This books sounds good Fishface! I just copied and pasted it in my new true crime list. I keep getting notices here in Goodreads and people send me posts saying they like my review I posted. The problem is I don't even have the book Goodreads has shown me to be reading or previewing! What is up with that? **yikes*

The author sent me one of the chapters (about the death of Vincent van Gogh and why the forensic evidence speaks for homicide, not suicide) for a blog post book review. I was impressed with the quality of the evidence and the analysis. True crime books with a solid forensic basis are oh-so-much more compelling.

How sad. I'd love to read a book about women who have escaped from serial killers. We could all learn something from them.

I think Melanson was one of the murderers featured in Steve Jackson's last book, "No Stone Unturned." I'm guessing he decided to expand that chapter into a book and it hasn't been released yet. Have you checked the website for Wild Blue Press?

Yes! That and the fact that I used to live in Seattle and had a hairdresser there who swore up and down that she had once escaped Ted Bundy. Her story made the hair on the back of my neck rise. (Maybe it was easier to cut it that way.)

He drives me mental by picking out these incredibly interesting cases and then just sort of skimming over the top of them. I remember slamming shut my copy of Body Dump because at the sentencing, where he was apparently sitting and watching, he reported that the sentence was lightened "due to some mental issues." He never told us what mental issues they found at the killer's evaluation. He also tantalized the reader with a description of the incredibly filthy, cluttered house he lived in -- so dirty his family did not notice the 8 bodies salted away everywhere in Hefty bags -- and didn't give us a whisper of information about them, either. I really could have gone and found him and administered a good shaking.

Thanks for your answer! I haven't read Fred Rosen yet, but I'm about to. I'll be interviewing him about his newest book for a blog post and the publisher is sending me a review copy. I hope I have a better experience with it, and if not, I'll have to ask him some questions!

I'm confused. Honestly, the way Goodreads sets up their discussions its hard to tell what goes with what. Rosens book looks like its about several case histories but then your post says its about Garfield. I read the reviews and they are mostly negative. I would like to check out the book to see what it says about Garfield. According to history, they were not able to remove the bullet that was in his spine and he died from infection because there was no such thing as an antibiotic in those days. I would be interested to find out how this equates to murder or manslaughter.
