Paul F. My first novel, "Against the Wild Green Range" is about a 22-year-old young woman who inherits a cattle ranch in 1873 Wyoming Territory. It received a 5-star review from Readers' Favorite Reviews. Sioux Indians, rustlers, and a banker who won't take no for an answer keep the action moving.

Congrats on the novel and great to hear about it. Maybe you’ll want to add some info about yourself too? :)

Hope you’ll enjoy and contribute your input to the discussions

Paul F. I am 67 years old and a retired news reporter and businessman. I have a Master's of Business Administration degree. Originally from Michigan, I have lived long stretches in California and New Jersey, and shorter stretches elsewhere. I have lived for the past 11 years in Wyoming, which is the setting for several of my novels. I have four Westerns and two historical fiction novels about the conflict between the Roman Empire and barbarians wishing to remain free of Roman control and the conflict between the Roman Empire and early Christianity.

message 1354: by Paul (new)

Paul F. Maybe I should add that I do book reviews as well as doing quite a bit of novel-reading on my own over the course of the year. I keep seeing the same mistakes over and over again, and as both a reader and a reviewer, seeing these kind of elementary mistakes drives me nuts. I have a blog on my author page on Goodreads that lists several of these common mistakes that authors make and that bothers readers no end. Paul F. Murray

Paul F. I like movies IN movie theaters. I cannot afford to pay fees for services such as Netflix, etc. Besides, my living room does not have the same ambience as a movie theater. Paul F. Murray

Jesse James (jessejamesbond) | 4 comments Hello everyone! My name is Jesse James Bond, and one day soon, my debut novel, Samaritans, will be published.

I've been working on it for many months, in between jumping to other projects and short stories. The pressure of the past few months has put a fire under me. Given the situation of our time, which came at the tail end my senior year of high school, University became far less appealing than it had ever been, so I set out to make my own path. A cliché, I know.

I was going to be a scientist, but now I am pursuing my truest skill and passion as an author. My mind has opened to the appreciation of art and music intertwined with our technological lives. If I am allowed to speak a bit of exceptionalism on behalf of my peers, I believe that (amidst the already lively world of art and science we live in) the community of young people around me, my dear and talented friends here in my hometown are poised to become a generation of incredible creators and thinkers.

We are normal people. We do look at our phones a lot. We sit in coffee shops and tea houses and on our couches and chat idly at times. However, we are driven to discuss the deeper essences of the things around us. We go to work in the morning and philosophize when night falls. We imbue the lingering memories of our conversations into our creations. The number of my friends who have released solo music albums by the end of their 18th year of life no longer fits on one hand. The other night, I was blown away by the music of my friend and his literal band of brothers, their sound of soulful funk blasting from their honed instruments inside the cradle of their home. When I am looking for cover art to promote my short stories, I have an entire community of artists that are my friends to commission. We will be researchers, programmers, filmmakers, artists, and musicians, and perhaps even politicians.

I am entranced by the obligation I feel to capture this renaissance of thought in the next generation in my writing. Nothing would make me more proud of my contemporaries than for them to prove wrong the pessimistic outlook for their generation, for the to declare: No! We won't waste away on the screen, we won't consume thoughtlessly for life, we won't be cogs! The cogs are in our minds! They turn on the energy of love and good eats and produce powerful thoughts, new ways of living and thinking to propel ourselves holistically. Despite the endless of confusion, we will innovate ways to be good people while utilizing the technological innovations that threaten to abandon us to despotism and heartlessness. We will stoke the fires of respectful conversation that fuel healthy democracy and social welfare. There is a war going on for our minds, but we will not pick a side but our own.

These are the insomniac dreams I have at night that keep me up with insatiable motivation.

My reason for posting here is both selfish and selfless. Yes, I want to promote myself and my writing because I want to eat so I can keep cooking food for thought. However, I want to be a part of my community that brings together the artists and the audience into fruitful conversations.

