Nanci | 1864 comments Glad you got onas a hitchhiker for Around the World, Greta! What team?

Brianna, you should hop on a team too!

message 202: by Greta (new)

Greta Just saw your post, Nanci. The Wandering Bibliophiles:-)

How did we end up doing for March?

message 203: by Greta (new)

Greta Will we get to use books from March for April if they weren't used?

message 204: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments I just finished The Marriage of Opposites. I'll update it on the spreadsheet and put it on my UNO shelf.

message 205: by Greta (new)

Greta That one looks good! I now have several of her books on my tbr- just gave to read one!

I like her books, Greta. This one I would give 4.5 stars. Added bonus that it was historical fiction, which I didn't know until later.

message 207: by Greta (new)

Greta I finished City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare and added to spreadsheet for lots of letters :-)

message 208: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Currently reading, Crocodile on the Sandbank. Shorty little mystery, so I should finish it soon.

What place did we end up in for March?

message 209: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 65 comments If I read a book previously that someone else read, do I still need to add it to my uno shelf even if it wasnt read this month?

message 210: by Teasha (last edited Apr 06, 2016 06:37AM) (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 65 comments I like to read more than one book at a time and lately have been finishing the same day so I haven't been posting on here what I have been reading so sorry for my lack of posts!

message 211: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Letitia, I didn't understand what you mean... The book has to be started after March 1st and it has to be finished in April. If this book has been read by someone else, she/he will add "reverse" to this book.

Guys, I am a little busy these days, so sorry in advance if I don't answer your questions in time

message 212: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Greta, no, we can't , I explained it in the previous post. But we did good and I think we'll do even better this month!

message 213: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Letitia, in response to your post 223 maybe I can help answer since our wonderful captain is busy right now. If you have read a book that someone else is reading just write that on the spreadsheet in that spot. As long as the book is listed on your GR shelves as being "read" it's fine. You do not need to put it on your UNO shelf. For instance, I had read a book that someone else was reading, but I read it before I was on GR. I just added it to my "read" shelf (with a guess at the year) and that was fine. Make sense? Kierra, if that's incorrect, please feel free to correct me.

Also, for post 224, you don't have to post what you're reading here. The main thing is to put books on spreadsheet. I just posted mine in 222 to let the team know I am working on it. . I don't always do that, but I'm not as fast a reader as some and I just wanted the team to know I was still reading. :)

message 214: by Teasha (new)

Teasha Schultz (lhk3) | 65 comments Thank you Nanci! That answered my question perfectly. I saw that someone is currently reading a book I already read. I marked it on the tracking sheet but wasn't sure if it needed to be added to my uno shelf or just the read shelf was fine. :)

Okay. I do post everything on the spreadsheet but I don't post it in here since I usually read at least a book a day. I felt bad for not checking in, so I wanted to make sure that it was known I am still reading.

message 215: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Glad I could help. A book a day...that's awesome! You're going to help our team a lot!

message 216: by Raine (new)

Raine (raine_renner) | 23 comments Not sure if we can still use it, but I've updated some books for March and my April books are updated.

message 217: by Konstantina✨️ (new)

Konstantina✨️ (itskt) | 12 comments I still don't know whether any book I read during the challenge counts or whether it has to qualify for something... but if it does qualify for a hand does it have to be the one we picked?

message 218: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Hi Konstantina,
Trying to help out while our captain, Kierra, is busy for awhile. :)

Anything you read in April should be entered on the Personal Tracking Spreadsheet. I'm guessing Kierra sent you a link in a PM. If you look at the spreadsheet, you will see that we enter the title of our book and then try to fill in as many card options as possible, using character names, place, etc. Later, Kierra and our co-captain, Juan, decide how to best delegate the books to the various cards in our hand for April. Also, if you notice you've read a book that someone else on the team has read, note it in that column because those can be used for a Reverse card. Hope this answers your question!

message 219: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Nanci, thanks for answering the questions, you're really helping me out! Since Snell(2nd co-cap) is no longer here maybe you can become a co-cap?

Konstantina, I am so sorry! Seems like I haven't sent you a message with a link to our personal spreadsheet! I am fixing this right now :)

message 220: by Greta (new)

Greta Hey team! Just checking in, still working on my books but nothing new to enter yet :-)

Glad I could help, Kierra! I would be happy to help out as a 2nd co-captain, if you'd like.

message 222: by Greta (new)

Greta I just read this book: Kristy's Great Idea (The Baby-Sitters Club, #1) by Ann M. Martin

It's 176 pages and is MG or YA. Does it count for this challenge?

message 223: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Greta, if it's more than 100 pages long, it's ok

message 224: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Guys!
Sorry for not being here for a long time. But it's been half a month already and we need to get some results. Please, update the tracking spreadsheet and your uno shelves.

