Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Gjoa (unfortunately I don't have this crossed o:)) & welcome!

Yeah, economics and current events! I'm sure you'll find people here sharing the same interests.

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Kevin Nik,

Thanks for invite. Briefly reviewed some of the posts, and looks like a good group.

I like to mix my reading between history, business, current affairs, sci-fi, humor, satire and fantasy.

So many great books out there and so little time.

K

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Kevin & welcome,

Yes, time is of limited nature, which inevitably causes us to prioritize certain things over the others and frequently not in the favor of leisure :)
Most discussions and debates coincide with the fields of your interest and pls feel free to share your thoughts or experiences on any threads.
Hope you'll contribute & enjoy

Jade Wright (bohobookworm) | 1 comments Hey everyone, just joined this group! I'm Jade Lee Wright, indie author, bookstagrammer, booktuber and bookish podcast host! I am looking forward to meeting fellow writers and hopefully connecting with like-minded people.

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Jade, welcome to the group. Looking forward to seeing you on the threads.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Jade & welcome!

Glad to have you here. Lots of fellow authors you can meet and maybe share some experience in harnessing Instagram & YouTube to lit biz/art, as I feel I'm not sufficiently modern missing out on these two-:)

Hope you'll enjoy & contribute!

Dan Hill | 2 comments Hello, my name is Dan Hill, author, pundit (for CNN, etc.) and speaker. Been focused on foreign affairs - the world - from the time my family moved to Italy when I was six, and have gotten to about 65 countries so far. As Deep Throat said during Watergate, "Follow the money." You've got to, in order to understand the world fully - even though money isn't everything. Eager to learn books that are incisive on what's really going on, in the spirit of "Dark Money" but on a global scale.

message 1158: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Dan and welcome,

Reading your page, you seem to specialize in an interesting (to me at least) field. Foreign affairs, contemporary events, biz, lit, money are all our resident themes and we'd be glad to hear your opinion and insight on running discussions or new ones that you are encouraged to set up.
Hope you'll enjoy, contribute and have an excellent year!

J.D. Cunegan (jdcunegan) | 62 comments I write under the pen name J.D. Cunegan, and my most notable work is a superhero/murder mystery series in which the main character is both a homicide cop and a costumed vigilante. Bounty is the first book in the series, and there are four installments so far (Blood Ties, Behind the Badge, and Behind the Mask the others). The fifth book, Betrayal, should be out around March, and book six, Bitter End, will be out by the end of the year. I also wrote a fantasy book, Notna, which readers are comparing to Indiana Jones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi J.D. & welcome back! Haven't heard from you for a while..

Best of luck with the series and standalone titles. Apart from general authors and readers, I suspect we have here quite a vibrant vampire loving/slaying community specifically ;)
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Nik! 2020 is definitely the year I get back into the swing of things. 2018 and 2019 were a creative struggle, but that's gonna change.

message 1162: by Catalina (new)

Catalina Hi! My name is Catalina, which it isn't, but it is my pen name. I am just coming to the end of drafting my first novel I ever considered publishing. It is sci-fi/speculative fiction with a romance and war plot. I aspire to great things in my writing career (though not my only career), no matter what it takes (best grand movie pep-talk voice)!

I love talking with other more experienced writers about the craft – and helping less experienced writers (younger friends) with their stories and homework – which is why I've joined. I also just like finding out and talking about how the world works on a grand scale!

message 1163: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Catalina, not Catalina & welcome! :)

Have an excellent launch of the firstling and many successes thereafter!
We are here to share and absorb experiences as well as for analyzing the world's delicate architecture.
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

message 1164: by Melisa (new)

Melisa Well, I'm Melisa. I was looking through the lists of groups and when I saw this one it piqued my interest.

I love writing, always have, along with reading. I hope to publish a book or two before I graduate high school (yes I'm young). Also, I love learning languages and am currently studying German and some Russian. There are about seven or eight languages I'd like to learn, but we'll see how that goes.

I also enjoy politics and debating and hope to become a politician. I like to discuss big ideas and that's why I joined this group.

message 1165: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Melisa & welcome!
You have ambitious aims and you already act for their realization. Hope you'll achieve most/all of them! And if you adopt an idea or two from debates in this group, we'll be glad to have contributed :)
Hope you'll enjoy and participate

Papaphilly | 5042 comments Hi,

I am not a writer. I am a reader. I am not a frustrated writer trying to get my first novel written and looking for help or thoughts. I am a reader. I am not a snarky writer trying to make others feel lousy because I feel lousy. I am a reader. I do not have the writer abilities. So why did I join the group. I like sharing ideas and thoughts. I tend to see myself as a different set of eyes. As I post, I will add my thoughts to provide insights that might not be prevalent because I am not part of the writiers club and I might just be a fresh idea because I am different, or not. I can only promise that I will be honest and will try to show decorum.

message 1167: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Papaphilly. Welcome to the group. Cheers Graeme

message 1168: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Papaphilly & welcome!

We kinda got your point of not being a writer :) , which is perfectly fine! And having over 1500 books read, you are quite a big reader. With number of writers growing and readers - supposedly shrinking, we might be talking about a literary overpopulation of a sort.
This group is open to anyone, who wants to express and hear opinions, debate his or her position.
Hope you'll enjoy and keep contributing

Hi. Happy to not be the only non-writer. It does give a different perspective. Haven't run into any snark no the part of writers in this group and everyone respects other's expression of thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

Wally Wood | 3 comments I am NOT the famous Mad Magazine cartoonist Wally Wood. For one thing, he died in 1981. I am a full-time freelance writer. I have independently published three novels: Getting Oriented: A Novel about Japan; The Girl in the Photo; and Death in a Family Business. I regularly review books for Bookpleasures.com. I have an MA in creative writing from City College in New York. For my own amusement and to build facility, I translate Japanese fiction.

