Shirley J (fastreader) Scoring:

I read One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey by Sam Keith and Richard L. Proenneke

5 points Title: Number in title = One = 1 + 4
10 points Author: e + i +o = 5 + 9 + 15 = 29. 2+9 = 11+2 = 13
3 points Cover: yellow, blue, green
1 point Pages: 224
6 points Bonus: bacon+3, airplane+3
25points Total

message 102: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments You're going to hate me, Joan, but....

Title - 6+1+3 = 10; 1+0=1 (reduce to a single number)
Author - McNally is a, or 1
Cover - not a seal, that is a route sign image. I'm looking for a seal like the Newberry Children's Award seal.
Bonus points: "You'd be as filthy as a pig" is a description, not a pig.

So your score:
Title - 1
Author - 1
Cover - 5
Cover - 3
Cover - 2
Pages - 4
Bonus points - 6
Total - 22 points

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments You're going to hate me too, Shirley!

Title
a. 1
c. 3 (only 3 word title - subtitles don't count)

Author
a. e + i +o = 5 + 9 + 15 = 29. 2+9 = 11. 1+1=2
c. 2

All the rest of yours is correct.
Total revised score: 18

message 104: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Just a reminder that your title and author score needs to be reduced to a single digit.

message 105: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice - Joan's number for the title should be 10. Her number is 61, so 6+1=7 . Then she gets 3 for three words in the title. The way she posted is looks funny, but is correct.

message 106: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Re Shirley's author's name score.
First author = 14, 1+4=5
Second author = 30, 3+0=3
Together, their names = 8
You did not specify if we should use both author's last names if there were actually two authors vs an editor and multiple names like in an anthology.

Then she gets 2 pets for two authors.
So - either her author score is 7 or 10.

Thanks Cherie. I was looking at Joan's "Title: 6+1+3 = 10"

I didn't realize she was adding part b to part a.

message 109: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Joan and Shirley, would you please re-score your books listing each scoring item separately. It would make it so much easier for me.

Shirley, Go ahead and score for two authors. I thought I'd mentioned it somewhere in the challenge thread, but I'm not sure if it's clear.

Please let me know when you've rescored.

You mentioned it in the other challenge thread, I asked the question a week or so ago :) Your answer then was to count only the last name of the first author. Should I recalculate my score including all authors? And if so, do I count vowels of all last names and make that into one digit, or do I do the first author first, then the second, etc., adding those four scores up (I have 4 authors) and reduce that to a single digit? Not sure if it even makes a difference..

message 117: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I'm really sorry, Peggy. I'm making a real mash of things. This cold is really playing havoc with my head. Go ahead and change your score to include all the authors -

total it author 1 + author 2 + author 3 + author 4 = total, then reduce to a single digit.

Please let me know what your amended total is.

Question does a hog count as a pig? if so add 3 pts

So total score:

Bonus points - 6 or 9 depending on hog decision
Total - 31 or 34 points

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Janice wrote: "Did you enjoy your book, Connie? I've always been a bit reticent to read Jody Picoult."

Janice, Nineteen Minutes focuses on some important social issues. I was afraid that Jodi Picoult was going to be too chick-lit, but the book is a well-developed look at bullying from the perspective of the child who has been bullied since kindergarten and finally explodes in a violent school shooting. I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into the novel, and it reads really fast.

No problem, Kelly. Find the thread that says Wall of Fame or use this link. (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...) and look under any of the names listed. Badges are like "good work" stickers. Everyone's wall is different depending on what challenges and group read items you completed. You can see the badges best if you are on-line. They don't show well in the apps, at least not on my iPod app. Here is the link to mine. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
