The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2016
>
Team Peanuts
I started the Harry Dresden series last year as buddy reads with a couple of friends but then I fell behind and sort of haven't picked up the next book in the series since.I think the break from the books did me good, too, but I'm contemplating picking up the next one again soon, which would be Small Favor. Maybe for Uno since it would work well for reverse.
The Iron Druid series I haven't started yet, though the first book has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while now. I'm not sure why I keep putting it off but for some reason I always skip over it in favour of something else.

You must read the Iron Druid books - I love the dog in it - he is so funny and sarcastic. I'm going to be reading book 8 soon.
I love Oberon! Need to catch up on the Iron Druid Chronicles as well. I think I am on book 4 or 5. It's been a while :)
I didn't realise there were 8 books already! I've heard good things about Oberon, especially in the audio versions :-)
LOL, excellent image!I love planning. And all kind of spreadsheets and (excel) tables. And to organize and then re-organize my GR shelves.
And after all that planning I finally grab a book on emotional impulse... and try to fit "in my plans".
Seems like I am in perfect team for me - team named "peanuts" ;)
I have selected several books I'd like to read during the UNO challenge but, ultimately, I'm a mood reader :)
Lol yes, organising books into piles and selecting those for upcoming challenges, and then either reading something completely different or reading them before the challenge starts.. sounds like something I would do hehe.
I'm more of a mood reader. If I do any planning I never really stick to it and just end up reading what I want.
When I was a teenager I used to read really long book like "War and Peace" etc. and I ALWAYS had to finish them as a matter of pride. When I started a book I finished it that was the rule. Now I just read for fun, whatever I am in the mood for. I might skip from genre to genre or I might just read historical romance novels for a month straight. I guess I'm just not that stubborn anymore lol :D
Haha! "War and Peace" is one of those books that I keep eyeing and thinking "nope, nope, too long". Some day I will pick it up though and if it takes me a few months or years, then so be it.I'm skipping around as well, usually, but lately, I've been reading a lot of the same stuff. I do have a penchant towards fantasy/paranormal though, always have.

Even if I really don´t like it.
Yeah, I know what a waste of time that can be and how many other fantastic books are waiting to be read... but I can´t fight the "Monk" inside me, LOL.
Oh don't worry! I still finish every book as well!I actually have a book lying next to my normal reading pile that has about 20 pages left. I kind of can't bring myself to read them (at the moment) but I also don't want to just put the book back onto the shelf without having read them!
I do agree, there are sooo many good books out there and it would seem like a waste of them but.. meh.. Then again, bad books in between make you enjoy the good ones even more?! Or something like that..?? hehe
Janet Evanovich's numbers series could be a good one for numbers, Nicci French's Days of the Week series and Sue Grafton's Alphabet list could be good ones as well.I've read a few of each but will reread as well.
Oh yes, Stephanie Plum should definitely work well for Uno, and they're quick, fun reads! I can't even remember at what number I stopped...Never read Nicci French, though I have a couple of her books on my shelves. Whenever I see one when I'm secondhand book shopping, I pick it up but then I don't read them haha. I have a large pile of crime novels that I've been meaning to read for years :-/ Some day...!
I haven't heard much about Sue Grafton, apart from her X novel as that always comes in handy for certain challenges but never read anything by her.
With Janet Evanovich I stopped at 13. Even I couldn't decide between Ranger and Morelli and it was driving me crazy. I kept feeling sorry for the guys but I could totally understand Stephanie :DDI'd love to do a re-read though. The first couple of books are just so funny :)
I think that's around where I stopped as well. The indecision, while understandable, was bugging me to no end and they felt repetitive after a while - I read quite a few one straight after the other and I think that was a bad idea.Give them a try, Danielle! Grandma Mazur is totally awesome!!

