This is a book about a snake that's very hungry, so he wants to count ten mice to eat, he counts each mouse and puts them in a jar. Once he has all ten mice, one of the mice distracts the snake and says theres still one left. After the snake leaves all the mice work together and escapes the jar. I think this would be a little inappropriate for children because the whole story says the snake is going to eat all the mice, and it’s a little too much for children. It may be a good book to read if you’re trying to teach counting numbers. The illustrations also go very well with the text. It could be a book that children learning how to read on their own could read.
Book #2 Pirates Love Underwear
I feel like this would be a little hard for young children to understand, there are a lot of big words, also some phrases that they may not understand. The images are very bright and would be appealing to the child’s eyes, but it may be too hard for them to comprehend.
Book #3 The Mitten
This is a story about a boy who's grandma makes him a pair of mittens and when he loses one in the snow, many different animals see it and all pile in to live in the mitten. I think this would be a good book to read in groups (the whole class). It is pretty long, but I think you can get the student engaged by naming the animals, or predicting what will happen next in the story.
