Sara | 1294 comments Good morning Raiders!

I've just finished my cold book La città dei ladri by David Benioff and I'm going to update the spreadsheet :)

Hope I've done it correctly!

Yep.

We got 25 points!

Wooohoooo

Uhmmm, that means it is time I look into the general spreadsheet... Or maybe I'll wait till tomorrow. LOL

message 104: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Isn't it a bit too early to have 25 points already? :D just one book read per detour and all these points, that would be cool! LOL

Just be glad it wasn't me doing the rules!

I'm the evil one *giggles*

Sara | 1294 comments Are you telling me *you* had the idea of those nasty pet names tasks, for example? :D

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Sara wrote: "Are you telling me *you* had the idea of those nasty pet names tasks, for example? :D"

No. No pets. Nothing that starts with a letter either. No names.

For gladiators mine are easy to spot... either taken from the Harry Potter challenge or from some of the SRA group challenges... or things like "necromancer", "imp", "ninja"

LOL

for tower teams the Listopia lists and the first page of top shelves... those are mostly my doing

message 108: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Sooooo, even Travel Agents made mistakes

*puts "In Training" tag visible*

So... after some reading:

--A detour requires at least 4 members of the team to complete that goal before the detour is considered complete.

*runs to update spreadsheet*

message 109: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Sonia, I don't think it was a mistake - I think you were just seeing the future!

I should have my cold book done today. We are going out of town, so I won't be able to update on the spreadsheet, but I'll post it here, and update the spreadsheet tomorrow evening when we get home.

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments The first page of top shelves goals drove me crazy, checking each book, the ones with older years were horrible.

message 111: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh I think we get bonus points too right? If like 7 of us read a cold book?

message 112: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I have my cold book finished just need to sort it. Do we need a shelf for this one ?

It's not needed. It only makes tracking easier. Or if you prefer to know which books are used to what challenge :)

message 115: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments Ok I have read a very short book set at North Pole, only 53 Pages. I have longer ones that fit if that would be better.

It fits. No page limit :D

message 117: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I finished my cold book - brrrr..... I should have read it (The Call of the Wild) aloud to my dogs - they sure have it good next to Buck (the dog in the story).

message 118: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Go Team, we rock! :D

message 119: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 294 comments Morning everyone :) I was wondering if we should select our other four detours in advance? Or just pick as we go along?

I tried having a look the next goal in the uk seems like a pretty easy to read by place or author. Then there's gassim in Saudi Arabia which we could get maximum points on the spell it out with six reading the letters and two reading any book. Or of course if you wanted to read about Saudi I could recommend some books as since being here I've been trying to read lots of Saudi books.

I thought goal 4 would be a good detour. A book title starting with 'the'.

And that's as far as I got.

As mentioned before I am very flexible and should be able to contribute to anything the team picks.

message 120: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 294 comments Haha and I realised I should get reading instead of planning so far ahead.

Well done to those who have already read their books!

message 121: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Planning is important too - and I like your ideas! I agree that the UK is a nice place/author one to do - I'd definitely vote for that. And you are right - we shouldn't pass up the "The" detour.

Thanks for thinking about that stuff! What do the rest of you think about our future travels?

message 122: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Yes, I think UK is easy to read author/place

Gassim: we can do spell out (although I am quite interested in Saudi books as I've never read anything from there!!)

Russia: I think I'd prefer a detour here

India: I have a book set there that I'm reading for another challenge, but happy to go with whatever the group decides

Australia (aka home): loads of books I can read from here :)

NZ (my former home): I don't know many authors or books set there, so I would assume we do a detour as the spell out is quite a lot :)

Brazil: don't know many authors or books set there, but we could spell it out or do a detour.

I guess as a detour gives us the most points, we'd do those for places we aren't sure about?

I'm hoping to finish my cold book later tonight (it's 10pm here now). I only got about 2 hrs reading done today, we had visitors all day :) My book still has about 100 pages to go, I hope to report back tomorrow with a finished book :) This one could also go for the UK place one if we have enough people for stop #1 already.

message 123: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Good morning everyone :)

I think it is a nice idea to plan our next 4 detours in advance.

