SOLVED. YA novel with a bear and a boy on an island [s]

The boy had done something very bad, I don't remember what exactly but it involves another boy. His options were to go to jail? juvie? or to go to some native american circle thing so he chooses the latter and they send him to an island to learn his lesson and how to control his anger and all that. Pitches a fit and when he sees a white bear he pisses it off somehow and it injures him and as he lays on the ground broken and hurt he realizes some stuff about himself and after it happens he starts to work on things and not act like such a bratty jerk.

I don't remember a whole lot else, I read it in like 2008? at my school library and really liked it so any help finding it to read again would be most appreciated.
