Finished reading Memory Cards: Portraits from a Rural Journey by Michael K. Brantley. It was a series of stories about the author's life and experiences in NC. Having lived here all my life, I could definitely relate to a lot of it and many of the places mentioned I am familiar with.

Now reading Flash Crash by Denison Hatch. Another freebie that is turning out to be a pretty good thriller.

Don't you just love it when freebies are really good too?

I'll be there too only a bit behind you both
Maybe in a few weeks I'll open a whole book discussion with two threads one where spoilers are welcome and one where they aren't

This weekend I'm hoping to finish a January straggler that just showed up then head to my tbr pile and see what's next
of course now I'll first have to start The Rosie Effect!!

I plan to get The Rosie Effect this weekend at the library.
It was in the low 80s here yesterday, but we're supposed to linger in the 60s today throughout the weekend with the lows around 40.

Hot here in OZ, the next 5 or so days to be hotter than hell hot! I have a friend who lives in Maine in the U.S.A, and she said they'd had snow already! Do you guys get much snow where you live in winter?
I've never even seen snow!!!!!
Picked up The Rosie Effect from the library tonight.
I'm trying to finish off "Working Class Boy" today, so I can start "The Rosie Effect", Susan you have me dying with suspense after your comment yesterday!!!
Upper 60's and low 70's here in ND. Definitely not a typical ND November. Growing up I remember going trick or treating with a snow suit under my costume. One birthday sleepover my Mom had to drive my friends back to their houses in the middle of a blizzard. Definitely not typical weather for this time of year.
the cold front passed through Missouri finally so its low in the 40s and high in the 60s more usual than what has been happening.
Snow here usually comes in the dead of winter months January and February and we average under 10" but some winters we'll see upwards of 30 and some winters we get nothing. We do get freezing rain and that stuff is a real danger to driving and power lines.

I'm reading my February reviews for RT right now, I just finished The Silver Swan
for my library book club selection. I really enjoyed it. Next on the list is a a little novella,
that I'll be featuring on my blog next week as part of my Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas holiday blog bash where I'm featuring St. Martin's Press holiday releases + giveaways. Stop by the blog for more information and to enter -http://thereadingfrenzy.blogspot.com/
Finally it feels like Autumn with this latest cold front I may even click the remote for the gas fireplace tonight!

Recently I read Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult, which I loved. Now I'm reading Leave Me by Gayle Forman.
Not sure if it's just me or the books I've being selecting lately, but nothing has seemed to grab me! I started one that I might go back to later, and I finished one that was "okay" but not something that I couldn't put down.
Just started reading The Mapmaker's Children by Sarah McCoy and I think it's going to be good. I've downloaded it awhile ago, and I think it might be just what I need to turn things around.

Sometimes we just seem to get in a rut, hey Tarheelgirl! I haven't picked up a book all week, which is strange for me. I've bern binge watching Once Upon A Time, instead of reading.
I go through those times too TarHeelGirl
Wow Ang I haven't watched that series although I do love Jamie Dornan
Well heck I really don't watch tv except for Antiques Roadshow :)

Well Gang its officially the "Holiday Season"
so do you pull out old favorite holiday tales do you look for something new on the shelves?
Tell us about how you choose your holiday selections
I have a few that I read every year and then there are authors who always put out a holiday novel that I naturally gravitate to.

I'm reading "Huck Finn" with my son since he is reading it in his 9th grade English class. I just read Tom Sawyer last year and it has been fun reading this so soon after.
Once you get past the vernacular and the use of the "n" word, it's wonderful. Mark Twain knew what he was about. I'm reading it audio-style and the performance is fantastic. I'm enjoying the discussion raised with Victor.

Yes that is quite the quagmire of reading classic fiction especially based in the Southern part of the country.

I sometimes have a hard time getting into stories written during the latter half of the 18th century. But I've always enjoyed Twain (though A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court was a bit of a struggle at times). His writing is usually pretty clear with some humor and I find it translates well into modern times.
I am reading "Sing for Your Life," by Daniel Bergner, a biography about Ryan Speedo Green, an African American opera singer. Amazing! Touching.

