Was it oversize/coffee table, or normal hardcover book sized? Remember the cover?

Banjomike | 132 comments Patrick Woodroffe has a whole bunch of sci-fi/art/mythology books

This jumbo link shows some images from one of them (Pentateuch of the Cosmogony) which also has large amounts of 'profound' text.

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments Maybe Always Coming Home or something else by Ursula K. Le Guin? Although there's not so much art as poetry and stories.

A review on Librarything.com appears to show four illustrations from Alien Landscapes by Robert Holdstock - David's suggestion

You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 176 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

Cassandra | 43 comments Can you tell us anything about the artwork?

Was it landscapes? SciFi vehicles? Alien creatures? Space Marines?

Photorealistic? Stylized?

A dark and muted palette or lots of colors?

Was it a lot of works by a single artist or a collection of works by different artists?

Remember, we know nothing about this book except what you tell us. Any detail at all could be the one that leads to an identification.

It's never a lost cause on this website group. We have had books solved after 10 years. I personally had one book found after about six years. I can tell you it is extremely gratifying to have the book found even after all those years. It's quite a thrill!

Keep bumping! (every month or so)

It's aliens and not landscapes or ships, but this book is very entertaining and ticks some of your memories... Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials: Great Aliens from Science Fiction Literature It was published in 1987, though.

Another possibility is Spacecraft 2100 to 2200 AD, which was published in 1978.

Cassandra | 43 comments If you could tell us some specific details about - say - the three most memorable pictures, perhaps we could identify one of them. If we could identify at least one of the artists who provided artwork for the book, that would go a long way to finding this particular collection.

For example, Hajime Sorayama is well known for NSFW pictures of cyborg females. Please don't look unless you're old enough.
