I read "The Maze Runner" last week... And then "The Scorch Trials"... I'm not even sure if I want to read the final book in the series. It's pain, suffering and plot twists from nowhere, mediocre writing at best... Except there has to have been a purpose for the whole thing? I want to know what the purpose of the trials, but could really care less if any of the "Gladers" survive or not.

I really enjoyed the first book and movie, but the second book I didn't even manage to make it half way, plus the movie was just confusing and boring. I have given up on the series now, but I am curious as well as to what the is purpose of it all.

I watched the first movie, and I recorded the 2nd movie yesterday (Free HBO weekend) but haven't seen it yet. The first movie was 'Meh', but being free (a previous free HBO weekend) it was worth what I paid for it. I don't think I would ever actually buy any of the books or movies based off what I've seen. Same with the Divergent series (got the movies as a gift).

I finished "The Inquisitor's Key," and now I am going to read The Stepmother by Claire Seeber. While reading about "Silent Scream" on a blog, I ended up following a link to a post about "The Stepmother" and I have to admit, I got drawn in! I was surprised, though, since it just came out yesterday, that it was only $2.99.

It was a great book! I checked and the publisher is Bookouture. So far, I'm 2 for 2 with their books. Both The Stepmother and Silent Scream were awesome! Both were by British writers, and I read that Bookouture was started by a Harlequin UK former head of marketing. Most of their books are in the $2.99 to $3.99 range.

Started reading The Stepmother last night, I see Tarheelgirl gave it 5 stars. Not very far into it yet, but it seems like it's going to be good.

Also picked up a few of James Paaterson's book shots, it is a new venture he is trying out. Books are around 150 pages, and priced at $4. Perfect handbag books I reckon. I started reading one yesterday while waiting at the dentist. Most of the one's I picked up aren't written by Patterson, but other authors.

Tarheelgirl, I thought the stepmother was good, i didn't pick the ending that's for sure. The ending all happened in quiet a rush didn't it? A bit of the language used was lost on me, I'm not really up with the British lingo. I gave it 4 stars, because while it was a great read, i have read better thrillers this year.

I've read several of the British crime novels, so I've picked up on a lot of the lingo and actually find it sort of fun now. It did pick up speed near the end, but I liked the ending and was surprised.

Our new commercial manager here at work is from England, and I find he comes out with some strange phrases.
I suppose someone reading an Australian novel would have the same problem I had with the British one lol.

I love reading all the UK, Oz, NZ and the like on my Kindle because I simply hold my hand over the word and up pops the definition. I also love the taste of different areas when I read books from other countries.

Same here! I love that feature on my Nook! Before I was too lazy to get up and get a dictionary!

I don't have the updated dictionary on my main reading NST because I wanted to keep the page numbers in the table of contents. Most slang terms don't come up in the dictionary on my NSTG with the updated dictionary anyway.

I've been listening to The Bourbon Kings by JR Ward. Wow its really good. But her characters are over the top and could all easily fit in a Tennessee Williams role.

Next up I"m going to read The Matchmakers of Minnow Bay, it looks really good!

I don't want to give away spoilers.... so you'll have to dig in and read it yourself! My rating is 4 stars.

Because I must admit it was hard to get into the groove at first, because this is indeed written as a script. Not a 'Novel" writing style.

I was pleased with the story though on a whole. I think the stage show that the script/book is from would be wonderful to see! Don't think I'll be getting to London anytime soon though :(

I purchased two copies yesterday, but probably won't have a chance to dig in until later this week. I just finished 11/22/63 while I was on vacation out west, so the timing is great. My son is distracted by it away from what he's supposed to be working on, unfortunately, which is why I got him his own copy, so we can read at the same time this weekend.

I had to go to shops yesterday, and they have sold out of all their copies of "Harry Potter". Gee I'm glad I bought mine on Sunday!
We don't have a independent bookstore in my town anymore. So people rely on Big W and Kmart to buy their books, if they don't buy them online.

