I am too poor to buy all the books I don't end up reading all of.. Waiting is fine. I can borrow 4 a week for free. Always luck into at least one good one, as they always buy the shortlisted ones.

Lesley, I'm an avid library user, too. I always check the library before I buy a Daily Deal. $3 3 times starts to add up and then I often never get around to the book. My TBR list is filled with purchased deals where my interest in reading them has declined or been supplanted by newer titles.

Never mind , $6.00 for the privilege. However, as its totally free for the EBOOKs, this suits me. Horses for courses.
Currently listening to ABC- RN interview with an OZ author who I don't enjoy reading, contrary to " Meet the Australian novelist who has sold six million books".. Liane Moriarty Truly Madly Guilty at the Melbourne Writers Festival.. Apparently this book is optioned by Reece Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman...to be a film..Oh well as I said 'Horses for courses'...
More from the Melbourne writers festival : Nadia Hashimi A House Without Windows sounds interesting..

Just heard a feisty, funny, furious, interview with the author of Fight Like A Girl , Clementine Ford.. The interviewer had to give an anticipated 'language warning' ...Her take on the US Hillary v Donald debate was possibly defamatory... Clem was recently on a TV panel and received some dreadful hatemail, including a tweet saying she was too ugly to be raped. Clem found him on FB, and sent a screenshot of the tweet to his employer.. His contract was terminated which caused another barrage of advice (keep your head down, die, etc.)...A pleasure to hear, will order her book.

Listening to my ABC RN 'Books and Arts' this book Skylarking by the author Kate Mildenhall sounds really good.
Lesley wrote: "Listening to my ABC RN 'Books and Arts' this book Skylarking by the author Kate Mildenhall sounds really good." I put it on my books-to-watch list.

I enjoyed it. Interesting era, well written. Easy read.
Another one I have just heard about : http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/p...I first heard this called "The Vanishing Man", but understand why Laura Cumming has changed it for the US market The Vanishing Velázquez: A 19th Century Bookseller's Obsession with a Lost Masterpiece
Sounds really interesting.
I saw a book on sale listed on BookGorilla, All Souls' Rising about a slave uprising in Haiti in the 1700's. Has anyone read it? It's an older book and seems to be a love or hate book based on GR reviews. Fortunately, my library has a digital copy so I don't need to buy it and feel guilty because I never get to it. I put it on my library wish list.

Just heard this on RN, and Michael Cathcart said it was 'marvellous'..Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer . Very high praise from the presenter of Books and Arts.
Lesley wrote: "Just heard this on RN, and Michael Cathcart said it was 'marvellous'..Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer . Very high praise from the presenter of Books and Arts."I've heard good things about it, also, Lesley.
Oh dear The Children's Book is enormous, so will have to wait for the EBOOK.The Light Between Oceans I've already previously read and enjoyed.
3 out of 5 aint bad.. Commonwealth , The Schooldays of Jesus and The Infatuations all brand new.. How blessed..
EBOOK of The Children's Book has arrived. I tried and failed to read all of The Schooldays of Jesus by one of my favourite authors J.M. Coetzee.. The Infatuations seemed more a display of his own personal philosophies, maybe to impress his own father? , and Commonwealth was another big disappointment by a favourite author. Felt like the whole manuscript had been dropped by the new girl, and handed on as they were picked up (No of course that can't happen in this digital age...hehehe).
OK on a more positive note, I was recommended this one by Elyse :The Sleepwalker's Guide to Dancing and am nearly finished having read it all!!. REALLY enjoying it.
Other EBOOKS awaiting are: The Accidental by Zadie Smith
The House by the Lake: A Story of Germany
ABC RN Books and Arts are interviewing Maria Semple and I might now try Where'd You Go, Bernadette , as she is talking about her new book Today will be different..

I bought Where'd You Go, Bernadette as a Daily Deal a couple years ago and then saw several meh reviews so have never picked it up. I'll be watching to see what you think.

It takes a while for my requests, but I will ask for the Where'd You Go, Bernadette but I seldom find this style is as funny as promised. Perhaps (really?) I have a different sense of humour.

It reads like a ya or children's chapter book but I enjoyed it. My bookclub did too.
I am enjoying an interview on Books and Arts with Hannah Kent about her new book The Good People. Apparently her first novel Burial Rites, is about to go into movie production. Another great OZ writer, IMHO.
Blueberry wrote: "Denizen wrote: "Lesley wrote: "ABC RN Books and Arts are interviewing Maria Semple and I might now try Where'd You Go, Bernadette , as she is talking about her new ..."I'll keep it on the TBR for when I want a quick light read.

I have a GR friend reading her newest so will be watching to see what she thinks. I was impressed with Burial Rites.

It was only hearing her today, that I realised. Grr.... heard another one, yesterday, but forgot to look it up.. Hope it comes back to me. AHH will look at the ABC website. LOVE this era!!
SOOOO annoying .. GR seems to lose some of the comments I write, here.. The Stella Prize and Miles Franklin lists, must also have missed her. Burial Rites, or I missed them...
Found it !! My ordering of EBOOKS is tantamount to asking if they will consider adding it to the State Library of Queensland's central catalogue/ Queensland Regional OverDrive Consortium ...Sometimes it takes MONTHS and sometimes, a few weeks. I get an email when available.

Baffled .. The Zookeeper's Wife: A War Story has been recommended to me, but as I couldn't 'find' it on Overdrive, asked my contact to add it manually. This is her reply: "Hi Lesley,
The Zookeeper's Wife is only available from OverDrive in German. I have also checked Wheelers but they do not have the title either.
I am sorry I am unable to assist on this occasion.
Kind regards,
Jenny

This morning I got emails for these books now available to download in the next 3 days, and then there are 21 days to read them.. (Why do they all come off 'hold', together ?? )The Radiant Way by Margaret Drabble
The Book of Evidence: The Freddie Montgomery Trilogy, Book 1 by John Banville
Bright Air Black by David Vann
Hag-Seed: The Tempest Retold by Margaret Atwood
Salt Creek by Lucy Treloar
Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon
Nevermind, now that they are in the catalogue can always put on hold another time, if I don't get to read them in time.
Like winning the lottery!!

It's amazing how that can happen, isn't it?
and another two just came through : The Couple Next Doorby Shari Lapena and The Atomic Weight of Love by Elizabeth J Church..
It now means that they are all in the Overdrive EBOOK catalogue, and if I'm not in the mood, now, they will always be there.
