P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Biography

Award-winning author P.D. Workman writes riveting young adult/suspense fiction about mental illness, addiction, and abuse.

For as long as P.D. Workman can remember, the blank page has held an incredible allure. After a number of false starts, she finally wrote her first complete novel at the age of twelve. It was full of fantastic ideas. It was the spring board for many stories over the next few years.

P.D. Workman is a devout wife and a mother of one, born and raised in Alberta, Canada. She is a homeschooler and an Executive Assistant. She has a passion for art and nature, creative cooking for special diets, and running. She loves to read, to listen to audio books, and to share books out loud with her family. She is a technology geek with a love for all kinds of gadgets and tools to make her writing and work easier and more fun. In person, she is far less well-spoken than on the written page and tends to be shy and reserved with all but those closest to her.

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Permafree

Deviation (Breaking the Pattern, #1) by P.D. Workman

Deviation is free at Amazon and other retailers. It is the first book of the Breaking the Pattern series.

“You’re a good kid, Henry.”

Everyone knew that he was a good guy; geeky, responsible, hard-working. Henry has had a lot to deal with in the past. Now, as he should be focusing on his schooling and preparing himself for the future, he is hindered by abuse, the challenge of raising his baby brother while dealing with his mother’s deep depressions, and the return of a ghost from the past Henry has tried his best to forget.

But it seems that Henry can’t avoid the nastiness of life. As hard as he tries, it’s one more disaster after another as his life spirals out of control.

Can Henry escape the darkness, or is he doomed to be consumed by it?

-- I was caught up in the twists and turns of the plot from the beginning of Deviation and was still surprised at the end.

-- This book could actually happen. That is what makes it so scary! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. I am thoroughly intrigued and want to see what happens next.

-- “Deviation” will play on your emotions and feed your doubts as you follow Henry through his many troubles and trials.

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Homeschool/Classics

As well as writing and publishing my own books, I also edit, annotate, and publish classics.

We live in an amazing time, with millions of books available at the click of a button. You probably know that there are hundreds of literary classics available through Project Gutenberg and many other sources.

You may have downloaded some of these books in the past for your own enjoyment, a book club, or your homeschool curriculum. You may have experienced frustration trying to figure out how to side-load one of these books onto your Kindle or Kindle App, only to find that the formatting was wonky or there was no table of contents for navigation.

Even books purchased through Amazon or the Kindle store might have disclaimers that the book might have imperfections such as poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. Or alternatively, they might have been produced relying solely on Optical Character Recognition and therefore include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters.

If you're reading a classic, you may find that you need to look background information or archaic words up or search for discussion questions for your book club or extension activities for your home education curriculum.

I have tried to overcome some of these issues for you by curating a selection of classic reads. I have read, proofed, and annotated each book. While I won't claim that they are perfect, (please let me know if you find any mistakes!) I have done my best to produce a quality product for you.

My classic publications are available in Kindle or paperback format and are currently divided into:

Workman Classic Schoolbooks

Books specially selected for your child's literature studies, designed with curriculae like Charlotte Mason or Thomas Jefferson Education in mind. These books incorporate features like background, footnotes, vocabulary, comprehension questions, extension activities, and biographies. I have a special place in my heart for literature of interest to boys, so expect to see some high-adventure books included.

Dave Dashaway The Young Aviator or, in the Clouds for Fame and Fortune
Dave Dashaway and His Hydroplane: A Workman Classic Schoolbook
Dave Dashaway and His Giant Airship: A Workman Classic Schoolbook
Dave Dashaway Around the World or, A Young Yankee Aviator Among Many Nations
Dave Dashaway Air Champion or, Wizard Work in the Clouds

The Complete Aerial Adventures of Dave Dashaway
The Complete Aerial Adventures of Dave Dashaway by Roy Rockwood

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions
Flatland A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott

Workman Family Classics

Books selected and designed for families to read aloud together. These books include many similar features to Workman Classic Schoolbooks, but may also include features such as daily reading schedules, companion scripture verses, and open-ended questions designed to promote family discussion.

A Christmas Carol (Annotated): Special 24-Day Advent Reader

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) Interview Questions

Describe your favorite scene in your book and tell us why it's your favorite.

Oh, there are so many of them. It's hard to pick. Today, let's say it's the big reveal scenes in Stand Alone, when Justine finally understands the secrets of her past and can be reconciled to what happened to her. I can't say too much, because I wouldn't want to spoil it!

Which of your characters, do you relate to the most (or) who is your favorite character and why?

I really do like writing villains. The mom in Those Who Believe. Glock in Tattooed Teardrops. People always say 'I can't understand how anyone could do something like that..." But I can...

“Story” has always been the center of all human cultures. We need it. We seek it out. When we lack it, we invent it. What does “story” mean to you?

It's an escape from my life, a way to understand the world, a way to share my viewpoint... A good story is so much more than plot and characters.
