We seem to be blessed with very well travelled folks here-:)
Well done on the novels!
Hope your name will be out soonest, you'll enjoy here and contribute

So, you've been in the Himalayas? I used to have a dear Nepalese friend, but on one of his visits home his plane crashed at Kathmandu airport. I believe it's a tricky place because of sudden downdrafts. So, if I ever go there, I'll rid a Yak.
:)
Bob

the summer after college, i backpacked in europe (including amsterdam) and taiwan. in a tent city outside of london, i had my shoes stolen in the early morning hours before i had to catch my flight to taiwan. i was able to scavenge shoes two sizes bigger from the lost and found. one of my first tasks in Taipei was to buy shoes that fit.

Yeah, travelling barefoot would've been more extreme

Hope all you well-travelled folk kept diaries. I am assured by my publisher that books about road trips or Yak trips (especially barefoot ones) are very popular. Now I'm trying to find out where Mum's old diaries went - though I'd better stick to the travel ones. ;-)
Unfortunately my travels were all inside my head, though that takes me to galaxies far, far away. :-)

Not bad too. Are there any indies among astronauts, cosmonauts, taikonauts? When travelling in galaxies, pass them that they'd be most welcome here -:)

Many thanks! I'll make a point of actually replying, instead of only watching from the sidelines. ;)

Welcome to the group - it's very writer friendly."
Thanks, Graeme! Just accepted your friend request; the honor is all mine...

My God, what a story! Unfortunately yaks do sometimes misplace their feet and fall into ravines on occasion... Either way I hope you make it Nepal one day; it is truly amazing. And I'm now officially Dutch thanks my marriage as well! It's a great passport to have these days...

Great tip - thanks! Good luck finding her diaries...

Nothing is mandatory, but we'll appreciate -:)

I'm currently writting the outlife for the first book of a series and I believe that this group may help.Anyway,I hope we get along.

Good luck with the book and the series. Lots of helpful tips, resources around and people usually willing to help with input on any question at hand -:)
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Welcome Olga!
be sure to check out our Author Resources spreadsheet:

Joined the group earlier this year, but something came up and I opted out of several groups because I couldn't keep up. I hope to now.
I'm writing a young adult paranormal fantasy series... trying to stick with book one so I can get it published, but keep stopping to make notes for books 2 and 3. Also working on a children's book. Goal is to publish early next year.
If I don't contribute enough, please feel free to kick me out! I'm serious. Thank you.

Good luck with the series and the children's book. We don't kick out anyone - just not our attitude, especially not those who drink scotch and have Macallan 18 waiting to be shared with folks soonest -:)
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Thank you for that very warm welcome!!
I asked Santa for a bottle of Lagavulen 18 year, but times are tough, so I'll settle for a bottle of Jack Daniels. LOL!!

welcome, Sue! just remember Nik's motto:
"Do whatever--responsibly. Get rich! Have fun!"

welcome, Masi! we have quite a few sci-fi and astronomy lovers here. you're in good company.

I like the thought of getting rich. Income has been a big challenge for me, not sure if you want to story here, but I do look forward to learning how to promote my work and get the word out about my books. I did try a crowd fundraiser but was not successful with it.
Looking forward to learning more about this group and about GoodReads

Not sure we can show a shortcut to riches, but there is a wealth of knowledge and lots of helpful resources in 'stats and marketing', 'authors resources' and other threads and folders plus our author-members often generously share their experience and successful tactics.
Hope you'll enjoy, derive benefit and contribute

Thanks Nik
I understand it is a long process. My latest book is the first of a few to work on promoting my profession. Too many who could benefit are not turning to OT out of lack of knowledge from both lay people and doctors. It took lots of brainstorming to come up with this book as a potential solution to the problem.
One of my other books deals with my journey with a chronic illness which has drained my earnings and my energy. Since I have limited energy, what would you recommend as the best first thread to read to gain ideas for promoting a book on a budget?

Even some free promos result in exposure and sometimes in subsequent sales..
Hope you get better health wise and financially!

I accepted an invitation from Alex, because I had enjoyed his comments on another thread and found he had great recommendations.
I have just published the third book in my six-part series, Catwalk, Trust. I presently work at an adult school, teaching disadvantaged people life skills to get into the work force. The curriculum applies to my own challenges of making my writing career successful. My job has also been an amazing source of inspiration for my novels, gaining insight into the triumphs and tragedy in life from a diverse community.
I'm Canadian, living in California. With dual citizenship, I travel between the two countries often, and love to globetrot when I can.
My main goal of joining this group is to hear about everyone's experiences in the writing world. From the sounds of the introductions, this is a facingating group!

Good luck with Catwalk and with helping disadvantaged people.
Following discussions that we had here, Canadian- American dual citizenship might sound pretty attractive to some of our members-:)
Hope you'll extract diverse experiences here, enjoy and contribute!

Welcome back, Sue!! I missed seeing you around WWW and was glad to see when you started posting again. I know what you mean about having to opt out. I had to unjoin several groups recently because it was too much to keep up with and I was missing a lot of updates that I wanted to see from just a few groups :).

welcome, Suzy!
that's a really fulfilling career! we talk about wealth too and i'm sure that managing finances is one of those life skills. i'm sure your viewpoint would be valuable.
don't forget to check out our author resources: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
as well as announce your book promotions (sales and whatnot) for your books in our "Announcements & Book Promos" folder.

Hi, PJ here. I just published a book about a year in which my financial wealth was very small when I unexpectedly became unemployed. It's about the unconventional way in which I chose to handle living on unemployment benefits of $325 a week. (And wrote a lot.) That summer's Wealth was of a different kind, entirely.
The Amazon Kindle ebook will be on a free promotion tomorrow, Thanksgiving (Thursday) and Friday, November 24 and 25, 2016.

Critique and constructive criticism sent directly to me are appreciated. Public, positive, raving reviews even moreso! :)

Well done on the book and good luck with the promo. Hope you have every kind of wealth up your way.
Further hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Thank you, Nik! I'm happy to be here! (And am still learning my way around.)
Now that I have a moment to catch my breath, I'm beginning to wonder where people actually are. Are you still in Eastern Europe? I'm in the "Other" Colorado (shortgrass prairie).

Don't forget to check out our author resources spreadsheet:

I appreciate the link and also your kind words.
Speaking of free promos, does it matter the timing? I have not yet done a giveaway from my kids book as I did not have the budget to.