I took a peek at my TBR and didn't find any books for detours 6,7 and 8 - respectively Australia (yellow, orange or golden dress on the cover), New Zealand (mobile phone on the cover) and Brazil (book shelved as romantic-suspense) - despite I found out that most of the books from the In Death series are tagged as romantic-suspense.

UK seems pretty easy to read both author place, but I also have a book whose ISBN qualifies.

Regarding Gassim I do not have much books set in SA, but I'm open for suggestions from Ellen if needed :)
Same for stops 5 and 8 as I usually don't read many central-south American / Indian authors or books set there.

Also for stops 4 and 5 (Russia and India), it would take me awhile to search for those detours as I have to look up for the English translation of each book since I mostly read in my mother tongue (Italian). But this is very personal :)

However, I'll go with the majority, so anything we decide in the end it's fine to me!

Chava | 1522 comments I can't edit the spreadsheet on my iPad. Could someone add Five Get into a Fix as either a cold book (winter in Wales) or can be used as set in UK. 200 pages
Thank you

I'm on it :)

message 126: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4253 comments I'm not really one to plan ahead what I'll be reading, so knowing in advance if I'd rather read a book with a certain letter or corresponding to one of the detours is difficult. So I'll go with whatever you choose.
I can only tell you that I'm not good with finding book with specific settings.

message 127: by Grace (new)

Grace (Calcat) | 665 comments I am happy to read whatever works best.

I think it will be easy to much easier to read a book set in UK than sort through for that detour.

Australian author is easy for me, anything by N.R. Walker and I am happy :)

message 128: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Sounds like for the next stop we'll read something set in the UK/by a UK author? I'll plan on that unless I hear otherwise. I know I have TONS I want to read that fit - ha the one I want to read the most is like 600 pages, so I either need to get busy or change books :)

I agree.

I'm in the minority here, since romantic suspense is quite easy for me, so, I'll go with the flow.

I also have the watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko on my list, so Russian setting or Author I can do, if we go that way, although that's the easier detour of all.. so...

Oh... since we need to stay at least a week in each stop, We better to add the starting date on the spreadsheet.

message 131: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments Sonia wrote: "Oh... since we need to stay at least a week in each stop, We better to add the starting date on the spreadsheet. "

So do we need to wait until February 3rd to start our books set in UK/by a UK author for next stop?

message 132: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I'm almost positive the rules say whatever books we started reading after the challenge start can be used for the challenge.

Sara | 1294 comments Suzanne wrote: "I'm almost positive the rules say whatever books we started reading after the challenge start can be used for the challenge."

I hoped so but I wasn't totally sure. Thank you, Suzanne :)

I was wondering also because I'm currently reading a book set in Australia and by an Australian author, so it would be definitely great if we decided to use it for stop 6!

message 134: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 294 comments Suzanne wrote: "I'm almost positive the rules say whatever books we started reading after the challenge start can be used for the challenge."

I am pretty sure I read that books can be banked and any book after the start date can be used for any task.

also I completed my book for the cold task

Yes, they can be used anytime. We just can't mark them whilst still in another stop.... Not sure e if I'm making sense since it's 1AM

message 137: by Sara (new)

Sara | 1294 comments It makes perfect sense, Sonia :)
It's 2am here too, so I'm heading off to bed now. Nightie night!

message 138: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Romantic suspense is easy for me too but I like reading everything (almost) so I'm easy :)

Same here. I have lots of Romantic suspense.

I am glad they all count as I am currently reading one set in the UK.

Claire | 4253 comments hey guys !
how are you today?
I had my first day back at university today. It's weird to go back after so long. Now that I'm back from my Erasmus in Ireland, I'll have a lot of work to do here. They moved all the important and difficult classes to the second semester. :(

I'm nursing a headache, meaning I'm going to skip Spanish class today.

I'm also in a boooooring team meeting, meaning I'm keeping an eye on goodreads whilst doing the newsletter and Feb challenge :D

I know how you feel right now. I haven't slept well last night and because of that I have a headache too. I hope yours will pass soon.

Aren't you ever afraid of being caught during one of those meetings? :p