I haven't really shopped at Kmart since 1980 when Target opened up in town. But when I was a little kid it was the go-to store in town as the Sears pretty much only had clothes and tools, and the Wards had become just a little shop to pick up catalog orders. About the only time I shop there now is if I need something quick and am in the immediate area as there isn't much else around there.

Kmart has become very popular here in OZ, they have extremely affordable clothes and homewares. We don't have Wallmart in OZ, and Target here is very expensive, although it is better quality than Kmart.

Interesting, Ang! Walmart has planetary gravity in most communities, sometimes the only store in town.

My city is large enough to support many retailers, and is actually the world headquarters for another mega retailer, Meijer. Shopping, shopping EVERYWHERE!

Wal-Mart here is so big and spread out with too many agressive people pushing carts! And the checkouts are soooooo slow! Both Target and Kmart tend to be a much better shopping experience for me! Our Kmart is an older store, but is convenient and we really like their pharmacy.

My store of choice is Target because the experience is nicer than the cattle call that is Walmart, however now that I'm retired and living on a fixed income Walmart is one store that I do have to visit when I run out of certain things, like my britta filter is $10 at other retailers and $6 at Walmart, no brainer but gah never go on Saturday. I also love KMart but my favorite one is closing, why because they built a brand new Walmart next door.

What are everyone's plans for the weekend? Quiet one for me, I need some r&r after a crazy week at work. Just started reading "Flight from Mayhem" by Yasmine Galenorn, it is book 2 in her fly by night series. Been reading a few of James Patterson's bookshots as well, I've really enjoyed some and others not so much. I normally start one when I get home from work and finish it just before bed time, so I really love the short length of the bookshots.

I finished The Lake House by Kate Morton and now I'm reading Breaking the Story by Ashley Farley. Also the library called and I Let You Go is available, so I guess it's next on the list!

I hope to have a relaxing weekend. Don't have any particular plans, other than help mow the yard if the rain lets up.

I have the new book by the author of I Let You Go, think it's called I See You. I am hanging off reading it until early September, as I am having an operation then and will be laid up for about a week after. I will want something good to read so I'm saving it.

One of the things about living in ND that seems odd to me when we travel is the different configurations and products.

ND has a law that any pharmacy must be majority owned by a pharmacist(s). There are a couple of old White Drug (now purchased by CVS) stores that got grandfathered in, but the rest of the pharmacies around here are independent because none of the major chains is willing to go halvsies with a pharmacist.

Another one is alcohol can only be sold in a liquor store. When I used to work at the convenience store we always got people in from out of state looking to buy beer and/or hard liquor. More than once I directed someone to the bar next door (they also did offsale) only to have the person walk in the door on the other side of our building 'Where's the beer?'. Next door = next building must be a regional colloquialism, because they just didn't get it.

Ang, the weird people at Walmart is a real thing. I know people who go there just to gawk. Mostly I go in the middle of the night either on my way to work or coming home from work (another ND thing is that retail stores have to close Sunday mornings from midnight to noon). When I'm there it's mostly New Americans (immigrants), and teenagers/young adults strutting around. It's also when the local goths all come out.

I didn't get very far into DarkShip Thieves this week. Too much other stuff going on with little britches in swimming (miracle of miracles she passed level 2), and our anniversary, and fixing the widow on my car. I probably won't get very far into it this weekend either as I really need to finish editing those photos I was scanning so I can send everything back with my parents next weekend.

Kamas, I have relatives in Oklahoma that have those laws about liquor too, but that was a while ago things could have changed, and when I was working one of our clients was Brown Forman who has Jack Daniels under their corporate umbrella and at the distillery in Lychburg its a dry county so you can't legally buy it where its made LOL.

Right now I'm reading The Matchmakers of Minnow Bay, it's really good with lots of quirky characters in a small Northern town and a love story too!

We have our town's Parish picnic this Sunday so I'll be going there an my daughter and her fiancé are coming for dinner Sunday for Dan's 40th birthday dinner. Plus the usual cleaning, laundry and bathing the pooch! :)
