So since so far there is no input from other members, I was thinking a fair compromise would be for us to each add two books. I was thinking Fates and Furies and Everything, Everything. That will give us 6 books to read after the one coming up. Let me know if you think that is a good idea!

Deborah Heffner | 1076 comments Mod
I like that idea!!

I was thinking The Girls (if you can't get it we can hold off), A Little Life and This Is Where It Ends. I have so many unread books to get into. Any on our bookshelf would work for me.

I just checked my library. All those books are available, so I am good to go!

I have them too. We will figure a schedule in the next few days. Any ideas on the order?

AngelofNoMercy | 8 comments Hello two crazy ladies that read at an astonishing rate of speed. I'm not going to try to keep up, but I figure if you're devouring a book every 2 weeks, I could grab every other or every third down the line in order to give myself a comfortable month - month and a half to read at my pace and still participate. I'm about a week out from finishing my current book - Tami Hoag's The 9th Girl (suspense, good stuff, recommended). Then I'll be picking up Slaughterhouse Five. I don't know if that will work into your reads or not. If not, if you give me some advance notice on Wuthering Heights, I'll pick that up.

Deborah Heffner | 1076 comments Mod
I like the idea of squeezing in Slaughterhouse Five after our next few books then getting into the ones on the bookshelf. I have it waiting to read and Megan also wants to read it.

Mari Carroll Yep. Those gals do read fast...super fast. I'll chime in when I can but I can barely finish two books a month - one for my book club and one of my own choosing. I will be chiming in on I'll Give You the Sun...I LOVED that book!!!

I have heard great things about I'll Give You The Sun. Mari, we are more than open to change the schedule. We don't get a lot of feedback so a book every two weeks was working. Please feel free to leave any comments on schedule and books.

message 62: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll Oh my gosh. I would NEVER think of changing your schedule! I'm extremely impressed and will chime in when I can. Y'all have a great diverse schedule for sure :) I may be a bit of a "silent participant" but I will definitely join in on the conversations that I can. I use Goodreads more for getting recommendations, but it's also nice to find a group that reads book similar to what I read. Just finished "A Mother's Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy." Written by the mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine shooters. Definitely a TOUGH read in terms of being a mother myself...but shed a lot of light on details that were not released to the public. I most liked that she NEVER truly defended her son...just provided additional details. We will be discussing it at Book Club tonight and excited to see what is next.

message 63: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll PS. Here is what we have read so far this year if anyone is looking for recommendations. You can check out my ratings/reviews if that might help :)

Missoula by Jon Krakauer
The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff
Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson
The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B by Sandra Gulland
A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
The Girls by Emma Cline
A Mother's Reckoning by Sue Klebold

Happy reading!

You might want to get a hold started on the Girls. My library has a huge wait on it I am guessing Fates and Furies won't be so bad since it has been out a while.

What did you think of the The Girls by Emma Cline? We are going to read that later this year.

The schedule through November 15th has been posted. Since we are ending the year with 29 Gifts I figured we could choose one book before that. Anybody have any suggestions? I am thinking Wuthering Heights, Feminine Mystique or Bad Feminist. I know we still have a few to get through.

message 69: by Lilith (new)

Lilith | 802 comments Mod
Personally, I would suggest Wuthering Heights...the reason being is that a few of us expressed interest in reading it and also it has been on the bookshelf for a while.

Hey reading buddys!!!
I have recently conferred with AngelOfNoMercy about two potential books to add to the schedule....(No rush, I know we already have quite a few lined up.) But for the future they are as follows:
Lobster Boy - by Fred Rosen
Dead Ends: The Pursuit, Conviction, and Execution of Serial Killer Aileen Wuornos - by Joseph Michael Reynolds.
If anyone is interested, lets add these books to the schedule! If not, we will read them on our own. Thanks!

Ooh they look good. Let's find a way to squeeze them in. We need to schedule a meeting at a time that works for all of us.

A Little Life may become a series. The book is on our shelf so let's try to get to it early next year.

I have added If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo to out bookshelf. It looks really interesting and others have expressed interest in reading it. You don't see many books where the lead character is trans. I am hoping we can read this early next year.

Oh boy, did you notice we have mod under our pictures now since we run this show? Okay, I understand. But, I do think people are going to have trouble finding the Aileen Wournos book. Is there another one we can choose instead?

You will have to confer with Megan. She wanted to read this one, so it's up to her! I know Lobster Boy was on her list...maybe that one?

Hi! I was wondering if everyone was cool with reading "We are Water" by Wally Lamb after "The Particular Sadness Of Lemon Cake"? Funny, quirky Aimee Bender followed by serious, dramatic Wally Lamb....I think it's a good variety!

How does everybody feel about reading one of Nicola Yoon's books after this? We could read Everything, Everything or The Sun Is Also A Star. Both have really good goodreads reviews.

I, personally think we should read Everything, Everything seeing as how it's been on the bookshelf for a while.
