Dib and welcome!

Well done on recognizing the Ukrainian flag. It’s not about politics, it’s about the raging war. I can’t be neutral when a country close to me is under a brutal attack, people are killed en masse, more injured , dam blown up, so much is being demolished. Don’t understand how anyone can.
Indifference sometimes enables atrocities to happen.