I am pretentious, but I am self-aware and I am helplessly driven. My career is just beginning, but it begins with all the promise that I see in my friends' careers. I will gladly promote and invest in their projects. For now, however (because the line at the top of this box I am typing is says "some html is ok" and not lots of html), I will leave you all with a link to my short stories, as well as a request that you reply if you so please.

Many thanks for reading, and many more for thinking.

Hi Jesse & welcome!

A nice manifesto. Agree with you, there is no point in aiming low. Wish you all the success and let's see where your generation manages to get. Achieving even a half of it, would be nice. The reckoning should come at around 40+ :)
In the meantime - aspire, achieve, realize, reap the fruits, enjoy and contribute to the discussions here, of course

I'm interested in Art, Illustration and different types of writing from mysteries to non-fiction. I've just written two supernatural thrillers--one on Amazon, the other due out in December and I'm interested in how to promote the novels: Requiem For Thursday and Requiem For Noah.

AcademicEditor (ni_how) Hello all,

Thanks for the invitation to join. These days, I spend most of my time tutoring students in English literature and language, but my academic degrees are in Russian lit and I have done a fair amount of translation. I also edit journal articles, college essays, e-books, and websites. For the last year or so, just for fun (and free books), I've been reviewing books for NetGalley here on Goodreads.

Nice to meet you all!

Hi everyone,

I'm from GB and am delighted to join what looks like a fascinating group.

My job involves producing content and editing images for various gardening websites. I also write fiction and self-published both my first novella and novel earlier this year. One is a psychological thriller, the other dystopian, and both contain an element of black humour.

Look forward to getting to know you all.

Guy Morris (guymorris) | 49 comments Hello Nik, Thank you for the invitation to join the group. I am new to Good Reads, coming out of a self imposed exile following retirement where I learning how to write out thoughts longer than a power point bullet.
I've lead an adventurous and eventful life from homeless at 13 to Fortune 500 board rooms at 30, faced down Zetas cartel thugs threatening to kill me in Cancun, and had the FBI pay me a visit for 'guessing' the nature of a top-secret program and then producing a espionage webisode.
The past few years, I've reinvented myself into a writer along the lines of James Rollins, Steve Berry and my favorite Dan Brown. While I write fiction, I go to incredible lengths of research for a story premise based on truth, fact, science, history, archaeology. From that truth, I will do my best to take the reader on wild ride. What can say, my wife says it keeps me off the streets.

Victoria Liiv (victorialiiv) | 10 comments Hi,
I'm Victoria. I am a new author, still seems surreal I managed to actually finish one of my writing projects and turn it into a completed book, God knows I have many unfinished stories hanging around begging for attention too.

Outside of writing, which I dare to call marely a hobby, I do 3D and technical drawings for a standbuilding company. Being clearly in an entertainment industry, it has been extreamly calm during the virus outbreak time. I got my education in acrhitecture, which is another thing I love, besides writing and reading.

I live in The Netherlands. It is not a country I was born in, and I am still learning the language. That is also one of the reasons I am not working in an architecture company (it is rather dificult if you don't speak the language).

Hi YangUei & welcome!

Probably not a bad idea, although I believe many would prefer to keep the distance and remain in the comfortable shadow of the impersonal communication, while others might be a bit wary to disclose their cell phone #s. If you ask me, I'd personally throw a real party with drinks and mingling for www members. Just need to wait a bit until corona is over and Bezos agrees to sponsor the logistics :)

Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy and contribute to the discussions

YangUei Aw | 2 comments Hey Nik, a real party will be really nice, I look forward to that. ;)
For a virtual party, we don't really need to disclose the cell phone numbers. Just a browser or an app on the phone will do. It won't be as good as the real party, but I think will be better than reading the introduction. ;)

World, Writing, and Wealth has promo options but they are not easy to access. I do not have the money to just spend time chatting. I wish I did, but I don't. If this is not the appropriate thread for promoting my books, then my apologies. If you want to know something about me, then know that I am poor, and I am trying to promote my books so that I can make some money. I am in bad health, elderly, retired, and I do not have the health to go back to work.
