Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Metamorph Publishing has new books to offer this year! First of all, we have Fang and Claw (Undead Unit 1) and Souls of the Reaper (Undead Unit 2), both of which are crime/paranormal novels written by author Markie Madden. These two books have excellent ratings on Amazon and have been in the top 200 since their release! Also by Markie Madden, Clash of Times: The Quest, a rewritten version of her original Once Upon a Western Way, and is available now in paperback, e-book releases on April 30. All three of these books are available in adult or young adult versions!

We also have Rubies from the Heart: Dark Poetry, by award-winning poet Cynthia Ruby, from west Texas. This is her debut book of poetry, but she's currently working on her second one!

Then we have YA dystopian Unrelenting Hell (Apocalyptic Book 1) by Alana Madden. A young adult herself, this story of the zombie apocalypse will appeal to anyone who enjoys TWD! The paperback is available now, and the e-book will be released on May 25!

Metamorph Publishing is also putting together Gems of Strength, a Gems of Sisterhood Anthology, by a collective of women authors called The Sisterhood. Gems of Strength is due to be released on May 30 of this year, and features stories with strong female protagonists who must overcome some horrific obstacle in their life. These short stories are a wonderful introduction to all our incredible authors!

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Let me tell you a little about the Undead Unit Series! This is a series I'm very excited about, and the 4 and 5 star reviews tell me the readers are excited, too!

First up, the series was inspired by a DVD marathon of Supernatural episodes! I was just drifting off to sleep one night, and the idea came to me in that twilight moment between sleep and wakefulness.

What if Immortal creatures were real? What if they were living and working right alongside humans? This is the world, about 100 years in the future, that I've created with the Undead Unit Series. Immortals are known and (marginally) accepted by society. Of course, they must swear the Undead Oath to become citizens and be accepted into school or work places. The Oath is worded differently for each species of Immortal; for example, Vampires are not allowed to drink blood of or turn humans.

In this future world, crime still occurs, and the Dallas police department has formed a special unit made up of Immortal officers to investigate crimes committed by or against other Immortals: the Undead Unit. Heading up the unit is Lieutenant Lacey Anderson, a Vampire with a past; Werewolves killed her entire family in the 17th Century. Her partner and second-in-command is Colton Scarber. He's a Werewolf with anger management issues and, unknown to Lacey at the start, it was his ancestors who killed her family. These two are partnered together in spite of their protests. Thus, the adventure of the Undead Unit begins!

message 17: by Markie (new)

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Fang and Claw is the first book in the Undead Unit series, and it's recently had a cover upgrade! I don't think it's showing up here at GR yet, though. Fang and Claw was a lot of fun to write, just as the follow up books have been.

Lieutenant Lacey Anderson of the Dallas Police Department heads up a elite new squad dedicated to solving crimes involving Immortals like herself. Lacey, a Vampire left for dead when her family was slaughtered by Werewolves, still has nightmares about the attack.

Detective Colton Scarber is her unwilling partner and second-in-command. He’s a Werewolf, a descendant of those who killed Lacey’s coven. She’s unaware of this, but she doesn’t trust him from the start. When the fragile beginning of the team is threatened by the truth, can they learn to trust one another as partners must, or will the Undead Unit be doomed to failure?

A mysterious suspect and strange physical evidence leads them to solve a case spanning decades, and leaves Lacey with no other choice but to rely on her enemy when her very life is at stake!

message 18: by Markie (new)

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Souls of the Reaper is the second book in the series. Someone is stealing souls in Dallas. What would YOU do without your soul? People are wandering around, performing their usual daily routines, but without a conscience, without the morals and codes that usually govern human interactions!

A rogue Reaper is on the loose in the city of Dallas. Su Xiong is a sociopath with no care for human life. He steals souls whose numbers are not yet up in order to become a more powerful Immortal.

While he’s on the prowl to gain power, his soulless victims roam the streets without morals, without inhibitions, without any code of conduct or social mores. Crime has risen tenfold: petty crimes, road rage, prostitution, drinking, and gambling. But for each soul that he captures and keeps, his own mental stability begins to degrade, a fact that Xiong is dangerously blind to.

Can Lacey and Colton, along with Doctors Matthews and Dilorenzo, find him and stop him, before the insanity inside spoils the souls he holds within?

Rebecca McCray (RebPai) | 21 comments I have Fang and Claw in my TBR. Looks interesting. I particularly enjoy stories that present vampires and werewolves in a different light.

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments I'm hard at work on book 3 of the Undead Unit series, called Blood Lust. I'm not going to give you too much of a teaser, yet, but here's what you can look forward to:

Lacey is awakened by a chilling phone call. Her boyfriend, a Vampire, wakes alone in his home, covered in blood, with no memory of what happened. It looks like he’s violated the Undead Oath, and fed on a human.

While he’s in custody, more reports come in from all over the city. Other Vampires, covered in human blood, know nothing about what they’ve done. Lacey and her team struggle to find the person responsible for framing Vampires for murder.

Can the Undead Unit put a stop to the worst hate crime in Dallas’ history, and can Lacey overcome accusing the man she loves of homicide?

