What are you reading
I'm reading Valedictorian: A Story of the Hidden Glory of a Troubled Life by Constance W Hall. I won it in a Goodreads giveaway. It's fiction, but based on the author's father. I'd really like to know how much of it is fact, because the main character struggles through a lot.
I'm reading Never Never by Candice Fox, also co-authored with James Patterson. Set in the outback of Australia and featuring tough as nails detective Harriet "Harry" Blue. The story started in one of the bookshot stories called Black and Blue. I'm almost finished and really am enjoying it! Then I plan to start "Don't tell mum I work on the rigs, she thinks I'm a piano player in a whore house"! Interesting title isn't it?! I got the book from a guy I work with, he said it was a riot of a laugh!
Ang, that's quite a title! I looked it up to make sure it wasn't a joke!
Yes I know Tarheelgirl, I thought Martin at work ( who gave me the book) was joking too, until I actuallly seen it for myself!
I'm about 85% done with DarkShip Thieves, I think it's awesome. The first part kind of reminds me of Captains Courageous, only set in space. The latter part sort of reminds me of The Count of Monte Cristo, or Peter's escape from Herrod in Acts 12. I'm hoping to finish it later this morning.
Well it sounds like everyone is having a great reading weekend.
Right now I'm reading my November contract reads and when finished hope to read Darynda Jones second Charlie book
Have a good weekend all!

Cracked open Murder at Naughton Pharms this morning at the car dealership waiting for a ride, but only got 3 sentences in before the driver showed up to take us back home (where I spent the next 3 hours cleaning the house because of company showing up today).
Going to start "Nero's Dream" by Deborah Cooke, this is #1.5 in her "Dragons of Incendium" series. I joined Deborah's Street Team a while back and have been doing some pre-release reviews on this series.
After that I'll be reading Wild Embrace by Nalini Singh, a collection of novella's from her Psy/Changeling Series.
Finished Devil Dead by Linda Ladd and getting read to start Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I am FINALLY going to read it!

Just started The Lost Swimmer, I bought it at a book sale earlier in the year. My Mum read it before me and thought it was excellent, i must say I don't see why yet, and I'm half way through the book.
Hope to finish The Replacement by Jason Pellegrini this weekend. It's turning out to be a really good book and I can't wait to see how it ends.

Happy Saturday Expats
I've turned in my December reviews and have a few for fun or promised to read before my next month's get here. I've picked up my copy of The Rosie Project and will start on the first section this week to be ready to start chatting about it a week from Monday.
What's going on with all of you?

We are in the midst of the eighth installment of ArtPrize, the world's largest art competition, right here in Grand Rapids, MI! I volunteer during the 19-day event quite a bit and so I haven't been reading much of late. I am done volunteering for this year, but now my husband has to leave town for work for a few days this week which is always an enormous pain in the neck. See you on the other side!
Best of luck, Ruth. I'm always happy for the peace and quiet when Handsome Prince goes away for work! But I don't have any children to wrangle! Only a fat furry cat! I'm currently reading "Elizabeth is Missing" by Emma Healey. It is great so far, I feel a great connection to the main character Maud. It's a bit upsetting at times because you feel so sorry for her. Interested to see where the story goes. (Tarheelgirl, I think you might like it also)

Ruth that competition sounds awesome. I hope you husband's trip isn't too long!

I just started the Rosie Project last night. Only about 5 pages in so far. But I'll be ready to start discussing next Monday.
I am reading Carrie by Stephen King. The original movie was recently on TV and it got me to wondering about the book, since I've never read it before. And I figured since it's October, it will be my "Halloween read."

Happy Saturday all
I can tell its fall when I itch to make a huge pot of soup or chili and bake all the goodies its too hot to in the summertime.
I just started The Rosie Project loving it!
When the weather turns cooler what do you like to do? Do your reading habits chance with the seasons?

Susan wrote: "I cant' beleive i am 4 books behind on my goal and its already the middle of Oct!!!!!!"You're not the only one. I started out strong, was +8 at one point. Then I hit a lull and fell to +6. Now I've completely stopped and am -8.
I'm over my goal, 113 books to date and my challenge was 90. Keep in mind though I read a fair few of James Patterson's bookshots, and these would only really be a 1/4 of what a normal book is in pages. But I also don't really watch Television, so a average person's Television time is my reading time as well.
Has anyone started their Christmas Shopping yet?
Ang from OZ wrote: "Has anyone started their Christmas Shopping yet? "My wife ordered one of our daughter's gifts the other day. Otherwise, no.
Susan wrote: "Christmas shopping are you crazy!!!"
I agree! Too soon for me!
I agree! Too soon for me!
My goal was 100 and I'm over it and that's not counting all the books I editorially review.
I think Ang and I were separated at birth because I don't watch TV and am always reading. These last couple of weeks has been hard because of painting and I will probably be late turning in this month's contract reviews.
And yes I've started my Christmas shopping, but really I'm never really not shopping for Christmas because if I know someone would like something I pick it up and if I see something during the year I think someone would like I buy it. I actually bought my daughter something last winter for this Christmas.

Me too Deb, I'm always on the prowl when shopping and if I see something for a bargain I think would make a good gift I get it. Definitely I think you and I are two peas in a pod! :)
I finally started reading some again. Short stories in the vein of 'Humans - F' Yeah', which basically just stories about how badass humans are compared to the other races in the universe, but it's light reading and fun.

Practicing hard for a concert tomorrow. Had to teach today since I am performing tomorrow. Busy week, as always. Can't wait until Thanksgiving next month!
Oops, accidental post! But I've been reading quite a bit. I am half-way through "Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew'd" book 8 of the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. I am also reading the Protector of the Small quartet by Tamara Pierce. I love her books, filled with strong female characters and magic. Good stuff!
I've just started Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, HBO are doing a TV series based on the book. Also re-reading Yasmine Galenorn's Chintz and China Mystery Series, I'm really enjoying the re-read of them. And I just received an arc of the next book in Deborah Cooke's Dragons of Incendium Series. So I'll need to get that read and email my review back to Deborah's assistant. But before I do any of the above I have to do the housework :( Bugger!

Good to hear Ang, I got Arista's Dream too plus the 5th in her Champion's of St. Euphemia historical romance series which I've locked and loaded on my kindle right now.
I finally got my reviews turned in and on time but it meant that I had to put off painting until next week, but the rooms aren't going anywhere so LOL.
I'd love to read Deja Who something that's been on my pile for a while and tackle some other titles there until I have to put my nose to the grindstone once again.

I haven't read a Flavia deLuce novel for a few years. I think its time to revisit her.

In NC, beer and wine is sold at grocery stores, Wal-Mart, convenience marts, etc., but the only place to buy liquor is the ABC store, run by the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission . Most people refer to it as the "liquor store." I remember walking down the aisle of a CVS or Revco in Kentucky and finding hard liquor. I was shocked, because you definitely won't find that in North Carolina! Nor will you find mom and pop liquor stores. We only have the ABC stores. For a long time I just assumed it was that way everywhere.