Now, with less than 6 days to go before the start - is there a book you are sure you're going to read once the challenge starts? Or a book you know you are absolutely going to read in March no matter what happens?
Don't worry mood readers, I'm not asking you to plan :-) I just wanted to start getting a bit of an idea of who might be starting with what so we can start filling in the spreadsheet a little.
Elinaly, are you still planning on reading The Hitchhiker's Guide?
There are a four books releasing in March that I definitely will be reading as I love these series/authors
Card 4 - 4th in series
Card 2 - place T
Card 6 - character S
Skip - author P
Card 9 - 9th in Series
Card 2 - character T
Card 1 - 1st in series
Card 7 - author V
Card 2 - 2nd in series
Card 8 - author E
I've waited to read
as it works for the Reverse card
Aah Mercy... :-))) That's one I have on the menu for March as well.I hope you're going to enjoy
:-) Everyone is swooning over Woolf hehe.Hmm... that's right
is released next month.. I might keep that one for April then so we have another reverse, if I decide to read it.
Eldarwen wrote: "Elinaly, are you still planning on reading The Hitchhiker's Guide? ..."Yep, definitely!
But as I understood we may need it a bit later?
Eldarwen wrote: "That will fit nicely into hand eight to take care of the Draw 2 - Reverse - 1 ..."
Some of you seem to be readers, who can read a lot within a week. I am able to read max ca 100 pages a day (depends on a day also - workday, weekend etc). So usually I end up reading one and a half or max two books in a week.
The first book I am going to read in the beginning of March is:
The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin by Vladimir Voinovich.
I will be reading translated version (title in Estonian Sõdur Ivan Tšonkini elu ja ebatavalised seiklused I)
I need to read it also for another team challenge :)
It could cover cards in first hand:
No 5 (has a character with a first name starting with I); OR
No 7 (has an author first name starts with V); OR
DRAW TWO (because of the 5 and 7)
Or if faster readers will take first hand, then in second hand:
No 2 (has a character with a surname starting with T)
No 7
No 5
Sorry I've been AWOL. Moving house AND the flu have done me in :(I'm not really good with planning but my TBR list 1600+ long so I'm sure I can fit something in. I'm trying to read all the GR Choice awards nominees and winners for the various fiction categories. I'll bave a browse :)
Oh don't worry about earlier or later hands, Elinaly. Read for whatever card suits you best. Silje and I will be juggling things around towards the end of the month in case we don't manage to read all the cards, but I'm confident we will :-)And every book counts! Whether you read 4 books a day, a week or a month :-) So don't worry about how many pages you read in a day. It's all about the fun here hehe. And we all know the problem of work getting in the way of reading time hehe.

Sounds like you were having a wonderful time :-/ Sucks when you get the flu at such an inconvenient time! I mean, more so than when you get it when you aren't moving or doing anything else majorly important and time consuming. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Filled in the first books that have been mentioned and added
for myself as it covers the Draw 2 (reverse and 0) in hand eleven. For the rest, I'm really not sure yet what I'll be reading. I want to read everything at the moment haha, which doesn't make narrowing things down any easier ;-)
Besides, there's different tasks for different challenges to keep in mind and not all of these tasks are known in advance so I'll just have to wait and see hehe.
It's nice to see the hands starting to be filled though :-) Makes me itch even more for this to start!
I'm going to start The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra soon. Can that be used for SKIP, perhaps?
That would work for a Skip, yes! :-) I'll add it to the spreadsheet.Though, it needs to be started on March 1st to be able to count for Uno.
Silje wrote: "I have a whole bookshelf full of books to be read at home, not sure where I'll start:-):-P"Hahaha, aaah decisions decisions ;-)

2 days to go!! :-D
I think I even know which book I'm going to start with hehe. I have
sitting here staring at me. But since I'm also rereading the Cassie Palmer books, I might also start with
. Decisions, decisions... I love both authors a lot hehe.
I decided to reread them in October because the new book came out in November, but I've been draaaaaaaagging and other books for challenges got in the way - something I really need to change >.< Because I still haven't read
!! D:
Sounds like a good plan!I'm currently finishing off my last February read (
), but I'm pretty sure I'll finish it off tomorrow as I'm not sure I'll spend tonight reading. I was speed reading all weekend for a race and now I'm drained haha.
Pepperpots wrote: "I have finished one of my two remaining February reads...almost ready for my first UNO read :)"Go go, you can finish it! :-)
Whichever one you want, really :-)The ones we're trying to get out of the way first are Reverse cards (read a book someone else on the team has previously read) and we have 4 of those left.
The other card we're trying to eliminate quickly are the Draw 2. For this one you have 3 possibilities left. You can combine 2 cards per hand in the following hands by using the Draw 2:
Hand Three: 9, 6, 2, 6, 3
Hand Eight: 4, 5, 7
Hand Eleven: 1, 5, 8
(Books have already been added to the spreadsheet, so have a look around whenever you want to see which cards are available.)
Countdown to Start
Main cities, FYI:
Tokyo: 5pm, 1st March
London: 8am, 1st March
New York: 3am, 1st March
San Francisco: Midnight, 1st March

I see you've read quite a few Vampire Academy books. I might give that series a go for the REVERSE card.
I started
but the second book
doesn't seem to fit in. Anyone read it?