Billie Turknett (billieturknett) | 1 comments I'm very new to writing. As a matter of fact I have messed around with writing a book in the past but they were awful. I am headed in the right direction this time with a well thought out plan and detailed character sheets. I know my story line and I'm excited to start pouring out chapters.
I'm very nervous and I am excited to learn as much as I can about self publishing.

message 1174: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Billie & welcome!

Best of luck with writing and accomplishing a book. If you enjoy the process and are satisfied with the result, then you can check whether it resonates with others.

Hope you'll derive something helpful from the discussions and contribute from your own

Doug | 3 comments By way of introduction; I just clicked on the invite. I'm sometimes impulsive that way. In terms of personal details; I've given up on razors for now. I reckon I can stick by the rules for this group, and in terms of rule 1, I promise not to talk about Fight Club. Oh wait, wrong group. In terms of rule 1 for THIS group, I do have a habit of jiggling on an outstretched leg if I get the opportunity. Given that this is online interaction here, I'm guessing it won't be a problem. At least I can say I'm friendly. Not sure if I'll be able to make a big contribution because I'm not on here very often, but I'll try to chip in when I can. Thanks for the invite Nik.

message 1176: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Doug & welcome!

Well clicked:) Don't worry about the rules: if you start cursing or speaking sex, I'll just delete it :) Otherwise, get rich and never get caught.

If not contribute, hope you'll enjoy
BTW, sometimes we go offline, and there I'm happy to offer beers and booze to friends in here

Jody Robinson (jody-robinson) | 3 comments Hey, I’m Jody. I’m a voracious audiobook consumer, fiction and non-fiction. Some of my favorites are Kristin Hannah, Brené Brown, and now Susan Cain. I particularly enjoy books read by the author. (I listen in the car in our lovely Chicago traffic.) I used to read “real” books, but when I have extra time, I usually focus on writing, usually late at night (thank goodness for dimly lighted screens). I like to write poetry and short stories, and recently published a book about the messages we tell ourselves about money and finances, and how that plays out in the quality of our lives. I wrote it mainly so my son has a bit of me with him forever, but my big dream is that the book will open real, authentic conversations in book clubs, mastermind groups, and small group discussions about self-help, mindset, work, and purpose in life. If anyone wants to drum up discussion on self-publishing, or doing audiobooks, let me know! I’ve had some great mentors, but would love to soak up information from anyone who has been around the blocks a couple times!!

Howard (hbolling) | 1 comments Thanks for the invitation, Nik!

Am I a writer? Sure! Am I a voracious reader? You betcha! Then again, they're only labels. If you hung a sticky note on me for every job I've ever done, or function I've ever performed, I'd look like a strange bird with Post-It feathers...

The task I set for myself is to read 120 books every year. Last year, I was successful. This year, I'm ahead of the game now, and hope to stay that way. Starting this year, I decided I owe it to myself and anybody else that may care to write a few words about any book that I read that's either above or below average.

Before you get the idea that I spend all of my time with my nose stuck in a book or screen, or my ears full of audiobooks, I should mention that I listen to a couple dozen podcasts regularly (thank the odd gods for 2X!), work full time, take care of a farm, and have gone back to college half time, because I have my sights set on spending some time as an adjunct professor in twelve or fifteen years,

I have strong opinions, loosely held, which is to say that I'm open to persuasion with facts. I can't take anything too seriously, though, because none of us get out of here alive.

My name is John Bradford, and I currently teach Honors American Literature and Advanced Placement Literature at a high school in Georgia. Reading is one of my passions, and sharing that passion is one of my loves (hence the profession). I am currently working on a book which I am very excited about. I love talking about literature. Once upon a time I was a member of a book club, but that has since dissolved and I really miss it. I am looking forward to participating in this group.

message 1188: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi John & welcome!

Not everyone is lucky to convert passion into profession, so very well done.
Hope we can fill the gap of the dissolved book club for you and looking forward to hear your opinions on subjects at hand or new ones, if you elect to offer them for discussion by opening appropriate threads.
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

I am a writer. Recently I published the book "The Mindful Thrift: How to Appreciate What We Have and Save What We Do Not Notice." Have a good day!

Tani (tanik) | 25 comments Hi everyone! I'm Taniksha but feel free to call me Tani. I'm a college student. I love reading, dancing and travelling.

So how did I end up here? I was stalking my friend Lena's (hey Lena!) bookish updates and saw her comment on Coronavirus thread. I found it interesting but what caught my attention was the tone of the discussion. It's civil but sincere. Aaand here I am.

Hope everyone is staying safe, healthy and calm. Tougher times needs tougher patience and I think everyone is trying their best to support each other.

Hygenic wishes to everyone.

Lol! I think I'll do fine without cursing. For someone who curses during rant reviews, I'm pretty much polite in real life. I have an 11 year old sister (we have age gap of nine years) so "no cursing" rule is obligatory at my home. I can keep up with that here.

I'll try my best to be active but sometimes due to college projects, I may not able to participate. If that's okay, there won't be problems from my side at all.

Thanks for everyone's welcome. Happy Reading!
