Joe (joemaysky) Hey Folks,

Finishing up Passenger by Alexandra Bracken and deciding what to read next based on stuff I already have. In the mood for something a little darker and mysterious next. Here are my ideas:

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman (not sure if this counts for YA, sorry if not!)

Thanks for your help in advance!

Joe

Katherine I'm currently reading Illuminae. It's a pretty cool book with a cool format. You should try it. I don't think it's very "dark" but still good. Out of your ideas I say you read Truthwitch.

Madelyn Rose | 19 comments Right now, I am reading the book Every Last Word and I really am enjoying it. It is a somewhat new young adult book. I recently ordered books from Barnes and Noble that seem really good and I would like to suggest.

*Red Queen
*Illuminae
*This is Where it Ends
*Never Always Sometimes

Hope that helped!

Booked | 17 comments Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor is amazing! I'd recommend that one all day long! Miss Peregrine and Ocean are very good, too, but I'd say go for DofS&B first.

Joe (joemaysky) Thanks all! Still haven't made my mind up but I will also be checking out Every Last Word as I'd like some contemporary after one or two I've listed. Thinking D of S&B followed by Truthwitch or vice versa.

Kari (BookandCoffeeLover) (clear_tranquil) | 6 comments Miss Peregrines! Brilliant book!

Joe (joemaysky) Hey folks!

Finished Daughter of Smoke & Bone and loved it, but I wanna do a stop gap between it and Days of Blood & Starlight. Still keeping Truthwitch and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children on the list, here are 5 more ideas:

The Martian by Andy Weir (aware it's technically adult)
The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma
The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry

Leaning toward The Love That Split, The Sky is Everywhere or The Walls Around Us, but feel free to persuade me. Also slowly working my way through City of Bones and will be buddy reading Every Last Word next month.

Thanks again!

Zach | 18 comments I am reading The Martian right now and to be honest it might be one of my all time favorite books and I haven't even finished it.

message 11: by Joe (new)

Joe (joemaysky) Hey All! It's narrowed down to 3 with one choice I didn't list yet:
The Love That Split the World (Emily Henry)
The Martian (Andy Weir)
We Are the Ants (Shaun David Hutchison)

Nancy Tran | 6 comments Have you read either of Jenn Sadai's books? I liked them very much. Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman and Dirty Secrets of the World's Worst Employee

message 13: by J (new)

J If you decide on The Martian, I strongly suggest you listen to the audiobook. The narrator really makes the story that much better, and it's already a great story to begin with, so that's saying something.

I Have not but will look into them some time this year! Right now I'm sticking to the ones I've listed, but thank you for the suggestion.

Drake Whire (kritanta) | 8 comments u should read The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson b/c it sounds good from the title...

message 16: by Jane (new)

Jane Jackson (janejackson91) | 9 comments Next on my list is "The Martian", but I'd also recommend "Once Bitten, Twice Die" by Antony J. Stanton, esp if you are in the mood for something a little darker.
Once Bitten, Twice Die by Antony Stanton
Once Bitten, Twice Die
Failing that, "Station 11" by Emily St John Mandel
or The Historian, by E. Kostova

Puput (pupuutc) | 37 comments If you want to read something dark, you should definitely check this one : The Young Elites trilogy The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1) by Marie Lu The Rose Society (The Young Elites, #2) by Marie Lu The Midnight Star (The Young Elites, #3) by Marie Lu

Also, A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo have some darkness but not too much.
