Iryna Andriyevska (iryna_andriyevska) | 4 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Iryna. I am a young writer from Ukraine. I've published my first book almost a year ago. It is my biggest passion in life. I started to write as soon as I learn how to write. Hundreds of poems and short stories had been written since my childhood. All those years I was preparing my soul for something really huge - my first romance. Finally, I did it. I put all the feelings and thought into "Enslaved by illusions".

Now I really want it to be read. I wish the world will hear and appreciate my biggest work.
I know, the translation is poor. I will certainly improve it. But if it won't cause much troubles for you, please spread this book in your socials. Make a good deed and it will be rewarded. If you'll ever need my help - feel free to reach me at irynkaa88billy@ukr.net.

Here is the link to my book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXF5BJL

Also, I won "Write On Competition 2017" in Ukraine and you may read my essay here:
https://writeoncompetition.wordpress....

Thank you fo your attention.

Iryna

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Iryna and welcome!

Well done and congrats on publishing the first book and winning the competition. If the translation is poor, it may be problematic to attract audience, however there might be readers who like it unrefined. Is "Enslaved.." also available in Ukrainian/Russian?
No need to place the same info on multiple threads.

Meanwhile, hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Thank you, Nik.

Yes, I have the book in the Ukrainian language. But it was impossible to publish it on Amazon.

Would you like to read my book for free? I would be more than happy to share it.

Thanks,
Iryna

Hi Iryna, thanks for the offer. Although romantic (sometimes), romances is not really my thing -:). However, if it's in paper, I can maybe give it a try (and see whether I'm missing a huge genre) and pick it up when in Ukraine next time to save you international delivery costs.

Tori | 11 comments Hello all!
It just occurred to me I haven't introduced myself, so I figured I should.

I've been interested in this group for a while--it seems very informative for the aspiring or present writer. I've been too shy to post anything until, well, now; anything mentioning politics makes me nervous. However, I figured it doesn't hurt to step beyond those boundaries and at least say hello. Nothing to gain unless you try, right?

Erik Christensen | 3 comments Greetings, everyone. I am a newly-published author looking to make friends and connections. I'm a science fiction and fantasy buff, but I've recently branched out into the classics, ranging from Aphra Behn to Jane Austen. Aside from reading and writing, my interests include politics, sports, finance, cooking, and home improvement. As you can probably tell, I am also a fan of the Oxford Comma.

Cheers,

Erik

Hello, everyone. I, too, am a newly-published author looking to make friends and connections. For the past seventeen years, I have taught English, composition, and literature courses at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels. My most recent book, "By a Prophet: A Collection of Christian Haiku, Vol. 2," is an exploration of embedded (found) haiku---"unintentional" poems discovered in "non-poetic" contexts. (Biblical prose is the context I examine). All of the poems I discovered contain unique syllabic, thematic, and literary patterns; many incorporate multiple literary devices at once: simile, metaphor, synechdoche, metonymy, personification, irony, rhetorical question, allusion, and various forms of parallelism, to name a few. I was also interested in examining how "creative" literary devices and elements are used in the construction of non-fictional narratives found throughout the Bible. In addition to teaching, reading, and writing, my interests include politics, international affairs, inter-textuality, eschatology, social and economic justice, and biblical prophecy.

Andrew Montlack | 3 comments Hi, Andrew here. After 20 years as an indie filmmaker in New York City, finances and the desire for a life (i.e. a family and a house) forced me to bow out; in order to channel my creative passion (which seems to persist, finances and life notwithstanding) and make use of my craft, I adapted an original screenplay into a debut novel (posted on this group's promotional thread).

The steep and sometimes overwhelming learning curve for self-promoting/self-publication has led me to this group. My insights are likely to be pretty basic (e.g. over the summer, after running half a dozen paid boosts, I finally figured out that the best promotional material to post on facebook is video, not text blog), and I am wrestling with the additional time/energy demands of full time parenting my 15-month-old girl, but I look forward to sharing what/when I can!

I just visited New York for the first time in June, and loved it. That said, I can see why a change might be necessary. It sure isn't a cheap city to live in!
But what an amazing city!

message 973: by P.K. (new)

P.K. Davies | 402 comments Hi Michelle. Welcome. It's best not to think of writing as a way to earn money - it seldom does. But it is a way of liberating one's ideas and holding up a mirror to one's characteristics, which can lead to making money in another field. When you find your feet you could start a thread about autism; it is a very interesting subject and it is good that it is now recognised so widely and there is more help out there for parents who have to cope with autistic children. We would probably be surprised how many readers have experience in this field.

Sarah (sarahsweetz25) | 9 comments Hi everyone,

I' m Sweetly ( pen name - Sarah) from India. I am an entrepreneur by passion in Medical Field - UK based for the past 12 years and by profession I am a teacher. I am an avid reader of books.

I am basically here as a flashlight to help my best pal. Also I am here to learn a lot from all established authors and their esteemed works.

I do plan to eventually come out with a self-published book in Children's Literature in November of 2018 and an enchanting and thought-provoking script that has the potential to be made into a movie. I enjoy gardening and I am currently pursuing a new hobby knitting.

Looking forward for help and guidance.

Vince Loggia | 52 comments Hello all and Happy New Year. I am a first timer having just joined moments ago. Like some of the others I have seen in this thread I have been "other things" throughout my adult life but have always desired writing as a career. So several months ago I began writing my first novel and to my surprise after some basic character development the story began writing itself. As the author I have no idea whether it is any "good" or not although I did rewrite it several times trying to get it as good as I could and I just self published on Amazon two days ago. I am currently working on my second and when done will write the sequel to the first. I may be bouncing some ideas off all of you over the next several months and I would appreciate any feedback you may have. That's all for now and thanks for listening. I will definitely give back as much advice as a fledgling author can so if I can ever be of service to anyone please do not hesitate to ask.