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Now, I'd like to take a moment to introduce some debut authors. The first one is my youngest daughter, Alana Madden. Though she's just a junior in high school, she's written her first full length (YA) novel! The book is called Unrelenting Hell, and I edited and published it for her. It's the first book in a series called Apocalyptic, and it's available for pre-order now. If you like zombie books and TWD, and don't mind reading YA, give it a try! You might just be surprised!

I'll ask a broad question: What is the level of violence in the books? The first one looks more mystery, but the second seems to take a darker turn. ..... but perhaps that's just my perception!

Great question! I wouldn't say there isn't a lot of violence in the books, at least not yet. There is one adult situation in the second book...how can I put this without spoiler? The bad guy does something to himself while with a victim, but it's not discussed in great detail.

On the other hand, both the books are available in both adult and young adult versions, the YA books with the major cursing removed.

I hope that answered your question!

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Another debut author we have to offer you is award-winning poet Cynthia Ruby! She's the author of newly-published Rubies from the Heart: Dark Poetry. If you're a fan of poetry in general, and darker poetry specifically, I encourage you to check out this book! You're sure to find something to love!

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Last, but certainly not least, I'd like to talk to you about a wonderful collaboration project I'm organizing called The Sisterhood. This is a group solely dedicated to women authors (sorry, guys) and we are putting together anthologies of short stories, hopefully two new ones each year. Each themed anthology will feature strong female protagonists revolving around the current theme.

Our first anthology is called Gems of Strength, and it's up for pre-order right now! These stories tell the tale of a strong female character who must overcome torture, oppression, depression, or some other horrible obstacle, but who continues to fight and grow as a person until she eventually overcomes!

At the moment, Gems of Strength has 15 confirmed authors, with a couple who are about to submit their entries in the next few days. Release day is May 30, so get your copy now, and save off the regular retail price! Here's more of a description of the book:

The weaker sex? There’s no such thing! Enter Anna, who fights against evil for what she knows is right. Enter Chessie, who must battle prejudice and overcome the torment she holds inside. Read Delia’s story, a struggle against domestic violence. Follow the tale of Apple as she struggles with her demons. And be inside the story with nameless women who must deal with the loss of a child, the inner struggle of uncertain sexuality, the escape from domestic violence, the healing of assault, and the finding of love.

These characters embody the strength of women, strip away the illusion of weakness, and bring hope of things to come. The authors of The Sisterhood bring you these poignant short stories and demonstrate there is nothing weak about women!

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Now, I'm going to talk about what's coming up! I already talked about Blood Lust (Undead Unit 3) a bit earlier. Book 4 in the Undead Unit series is called Siren Song. Here's a little bit about it:

Briona Solis is one of America’s most popular music stars. Her voice is acclaimed as the most radiant on the planet, and she has a beautiful figure to match. Avid fans flock to her performances.

While she’s on a week-long tour in Dallas, one of Briona’s fans is brutally assaulted, left in a dark alley, minus his eyes. The Undead Unit picks up the case, struggling to gather information on the unsub, hoping to prevent another assault.

After Briona’s next show, another victim turns up, then another. The only thing the victims have in common is their love for Briona’s music, and their missing eyes. Briona is leaving town soon after her last performance. Can the team find who’s responsible for these heinous crimes, before the unsub disappears?

message 30: by Markie (new)

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments And I'm really excited about book 5, Ashes to Ashes. This one is going to be so much fun, because it will take place in Egypt! I love ancient civilizations in general, and specifically ancient Egypt. I even took an online college course as a bit of research for this novel. I might do this one as my NANOWRIMO2016 book!

With the success of the Undead Unit spreading through law enforcement agencies around the world, Lacey and Colton are sent to Egypt to teach their officials how to form and manage an Undead Unit of their own.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian government is preparing to unveil a startling secret: the resurrection of ancient pharaoh Akenaten, using DNA from this unpopular leader’s mummy to create a new body for him.

Long thought dead, Horemheb’s ancient religious cult still lives on in the form of an Immortal Phoenix, who does everything in his power to prevent the reanimation of Egypt’s most infamous ruler. Can Lacey and Colton stop him, before he sabotages this scientific breakthrough?

message 31: by Markie (new)

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Book 6 is called Undead In Plain Sight, and is going to be a fun story to write. A brilliant molecular biologist, a Chameleon, has discovered a way to extend the human lifespan by 100 years, using the premise that our natural cells have a finite lifespan (the cell divides X number of times before dying), while cancer cells do not. Of course, the government gets their hands on it, forcing the scientist into hiding. In the meantime, another group seeks to find the scientist and destroy all his hard work, because of the fact that increasing the human lifespan will only lead to more starving people, more crime, and more violence.

message 32: by Markie (new)

Markie (httpsgoodreadscommarkie_madden) | 60 comments Book 7 is Angel of Death, where an Angel (an actual species of Undead) believes he is an angel of mercy. Book 8 will be Blue Moon, and the team will be tracking down a serial rapist who is drugging his victims in an unusual way. After that, I have some basic plot lines down for 6 more books, so there's no telling where the series is going to go from there!