Nanci, can you edit the main spreadsheet now?
Juan, can you move some books to the main spreadsheet?

message 225: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Hi Kierra!
Good to have you back! Yes, I just checked and I can edit the main spreadsheet. :)

If you would like for me to move any of the books, just let me know.

message 226: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Team, remember we have the color challenge this month too. Here are the cards and colors (of the book covers) that we need for April:
Hand 3
card 3-green
Hand 8
card 7-green
Hand 10
card 3-blue
Hand 13
card 2-yellow
Hand 14
card 2-red
card 7-yellow
card 9-red

Anybody have any books that have covers to match those? Kierra, do you think we should add that to the personal spreadsheet to keep track of it?

We've got 19 books completed according to the personal spreadsheet. A solid start, but we've got a fair way to go. Please update the personal spreadsheet if you haven't yet. Go team! :)

message 227: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments What do you all think about Circling the Sun by Paula McLain as a yellow cover? The rules say it has to be at least 50% of the required color.

message 228: by Greta (new)

Greta Nanci, for those covers do they gave to be the cover & some other criteria? I'm reading a yellow one now.

message 229: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Greta, It just has to fit the card too. For instance, my book could work for yellow card 2, because a character in the book was named Toomba, which works for "T" for card 2.

The other yellow card we need to satisfy is a 7 card, so your book would need to be 7th in the series, or have a 7 in the title, or have a place, character, etc. that starts with a "V". If you look at the personal spreadsheet you can see all the categories.
Comprende? :)

message 230: by Greta (new)

Greta Yup, got it! I will look to see what I have.

message 231: by Greta (new)

Greta I have updated my books.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling works for 3Blue with the H title.

message 232: by kierra (new)

kierra (karmania) Nanci, nice job! I'll check my books to see which color I can get for this challenge! :)

message 233: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Kierra,
Hope it's ok with you. I added another column on the personal spreadsheet for "Book Cover Color". I put my book, Circling the Sun by Paula McLain for Hand 13 card 2 yellow and Greta's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling for Hand 10 card 3 blue. If you like I can add them to the main spreadsheet too.

message 234: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Kierra,
Since we haven't heard from Juan and I had some time, I went ahead and posted all the books that have been read to our spreadsheet. The ones that I posted are shaded a light blue on our personal spreadsheet.

Please double check to make sure I haven't made any errors and of course move any around that you feel would be better placed elsewhere. I've never done this before, so believe me, my feelings will not be hurt! :) I didn't fill in the Draw 2 (not sure how you wanted those) or the Wild cards, as I figured we could fill those in later.

message 235: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Kierra,
I looked at some other teams' spreadsheets and I think I figured out how to do the Draw 2 cards. I had trouble getting Hand 2 to work for the Draw 2, but hoping once we have the Wild Draw 4 book read, there will be something in it that works for the 7 card and we can use that for our Draw 2.

message 236: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Oh my goodness! I just saw this on another team's thread. I don't know how to get it on our thread, so I'm pasting it here. I'll see if it all of it transfers after I hit, "Post".
~BINGO Mini Challenge~

April is a month for celebrations. We all know of April Fools, but there are so many more celebrations in April. Have you ever heard of the International Snailpapers Day, Chocolate-Covered Cashews Day or the International Marconi Day? No? Well, those are only a few of those you might have missed. So join in and let's celebrate April!

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

◈ Books started after April 13 and read between April 13 - April 30 count.
◈ Books started before April 13th do not count
(start of challenge times under spoiler)
(view spoiler)

◈ As a team, get "BINGO" by reading books for five squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to create a line (there are 12 possible lines)
◈ Only one book per square (so one book may be used for more than one "line")
◈ For each line completed, your team receives a "BINGO Bonus" of being able to chose one card in any April hand that you can claim double points for
◈ Books used for BINGO do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply,
◈ Team spreadsheets have been updated with a BINGO tab so that you can track your books and claim your bingo lines

Nanci | 1864 comments Raine, you are my hero! I have no idea how you were able to post the Bingo challenge, but thank you so much! I noticed one team was able to "x" out the squares as they were completed too. If you know how to do that and could share it with us, that would be great.

I will look at the book I'm reading now and see if it fits any of the squares. I'm hoping the MC will get married, but I'll see what else might work with publishing dates. I don't understand what it means when it says, "read a book with 2 and 5 in the page numbers". Don't most books have those page numbers? I must be missing something in the interpretation. ;)

Greta We only need to read one book/task per square for Bongo, right?

Here are the rules copied from a team's thread:

Nanci | 1864 comments Hi team,
Just to bring you up to date, I messaged the moderator to see if we could get a few more players. I'm not sure that's protocol, but we haven't heard anything from Jamie or Konstantina yet this month and we could use some more readers.

If anyone could read a 2card book and a 3Green card book, then we could finish hand 3. Hand 4 is already complete, so then we'd be working on Hand 5. I know it's a big order to get through all the hands this month, but I'm an optimist and I say, "We can do it!" Happy reading!
