Chrissie | 1529 comments Except that you can get a cheaper rate at Audible if you buy 24 credits in one go, making them less than. 10USD per credit. Also you cannot return those books you dislike at Downpour. Downloading takes longer and lless are offered. wWhat is important is that they are competition! We need more of that.Downpour was saying they would soon offer more European business but nothing has come of it.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) One of the things I like best about Downpour is their files are MP3's instead of the proprietary, DRM-locked ones that Audible uses. That allows them to be played on many more devices more easily & also means never having to mess with licenses when changing computers.

Kristie | 2212 comments I've bought a couple books from Downpour on sale over the years, and I have no complaints with that experience.

Someday, when my TBR pile of books I accumulated from Audible is whittled down a bit, and if I ever exhaust my Overdrive selection from the library, their rental option might be tempting to me. I'm not a re-listener, so it's not compulsory for me to own my audio. Anyone know if their rental = streaming, or is it kind of like Overdrive where it's on your app until it expires?

FYI, there's a Downpour offers discussion, if anyone missed it: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

That sounds just like me!

tubemonkey | 94 comments You can try out Downpour's rental service by getting a free rental of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend". This offer expires tomorrow and you have 30 days to listen to it. -- http://www.downpour.com/i-am-legend-1

Additionally, Downpour has two trial offers:

1- free one month membership using code FIRSTDP
http://www.downpour.com/subscription/...

2- $1.99 rental (any rental book) using code RENTDP
http://www.downpour.com/rentals/

tubemonkey | 94 comments As in a paid membership?

I was able to get the free membership, even though I've done it before.

Regardless, you should still be able to get the two rental offers.

BTW, Downpour has a weekly $1.99 rental pick. This week just happened to be free. It's the first time they've done that.

Downpour's weekly deals run Tue ~ Mon.

Kristie | 2212 comments Good info, tubemonkey...thanks! I'm not in a place where I'm needing it right now, but I could see it as an option down the road.

skinmaan | 17 comments One thing to watch out for on Downpour - not every book is one credit. I've run into a couple that were 2, and there may be some that are more.
