Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) Just in from Audible.com, it is one of the Editors Select February picks! Here is what it says:

"Pierce Brown seems to be travelling the same kind of journey as his characters – and I imagine producing a series this epic has at times felt like interstellar warfare. With each book the aims of the characters and the writer have grown in scope and ambition, but the narrative arc has been surprisingly elegant. If Red Rising was about military strategy and Golden Son was about politics, Morning Star centers on diplomacy. In its entirety this series is effectively a bildungsroman – but one that is thrilling and just so so cool. It’s one of, if not the most complex, intelligent, and satisfying sagas I’ve ever read or listened to. And perhaps the most astounding thing is how quickly Pierce Brown knocked these books out. If only all my favorite authors worked at this kind of clip, I’d be a very happy listener!" -- Emily, Audible Editor

AAAANNNNDDDD, the book is 21 hours 50 minutes long, not 13 hours as previously posted. It has 544 pages, making it longer the RR and GS. So psyched!

Meredith (merebooks) | 35 comments The fact that the book is longer makes me so happy. I wanted a longer book and we got it. Can not wait!

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 27 comments Same here. I'm really glad, because knowing Pierce Brown, I'm sure it's not just filler, but actual content what makes it longer.

Exactly. All the stuff that needs explaining, will be explained.

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) I remember when HP Deathly Hallows came out, fans were disappointed that it was only 750 pages. But it contained all it needed to tie up everything. I just want to make MS last as long as possible, because once it is done, it is done. It won't keep me from devouring the book tho. It just means I'll have to re read the series a third or more times.

Apparently Pierce has said he's looking into expanding the Red Rising universe. Possible that Morning Star won't be the last book in that world.

If this is true, you just made my year! I did not want the Red Rising series to end with just three books. This universe has so much more to it that I really want to see.

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) So true Meredith, but only if Pierce can do it justice, and I believe he has the chops!

Shut up and take my money ? hell yeah ! :-)

LOL

Brett Butler | 3 comments I think it would be cool if he wrote about a few of the other characters in their points of view through the Institute/their upbringing ... (Ex. Sevro and Fitchner, Mustang, even Ragnar.)
Or a side Story about the beginnings of the Sons of Ares and how it came to be...
It just makes me sad to think this adventure is coming to an end :(

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) Idk, sometimes less is more. I'd rather stay in love with the series as is, than to have the author keep going til I tire of it. Spin offs from TV series don't always do well, same holds true for most companion novels, imho. That been said, I would have been even happier if this series was a 4 book deal tho. LOL.

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 27 comments I'm with Denise on this. I feel like most spin-off books, companion novels, prequels, shorts stories within the same universe as a saga of novels, etc, are written mostly for sales than because there's more of the story to tell.

I'm not saying they're all bad, but I wouldn't wanna risk it with such a perfect story like this one. I don't want more of it just for the sake of having more. Feels like literary gluttony to me. I just want the story the author wants to tell, even if it breaks my heart to finish it and know there's no more.

That being say though, I'll definitely buy anything Pierce publishes next, being from the Red Rising universe or not.

David | 26 comments He just did an interview where he talks about some of his future projects, plus a little about the upcoming movie, and other stuff.

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) You said it better than I, Remy. And I'm dying to see if they publish a Graphic Novel version. I think Pierce said at some interview that someone was working on it. I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 27 comments Thanks for the link, David. It's a very interesting interview.

Especially this:
Hopefully, I’ll be starting up a new series soon, which I will also hopefully be announcing soon. I just want to keep basically pumping out stories.

Ohhh I can't wait to know what's coming after MS!

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) Wow, I think I learned more about the behind the scenes ideas behind the making of RR trilogy than with the Reddit AMA interview, or any other interview, for that matter.

I also had an epiphany. I love Pierce's writing style so much, that I found myself pausing many many times during certain passages just so I could absorb it fully. I did this a lot during RR/GS. I rarely if ever do that. I usually go back and re read something because I missed something, not to savor it. Pierce is different. After reading this article, I know why I did it.

Pierce says: "I read a lot of poetry. When I read poems, it’s much easier to then put my own thoughts into words simply because they have such felicity with language that I find it opened up floodgates in my own imagination."

Because Pierce writes like Poetry. I've often said his prose is seductive, deep, yet concise..... sounds like poetry to me!

David | 26 comments Completely agree. What I enjoy about Pierce's writing is not just his use of descriptive phrases ("Eo is like the air ... "), but what he chooses to focus on and when. When Eo is hung PB focuses on her red hair floating in the air for a brief moment. The very last line of the chapter where Eo dies is the line "And the Golds, they fly away." His choice in what to describe and when adds so much emotional depth; it makes total sense that he studies poetry.

I love writing that has distinctive style and prose and have been disappointed that even a lot of sci fi classics like Dune don't really have any. Philip K Dick is great, but most sci fi and fantasy authors I've seen simply show you the story but don't make you feel it. For me, that's the best thing about the Red Rising trilogy.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Pierce's technique grows and matures over time.

Denise Alcaraz (inkshoe) It's all about character development for me. If I don't fall in love or hate for the characters, it's all downhill. I can forgive a little poor world building, but not flat main characters. If I find myself thinking about the MC well after the book is done, that says something to me. Before I got to part III in RR, I KNEW I'd reread. It was his writing and character development that did it. I just couldn't fathom this series ending up bad after that.
