Wow, how did it get to be the end of June already. Right now I'm on a break from required reading and am gobbling up some want to reads.
Yes I read Grey by EL James, if you're not a fan don't read it if you are you'll be delighted.

Next on I'm reading the July release of Pam Jenoff's new historical WWII tale The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach by Pam Jenoff The Last Summer on Chelsea Beach
Next it's Miss Match by Laurelin McGee Miss Match
Then Welsh author Paula Brackston's next Lamp Black, Wolf Grey A Novel by Paula Brackston Lamp Black Wolf Grey
And if I have time before my October reviews start calling I always have more on my leaning tower of to be read books.

Then next week I'll be starting section one of The Martian for our July read here

What about you!

Lisa Higgins | 101 comments Has anyone read Kristin Hannah's new book The Nightingale? I love her books but it's a WWII setting and I'm not a big fan of that...

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Three books on the go for me, skimming my way through Outlander, and having an eye rolling read of Grey, Deb you will probably get tbe eye roll reference more than anyone else. You could say I am still not a fan of E.L James and the fifty shades phenomenon. And the last book a pleasant surprise, I got asked to do an advanced reading by the author.

I think the book's getting rave reviews and I have to be honest I love WWII settings :) good to see you!
When does your daughter's book come out?

I've never read any of her work, but I see she is referred to as 'the American Agatha Christie'. I'm guessing that description is mostly because she wrote mysteries at the same time as Christie. I do like Christie, so am looking forward to getting to those eBooks I downloaded from gutenburg

Finished Five Days in May by Ninie Hammon today. I really enjoyed it. It was fiction, sort of a paranormal and psychological suspense, and with even a slight inspirational undertone. I'll definitely read more of her books.

Ok reading fan(atic)s it's Friday whatcha reading this weekend?

I've just opened my first required read for the month I've been enjoying reading for pleasure for about two weeks but my tbr pile doesn't seem any lower :)

This weekend I'll be reading the scheduled part two of The Martian by Andy Weir The Martian and for my in person book club on Monday I'm reading The Girls of Atomic City The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II by Denise Kiernan The Girls of Atomic City

message 625: by [deleted user] (new)

Deb, let us know how you like "The Girls of Atomic City." It's in my to-read stack. My husband is planning to read it as well. I definitely plan to get to it soon.

message 626: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah... my weekend reading...

Started reading section two of The Martian by Andy Weir today. I'm getting hooked.

I am also reading Die Smiling (Claire Morgan, #3) by Linda Ladd Die Smiling by Linda Ladd. It's the third in the Claire Morgan series. She is a detective who always ends up with the most terribly creepy crimes. But she's incredibly sarcastic and funny, so that offsets the serious stuff. And there's just enough romance thrown in to make it a well-rounded series. This is becoming one of my favorite series!

message 627: by Kamas (new)

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments I read ahead on The Martian this week, so I probably won't crack open the last part until next week.

I did start The Bat by Mary Roberts Rinehart this week, so I'll probably finish that if there isn't a bunch of stuff to catch up on at work.

Oh i've read her TarHeelGirl, she lives in Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri it's a big tourist destination. I didn't know she had another book out. I'll have to see what all I've missed of her.
Thanks!

I think there's at least 7 in the Claire Morgan series, with another due out soon. I picked up the first one as a Free Friday and now I'm hooked. Wonder if she would be willing to participate in group read sometime?

I was trying to sort through my eLibrary, getting series in order, adding blurbs, etc. and what do you know? I came across Head To Head, the first of the Claire Morgan series. I guess I should get around to reading that some day.

message 632: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, definitely start with the first one. The series does keep building, but that has more to do with Claire's character. As far as the crime, there is closure.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Currently reading the first book in Yasmine Galenorn's new series. Flight From Death. I'm really enjoying it so far! I also got approached by another author this week to do an advanced reading of their book. Cold here tonight, think I'll go curl up in bed with my book, my warm blanket and my fluffy cat.

Hope to find some time to read the third section of "The Martian" this weekend. I'm also reading Her Sister's Shoes by Ashley Farley by Ashley Farley that I won in a contest on Deb's blog! So far, it's great!

message 636: by Kamas (new)

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments I didn't do much reading this week. I'm about 1/4 done with The Bat, and I'm done with The Martian, just waiting for the discussion.

My mother photocopied a bunch of pages from a church anniversary celebration from '63 that my grandmother had. She made notes about who we are related to and sent it them to me. It's hard to follow in places because she only photocopied about 1/3 of it. Still pretty interesting seeing old photos of relatives. And finding out that the priest at our church when I was confirmed was a newly ordained priest at the church 300 miles away at the time of the celebration.

Can't wait to discuss the novel further with you Kamas.
Ah the blast from the past, my mother recently cleaned out some closets and i'm now the happy recipient of several boxes of old photos. My daughter is hooked on Ancestry.com I think every time she gets a leaf she reacts like a lottery winner. I think it's the puzzle solving that appeals to her.

I'm into my October release reviews.

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I just finished "Hush Little Bird" by Nicole Trope, not 100% sure how i feel about it. A little disturbing at times, but written well. I hadn't read Nicole Trope before, but i have just downloaded another of hers that sounded good. Also finished "A Summer Like No Other" which i was asked to pre-read by the author. I really enjoyed it, and hopefully may be asked to pre-read the next in the series as well. Gloomy outside here today, perfect reading weather if you ask me!
