Ang from OZ | 1690 comments What about The Shanara Chronicles, Kamas? I really enjoyed it. But I guess that's probably in the fantasy genre.

My husband just recently subscribed to Amazon Prime, so we've been watching "Bosch." Has anybody else seen it? We're just starting season 2. Season 3 comes out on Friday. The actor playing Harry does a really good job. I may have pictured him a little different, but I do really like him. It's funny how a couple of the supporting characters look almost exactly the way I saw them in my mind!

I read The Sword of Shannara back in junior high, but I don't remember what went on. The only reason I know I read it is because I had to get it from the County Library instead of the City or School because all of my friends had checked it out. I haven't checked out the TV series yet.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments You should check out the TV series Kamas. I tried reading the books, but epic fantasy gives me a headache with all the wordiness, if you understand what I mean.

Well I'll have my nose to the grindstone for the next three weeks trying to get 2 books reviewed for Library Journal and 5 for RT before my daughter's Mexico wedding. I'm getting so excited for this event. Her bridal shower is in two days :)

I'm about half-way thru The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. It centers around the life of the young girl, Li-yan, into adulthood. Interesting story with not only a lot of insight into the Akha people and their traditions, superstitions, and belief in spirits, but also in depth information into the tea industry.

We're getting ready for a deluge of rain so I'll be sitting on the couch and reading my August reviews. I have sort of a time crunch in May because from the 15th to the 25th it'll be all wedding as we all get ready and head to Mexico for the big occasion of my daughter's big day :)

What's on your weekend reading list?

Reading Hope to Die by David Jackson. Hope to Die (DS Nathan Cody #2) by David Jackson

Should finish it today. It's a police procedural that calls itself a "A Gripping New Serial Killer Thriller." I'd say that describes it pretty well.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend to all my US members the unofficial start to summer here in the states.
I can't believe its almost June, I just turned 63 on Wednesday and my daughter got married last week. Today we're attending her "real" wedding as there are too many red tape details to get married out of the country.
I'm finally getting back into the swing of things and going through my tbr pile. I just finished Land Of Wolves by TJ Turner his alternate history novel a sequel to Lincoln's Bodyguard. It was amazing.

So do you have some beach reads set aside, some reading you've been saving for the summer months or does your reading just stay with the same flow through out the year.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Ruth | 206 comments I am reading "Sabriel" which is the first in a YA fantasy series by Garth Nix. Also, reading "The Thief" by Megan Whalen Turner, which is actually another YA fantasy series. I am loving both stories! I have been hounding my daughter to clean her room this weekend, which is such a mess. *sigh* So I haven't been able to read much.

I finished Two Family House and I loved it! The characters really stirred my emotions--sometimes making me feel sympathetic and want to cry, other times making me want to slap them upside the head! It is definitely a book that would be great to discuss.

Happy Saturday reader friends I've been home from the wedding for almost 2 weeks and I just can't get back to my normal groove, still taking naps and just can't get into the swing of things. Oh well I guess it will eventually get here. I guess the double edged sword of never traveling is that when you do its a huge deal. LOL

I did read a great alternate history Land of Wolves The Return of Lincoln's Bodyguard (Lincoln's Bodyguard Series) by Tj Turner if it looks like something you'd like you need to read the prequel novel Lincoln's Bodyguard In A Heroic Act Of Bravery Saves Our Beloved President! John Wilkes Booth Killed In Act Of Treason by T.J. Turner

Right now I'm reading for LibraryJournal review Nelson DeMille's upcoming drama The Cuban Affair. Can not put it down!!!

Anyone planning a vacation trip yet, doing anything fun this weekend or are you digging into the pages of your favorite escape :)

Have a great weekend!

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I just finished "Silver Silence" by Nalini Singh.
A long time fav author of mine. Absolutely loved it, and found myself lost in the story. Been a while since I read a book where I sat down for a quick reading session only to look up and see an hour and a half had passed!

Now doing a re-read of Rachel Vincent's Menagerie in preparation of book 2 coming out this week.

Downloaded The Roanoke Girls from my local library. Not sure what I think. It's about a family secret, though the secret is revealed early on, so it's not much of a secret to the reader. Not badly written, but the subject matter would not be for everyone. I am interested to see how it turns out in the end.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Enjoy, Deb!

No reading for me today, I went down to Gladstone again, 2nd time this week, got my hair done (early Birthday present from Handsome Prince) and to check on my Mum to see she was doing okay after the funeral on Thursday. I think the fact really hit home at the funeral for Mum, she got very very upset at the service. We had a nice day together today.

Has anyone heard anything about a book called "Still Alice by Lisa Genova" I thought it may make a good book club read.....

I hope your Mum's doing okay Ang. I'll keep her in my thoughts.

I have heard about the book, about a woman with early onset Alzheimer's disease.
Here's the blurb––
Alice Howland is proud of the life she worked so hard to build. At fifty years old, she’s a cognitive psychology professor at Harvard and a world-renowned expert in linguistics with a successful husband and three grown children. When she becomes increasingly disoriented and forgetful, a tragic diagnosis changes her life--and her relationship with her family and the world--forever.

At once beautiful and terrifying, Still Alice is a moving and vivid depiction of life with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease that is as compelling as A Beautiful Mind and as unforgettable as Judith Guest's Ordinary People.

I'm game