Wow I'll have to see if my daughter knows about his bio Ruth I know she'd love that. She'll be doing her dissertation on the composer Clara Schumann who was married to Robert Schumann. Their story is tragic and touching and I've learned a lot about her just from listening to Erin.

The Schumanns are fascinating. You can hit most of the German composers of that era through the stories of their relationships. It was a very small world. As a singer, she would enjoy it for sure. Just as a musician and teacher, it was incredibly resonant for me.

I think the singer and the college professor in her would love it. Thanks again for sharing!

No reading for a few days for me, I've been catching up on my shows. The Walking Dead and Van Helsing. Only 4 more days of work and then I'm on HOLIDAYS!!! Looking forward to lots of reading and show watching (I'm getting season 1-5 of Once Upon a Time for Christmas) I also plan to give the house a cleaning overhaul. But I'm going to take it steady and do 1 room at a time.

Sounds like a plan Ang!
I've just been steadily getting ready did my baking last weekend, pumpkin chocolate chip bread, beer bread and shortbread cookies.
I really haven't had time to read anything other than my reviews. I did manage to get in Deb Cooke's Simply Irresistible and LOVED it!

I finally finished The Trouble with Humans over Christmas break. I then read Watch on the Rhine. I started another book, but I think I'm going to read one of the books my wife got me for Christmas. Probably start at the beginning with Bison Football: Three Decades of Excellence
2017 starts tomorrow, crazy I know!
Are there any particular books you're looking forward to reading in 2017?
I can't wait to read JR Ward's next installation of her Bourbon Kings Novel. I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood that she writes about and never thought I would like a non-fantasy by her, boy was I wrong.
Then there are a few from favorite authors that I always look forward to.

Hi there Anna, if you liked The Rosie Project, I'd sure give The Rosie Effect a go. Wraps the story up nicely!
I'm on a Liane Moriarty kick at the moment. Just finished "The Husbands Secret" which was okay. Now I've started "The Hypnotist Love Story" I'm completely sucked in on this one, don't want to put it down. Also Handsome Prince arrived home from seeing his Mother yesterday. The previous night he'd sent me a text message and asked what I was doing. So I sent him a message back of a picture of my book on my lap. He must have keen eyes, because he bought a copy of Liane's new book Truly Madly Guilty from the airport to bring home for me!

Ang, I think you'll like Truly Madly Guilty. I just finished it this morning and it's a real page-turner. Just be warned the details are revealed little by little by each character, but don't give up. There is closure in the end.
Tarheelgirl, one of Liane's other books "Big Little Lies" that I have already read, was the same as that. Details revealed little by little. I have another of her books also that when reading the back of the book, seems to be along the same lines. Must be a favorite writing style of hers! I'm alomost done with "The Hypnotist Love Story, really enjoying it!!
I'm just about finished with the audible edition of No One Knows by JT Ellison. All I can say is WOW if you get a chance to listen to it do it!

You're right. I've read that one too. It seems a lot of authors are using that writing style these days. I think it works for her.

Continuing on with my Liane Moriarty fix, Currently half way through "What Alice Forgot" really liking it! I gave my Mum, "Big Little Lies" and she finished it in two days! So I think Mum's going to be a fan also!
The last 5 books I've read have actually been books, rather than my ereader. I've really enjoyed holding an actual book, but I find my eyes feel tireder (not sure that's an actual word lol) than when I read on my ereader.
I'm reading a "real" book now too called "The Cellar." My husband picked it out for me for Christmas. Neither of us were familiar with the book or the author, but he thought I might like it. It's fiction, but it's similar to some of the true crime books I've read.
I too like real books best not only do I keep focus but post it flags and notes work better for me than e ones on my kindle :)
I'm in the middle of my April reviews, I'm listening to Big Rock by Lauren Blakely. Its such a fun romance read, the characters are a hoot!
I'm hoping to get Laura Griffin's upcoming release, At Close Range read between my RT reviews.

Wow can you believe its already the 21st of January, time flies!
I'm reading a "real" book right now too its an ARC of Lindsay McKenna's upcoming April release Wind River Cowboy. I really like this new series because she's featuring vets returning from the Middle East with sever PTSD some were homeless and all are at their wits end and she puts them on a working ranch in Wyoming. They're really good
