ABANDONED. Mod Lit 90s Love Triangle but not Romance

Started reading this in 1996 or 1997, in hardback, but had to give it back to lender. I never finished it and would love to find it again! It wasn't a romance, per se, but there was a love triangle of sorts at the center, from memory. I believe the main character was a woman, and there was a man and another woman involved. It was a bit dark and brooding, I think. I remembered it being quite a large book, well written. I really don't read romances, so I would resist using that as a genre to categorize this one. It was most likely written 1993-1996 and I believe the author was a woman. I really wish I could remember more about it as this description is quite vague. Any tips would be much appreciated. I could at least then read summaries and see if any memories of details are sparked. Thank you for reading!
