e! Hi everyone,

My name is Eva. I'm a high schooler from the states interested in all things philosophy, history, and politics. I jump around nonfiction, thrillers, young-adult, and memoirs a lot.

On my free time, I like to do a bit of creative writing and dip a foot in photography and videography.

I love discussing all sorts of books with fellow book enthusiasts! My box is always open if you want to befriend me. I don't bite.

message 1505: by Graeme (last edited Apr 07, 2021 09:04PM) (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Eva, welcome to the group. Anyone with broad interests will find something of interest here.

On a side note you appear to be our 3000th member... (Sadly no door prize is evident...)

message 1506: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Eva & welcome!

Much of your interests coincide with those of the group, therefore I hope you’ll find lots of threads helpful.
Make sure to dry the foot quickly after dipping lest you get a cold, but otherwise - good luck with photo- and video- :)
Hope you’ll enjoy and contribute

P.S. if anyone gets a mail offering a valuable prize for being any round number client/member, please apply a healthy suspicion for it might be a phishing attempt

Barbara | 510 comments Barbara from NJ on the border of Philly.
I read all the time. When I heard about the 50 book a year challenge, I was "Wait - we can only read 50 books in the year?"
Love classics, mystery, biography, unusual episodes in history, short stories. Not into a lot of the stuff that usually makes the book club lists.

message 1508: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Barbara & welcome!

Hope the things are calmer on your border than on the one with Mexico :)
Always great to have a prolific reader joining our ranks.
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Margitte | 11 comments Thanks so much for the invite, Nik! I know too little to really contribute, but love reading about economics, conspiracy theories, non-fictional history and anything else that fuels a curiosity into world economics. I am known for exploring both sides of a pancake and ask uncomfortable questions. I promise to behave, though :-)

Looking forward to learn from you all.

Hi Margitte & welcome!

I don't buy it that you know too little - you are a well-read individual and probably just being modest :)
Please, feel free to ask those questions - sometimes that's what spurs discussions the most.
Hope you'll enjoy, learn and contribute

Margitte | 11 comments Nik, I've only partially read one thread,
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

And I already feel so at home. Since joining GR, it is the first time that I am really excited about joining a group. Instead of reading books, I suspect that I'm going to spend more time following the discussions in this group. So thank you once again for the invitation. What an excellent idea!

Edward Hochsmann (emhochsmann) | 7 comments Hello, Everyone!

Thanks to Nik for the invitation. I am a new indie author who published my first book about nine months ago. I am on the verge of publishing the second book in the series and then moving on to the third, with a break to try out Kindle Vella.
I was amazed at how much I enjoyed writing the novels and novelette. I am an Operations Research Analyst by trade and always lumped creative writing among the other ordeals of high school. Now, I'm hoping to "win the lottery" with a book and make writing my day job.

Byron Tully (bgt3) Bonjour,
I'm Byron Tully, author of The Old Money Book, as well as a few other Old Money titles.
I'm currently living in Paris. Thankfully, the cafes have just reopened and the city is coming back to life.
The group's discussions of economics, social issues, and writing seem lively and informative. My interests are broad but often revolve around the upper class and their responsibilities to the general public.
I hope to enjoy and contribute as I can.
Be safe, everyone.
Cordialement,
Byron

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Bonjour Byron & welcome!

Sounds like you should know a thing or two or more about money :) We’ll be looking forward to your input on the threads you’ll choose to contribute to.
Congrats on reopening of Paris. Well timed for the summer.
Hope you’ll enjoy and share from your knowledge

message 1530: by Emma (new)

Emma Eriksson Hello my name is Emma. I am 22 years old from Sweden. I joined this group hoping to find some international friends around the same age as me (20-25). Books are a big part of my interests that also include writing my own, currently working on a zombie novel. I like movies and tv shows, Walking Dead being one of my favourite. Another big interest I have is languages and different countries and cultures which is also one of the reasons I’m looking for international friends. I’m currently trying to learn Bulgarian so it would be a dream if any Bulgarians in here would want to chat privately. But I’m open for any new contacts from any countries as I would gladly learn those languages and cultures as well. Really hoping to find some good friends here and bond over mutual interests :)

/ Emma

message 1531: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Emma & welcome!

I'm a few years out of the age range you mention, but nevertheless glad to greet you here. We have a few members from Bulgaria and some English speaking expats living there, so I hope anyone will reach out.
Heard your prime minister lost a no confidence move just recently - the first ever or in a long while :)
Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy, fulfil your aspirations and contribute to the discussions.

Colin Doyle | 1 comments Hello all

My road to right here started when I picked up my first Tintin book aged seven. I’ve scarcely been without a book since. I read everything – fiction, non-fiction, autobiographies lying somewhere in between… But my real passion is crime fiction. I’ve always loved completely immersing in gripping, credibly-told stories.

And now I’m a story teller too. I’ve just published my first crime fiction book. I’ve had a long career in writing, albeit in a different genre. Business proposals mostly. Similar requirement for crisp, compelling prose, but featuring somewhat less murder.

I’m here to interact with other writers, readers, reviewers and most of all, to discover all the captivating stories out there.

Great to be here. Thanks to Nik for the invite.

Colin

Less murder in business proposals?! C'mon, now :)

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute to the discussions

Hey Nik, thanks for the invite, glad to be "aboard" - for the sailing the seven seas part. I'm a first novelist - just got my debut novel up here on GoodReads and KU - so feeling a little like I'm on the sea with no sail and oar. But it's going to be a ride I'm sure. And I'm also a screenwriter /director, mostly in television and doc-series. A boater, a dad, a grandpa, and more grey hair than I would've thought.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Cameron and welcome!

Yeah, I know the feeling. Just put on the life jacket and hold tight in times of turbulence. We drink rum/vodka/whisky/etc on weekends. Some smoke marihuana in territorial waters, where it was legalized. If you see pirates, use the cannon followed by pressing an ejector button to catapult beyond the atmosphere :)

Congrats on the debut! Feel free to barge in on any discussion or set up your own.
BTW, you might already have an imposter, as I see 2 Camerons joining simultaneously :)

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute. Drowning is not allowed

message 1543: by Dollie (new)

Dollie Hello, my name is Dollie. The only writing I do are my reviews, although I would like to know more about writing, the world and, of course, wealth. I live in the northeast US and am recently retired, so I finally have all the time I want to read. I'm married (40+ years) to a wonderful man who still makes me laugh everyday, and am a huge horror/scifi/fantasy fan who loves hanging on the deck with my little Min Pin, watching the birds or snuggled on the couch, giving her a loving belly rub while reading. Thank you for the invitation, Nik, and I hope I can contribute to the discussions.

message 1548: by Tawanda (new)

Tawanda | 1 comments Hi all.

First off I'm not here by invite and I hope that's OK.
My name is Tawanda and I'm a 32 year-old living right on the fringes of Harare, in Zimbabwe. I've had a few short stories published and countless more rejected. Have also done quite a bit of haphazard, but extensive, reading over the years.
My tastes in movies, music, books etc are all over the place so I'm hoping to find a couple of forums to participate in.
All in all I'm here to be exposed to different voices and make new friendships, if possible. Hopefully also contribute towards a few topics along the way.

Cheers,

message 1549: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Tawanda & welcome!

You don’t have to be invited, as we are open to everyone, who’s willing to tolerate our company and adhere to minimal rules, aimed at maintenance of a friendly environment, which appear at group’s entrance page 😎
It would be cool to hear how things are in Africa and Zimbabwe particularly and your input on running threads.

Hope you’ll enjoy and contribute to the discussions
