Susan, I saw that too! Definitely don't tap or click on "spoiler" and you should be okay!

Okay here's what I thought.
I knew who did it the minute Megan alluded to another man I don't know how I know but I did. It did keep my attention and the ending was satisfying. Her making her female characters so pathetic sort of kept your attention off the mystery.

The female characters were indeed pathetic! To the point of being too depressing.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Not much reading for me this week, I've been watching the Shannara Chronicles. Hoping to find some Terry Brook's books at the bookfest sale today!

message 1058: by [deleted user] (new)

Have fun at the book sale, Ang!

I'm hoping maybe my book will come tomorrow and I can get started reading it this weekend.

message 1059: by Ang from OZ (new)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I hope it arrives Tarheelgirl!

Did fairly well at the book sale, a few i got were...
The cuckoo's calling, jk rowling writing under a pen name, the collector by nora roberts, the lost swimmer by ann turner, leaving time by jodi picoult, the book thief by marcus zusak, plus a heap of paranormal romance, but most of those are part of a series and are book 5 or later so i will have to track down the first books in those. So many people there, and some of the rudest people i have come across in a long time. Pushing and shoving, i mean really!!!!

message 1060: by [deleted user] (new)

Ang, I want to read "Cuckoo's Calling" too. I really liked "The Book Thief" too! It is sort of strangely written, but in a good way once you get used to it. I read the book and then watched the movie--enjoyed them both!

I know what you mean about the crowds at the book sales. Because I work, it seems I always end up going on a Saturday and it's always crowded. Last year it worked out I was off work on a weekday during the sale, and it was fabulous! There were very few people there and I had some interesting book conversations with the volunteers. If I could only afford an early retirement.......

The one thing I really enjoy about retirement is not having to go places on the weekends, so much more pleasant during the week. I hope your book comes soon!

You don't have to retire to do that. Just work a non-traditional schedule. Sure, you never get to see your family/friends that work traditional hours, but you get to hit Walmart when there aren't as many people there, or see a matinee, you don't have to take time off to stop at the bank or DMV. ;-)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I started reading You You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes

Not too sure about it at the moment, the language is a little crude for my liking. But this helps with the creepiness of the main character.

Let us know what you think. I just read the description and it sounds good. I agree that some books can go overboard with the crude language.

Yes that's very true Tarheelgirl, one of the reason why I can't read Stephen King novels. I don't like his writing language.

message 1067: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 206 comments I attend to the George Carlin school regarding foul language. Words are only as powerful as you allow them to be. But I understand that is not the way many others feel and I will not use the language myself. I don't really care the words spoken, but rather the underlying intent.

With that being said, it may be hypocritical of me to find it really weird/ awkward hearing so-called bad words spoken by my 13-year-old. I don't yell at him for using them in my presence, but warn him that he may cause offense, and that he needs to understand his audience.

Maybe I will get my book soon and I'll let you know what I think. I left my name on the hold list and I've moved up to the #1 spot. Maybe the person with it now will be a fast reader! Either way, I'll read the one I get first.

Reading The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston and The Charm Bracelet by Viola Shipman .

I don't normally read two books at a time, but these books are completely different. "The Charm Bracelet" by Viola Shipman (aka Wade Rouse) is a family drama, while "The Ice Limit" by Preston & Child is an adventure/thriller.

Okay gang what's on your reading plate for the weekend, plus next weekend is a long holiday weekend for most of America are you traveling? How do you read when you travel, by device or print copy?

There's been some sad news on the RT Magazine Front like everything in print the last print issue will be July, the format will continue on in digital but they're eliminating the series which is most of my paycheck LOL oh well that's the way it is.

Have a great weekend!

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Sorry to hear that Deb. But unfortunately that's the way the world is heading. Suprising it has remained in a print addition for this long. This might mean more time for pleasure reading for yourself though?!

Thanks both of you
I hope it will mean more reading time it did this month
But I'm also going to propose some things to Harlequin and that might take it back again. :) Such is life!

message 1082: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry to hear your news, Deb, but maybe you can work something out with Harlequin to help fill in the gap. But having more time to read for pleasure is not a bad thing either! Good luck with whatever you work out!

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments I'm trying to get back into reading again. My bifocals aren't bothering me as much, but I'm still not completely used to them. I figured some shorts stories would be a good way to get back into the swing of things, so I've been reading a bunch of the Hugo nominated short works for 2014. Uffda, what dreck.

It is a heartwarming story with wonderful characters, especially Lolly! It's hard to put down. Also, keep the tissues handy--it's filled with a lot of touching memories!

Yes I thought that was a lot as well. Rarely do I see ebooks priced that high. I am happy to pay that for a author I know well, but it's too much for me to spend on a unknown.

Right now I'm reading a September release, the sophomore offering of Shannon Kirk and she's done a total 180 on subject matter. Her debut was called Method 15/33 Method 15/33 by Shannon Kirk
its a psychological thriller about a serial killer who kidnaps a teenaged pregnant girl who just so happens to be a sociopath. YIKES! This next book is called The Extraordinary Journey of Vivienne Marshall, The Extraordinary Journey of Vivienne Marshall by Shannon Kirk
its about woman who's barely hanging on to life in the ICU and she gets to choose which Heaven she goes to. Very good! But wow, right?

I plan to finish the The Ice Limit and No One Knows. Then I'm not sure what's next. If Beyond the Ice Limit is still available at the library I may read it next. If not, I may mix things up a bit and read a classic or grab something from my book sale stack.
