I finished it yesterday. It was a quick read about an African American girl who basically becomes a woman too soon and struggles with a lot of things, including domestic violence. And yes, the title is a doozy!

Sounds good. I think that one has been mentioned before here as a possible group read.

Yep sure was Tarheelgirl, I think it was Ruth who put that one forward for our last read. I have a preview added on my reader for it, it looks good.

Be sure to let us know what you think Ruth!!!

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments Recently started A Kiss of Blood. It's a little outside my normal wheelhouse, but I read the first one and enjoyed it for the most part. So I figured I might as well read the second since it was on sale a couple of months back.

Nothing at all wrong with a vamp read Kamas :)

Ruth | 206 comments "Dearly Devoted Dexter". I read the first book in the series years ago, before the TV show even began. Now that the book series is ending, thought I might catch on it audio-style.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I have started Ilona Andrew's "Kate Daniels' Series. Currently half way through book 2 "Magic Burns". Definitely Urban Fantasy in Genre.

I found the first book a little hard to get into, but I am loving book 2 now that I understand the dynamics of the world.

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews

Susan/Kamas, can't say I have ever heard the expression "wheelhouse" but I take it to mean not normal? Is that right?

Beautiful Mackerel Sky outside today. Old "bushies" have the saying "Mackerel Sky, won't be three days dry"

I just started a very lighthearted, cozy by PJ Brackston aka Paula Brackston who writes the wonderful witch books I love so much, but this series stars Hansel and Gretel who're now grown up and Gretel is a PI, very fun.
Gretel and the Case of the Missing Frog Prints A Brothers Grimm Mystery (A Brothers Grimm Mystery, #1) by P.J. Brackston

It's not the vampire part that is unusual for me, it's the sex involved in the story.

Ang, Wheelhouse is a baseball term (at least that's where I got it from) meaning the best place for a hitter to get a pitched ball to hit it as hard and far as possible. Basically, a hitter's favorite spot.

message 664: by Ang from OZ (new)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Kamas, baseball isn't a big sport in OZ.

message 665: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't realize wheelhouse was a baseball term. I just asked my husband, and of course, he knew!

Speaking of baseball, that's where I am headed tonight. We have a collegiate summer baseball league with teams scattered across the state. We usually try to catch a few games each season, and we waited almost too late this year. Mostly they play in historic stadiums and the crowds are usually pumped.

They're putting the finishing touches on the IKEA in St. Louis. It's opening in September or October. I think I'll wait until after the holidays to visit.

Still reading The Case of the Missing Frog Prints Gretel and the Case of the Missing Frog Prints A Brothers Grimm Mystery (A Brothers Grimm Mystery, #1) by P.J. Brackston should start on the Kristan Higgins If You Only Knew by Kristan Higgins later today.
Happy Weekend!

message 671: by [deleted user] (new)

Never been to an IKEA either, but would like to. We have one in Charlotte, which is a couple of hours away. Is it worth the drive?

message 672: by Ang from OZ (new)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments We have Ikea in Australia, none close to where i live, the closet is probably 10 hours drive. From what I know it is one of those stores you can't go into without buying something! :) Some of the even have restaurants! Wish there was one here in my town.

IKEA is the busiest restaurant chain in the world. Someone, somewhere is eating at an IKEA. Well-known for their Swedish meatball meal.

I LOVE those library book sales, Susan! We have one coming up here next month.

About half way through 1984 and am really enjoying it. It's hard to believe it was published in 1949 and Orwell died 6 months later. My husband read it again a couple of years ago, and he wants us to watch the movie after I finish the book. I hope our library has the DVD.

Well it's the weekend and August is coming to a close.
What are you all reading during these dog days of summer?

I'm just finishing up my required reading and my pile has grown substantially since last month. So during this break I'll be reading
La Shadow Fall (Tracers, #9) by Laura Griffin ura Griffin's October release
PJ Brackston's Once Upon a Crime A Brothers Grimm Mystery by P.J. Brackston
James Kaufmann's third in his much awaited trilogy The Conciliators by James J. Kaufman
Bradley Somer's Fishbowl A Novel by Bradley Somer
And if there's time before I have to pick up my December reads and because of my renewed interest in Outlander, Diana Gabaldon's A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander, #6) by Diana Gabaldon
The End Game (A Brit in the FBI, #3) by Catherine Coulter

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
