Team Book Raiders
Your itinerary is
here
When you have a team name, just let me know and I'll update this thread name :)
First stop - Santa Cruz De La Palma (Spain)
So just to get you started...Your first stop is Santa Cruz De La Palma, Spain
You can choose as a team to:
TASK
- Read books set in Spain, or by Spanish authors or
- Do a spell-it-out of Santa Cruz De La Palma or Spain
OR
You can elect to do the detour, which for this stop, means that four of you need to "Read a book which has the main location (setting) as a cold/frozen country/world"
Hi Team!Just checking in. I'm from Lisbon, Portugal, I visited the Canary Islands a few years ago, but it was Tenerife, not Las Palmas so it will be nice to "visit" now.
I'm not sure yet how all this works - I kinda read the rules to assign teams while Karen was sleeping - and then warned Sara and Angel about the challenge... it looked like a good way of pretend I didn't want to sign in.
But, I'm sure we're all will have some fun trying to figure all out.
First thing first. Any ideas for a cool name?
Just check on the rules again... so, if I'm reading this right, if we chose to make a detour, we'll get more points, but we only can do 5.List of Detours:
1.Read a book which has the main location (setting) as a cold/frozen country/world
2.Read a book where the ISBN10 number has exactly 3 even numbers
3.Read a book where the page numbers add to 20 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12)
4.Read a book where the first word of the title is The
5.Read a book that mentions a Greek god.
6.Read a book with a yellow, orange or golden dress on the cover
7.Read a book with a mobile phone on the cover
8.Read a book shelved (listed on the first page of the "top shelves" of the book) as romantic-suspense - plurals and minor spelling variations are acceptable
Stops
1. Santa Cruz De La Palma (Spain)
2. Aberdeen ( United Kingdom)
3. Gassim (Saudi Arabia)
4. Novosibirsk (Russia)
5. Kolkata (India)
6. Darwin (Australia)
7. Christchurch (New Zealand)
8. Boa Vista (Brazil)
hi team,I'm Chava and I'm from Melbourne in Australia. I'm new to this challenge. I'm happy with anything people suggest regarding this challenge. What does everyone prefer: spell out or setting/authors?

I guess it depends on the stop. UK, Australia and New Zealand are pretty easy, but I don't know any Saudi authors... Suddenly, Gassim sounds pretty easy to spell *giggles*
Hi Team!I'm Sara and I'm from north-western Italy. I've never been to Spain or any other of our stops before, so I'm pretty sure I'll have much fun with traveling there by reading books from my comfy chair ;)
I'm still trying to figure out how this new challenge works, just like everybody here I guess :D
Any ideas for our Team's name?

If you really wanted to, here is a list of Saudi Arabian authors :) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...

I like it! :)
A few others: Bookish Wanderers, Bookeaters United, The Book Trotters.
Hello Everyone. I am Grace and I am in Northern Ireland. I am fine with a book set in Spain the spell out or the detour, The detours aren't too bad, the only one that could be hard to find is the mobile phone one.
I am hopeless at names
Page to Place
Armchair Wanderers
Hi Grace!I agree with the mobile phone task. The romantic-suspense one wouldn't be easy for me either as it's definitely not my kind of genre, but I think I'd be fine with the others.
Sara wrote: "Hi Grace!I agree with the mobile phone task. The romantic-suspense one wouldn't be easy for me either as it's definitely not my kind of genre, but I think I'd be fine with the others."
Maybe some historical-fiction-romantic-suspense?
Since I saw twilight in the real problems listopia page I believe in everything.
But that's fine. It would be great if I could squeeze in the books I have already lined up for February too. They are quite a few actually...
the rules of this challenge are quite complicated. I think I need to read the rules again :-Ppersonally, if I have to chose between setting and spell it out I take spell it out.
in the detours the romantic suspense is the most difficult for me. I already have something in mind for the mobile phone
Angel ~ ✿ Claire ✿ wrote: "in the detours the romantic suspense is the most difficult for me. I already have something in mind for the mobile phone"Ty&Zane are romantic-suspense, I think.
*goes check*

I don't know what a pig trotter is, but I promise I'll check it out when I'm not at work.
Hello team! I actually woke up before my alarm because I was excited to see if a team was assigned - I think that means I'm excited about the challenge :)You all have such great name ideas! Love it. I'd be pretty happy with any of them - and I feel glad to be on a creative-thinking team.
Hmm...so if I read correctly, the detours give the most points? So if we can only do 5, should we choose the 3 we won't do ahead of time? Or should we choose as we go along?
I'm happy to be travelling with you.

Maybe because I had prepared myself for no Ty&Zane relevant presence. Yes, Kelly's whining annoyed me to no end... and don't get me started on Nick or how they solved their issues... but I liked the non-life threatening plot for a change.
Plus Owen & Kelly's phone call had me laughing so hard the cat ran away. And stayed away.

I think we can chose the 3 to let go ahead. If we opt for that action. Then decide stop by stop what we prefer.
I don't mind spell-it-outs... and Sara, you can use translators' names for your italian editions :D
Yeah it looks like we have lots of options for spelling things out - I'm happy with whatever. And I just noticed anything we start after this thread was created can count towards the challenge, so that is nice.Ha I hadn't heard of pig trotters either, but now that I have, I see how you got that mental image!
I like Armchair Wanderers too - no pigs in that one - but really all of you had great name ideas!
Sonia wrote: "I don't mind spell-it-outs... and Sara, you can use translators' names for your italian editions :D Really? Authors AND translators too? :)
That's great!

Yes. I got that idea in gladiators when I read a Portuguese version of a German book and saw you mostly read in Italian. But we're already in round two, so no way to change it.
Then it slipped my mind again in tower teams... AND FOR THIS ONE I MANAGED TO REMEMBER ON TIME.
*happy dances*

YAY, thank you Sonia!
I'll keep that in mind when choosing my books then :)
So for this first stop - do we want to Spain, spell or detour? Either way works for me - it is nice that all three options are do-able.
Suzanne wrote: "So for this first stop - do we want to Spain, spell or detour? Either way works for me - it is nice that all three options are do-able."They are doable. I have a few north pole setting novellas that were 3 pages short to count for tower teams.
I'm not sure of Spain setting, but I can find a Spanish author or two. They are right there across the border :)
Would Russia work for the detour? I have a book which is mainly set there during winter if Russia does count. I think Russian winters are pretty cold :)And regarding Spanish authors, I do not have anything handy at the moment but I can get my hands on a couple books for sure.

Yep. I think even Elsa would have problems during Russian Winter.
I would GUESS Russia would work - I always think of it as cold/frozen. I have a book where the character is transported inside a snowglobe that would work if we go that route. I don't have any Spanish authors I can think of immediately, but I'm sure I could find one. Ha Sonia - you could physically find one =) If you do - make it a cute one!

Do you mean Winter Oranges ? I liked it.
If there is no minimum page require. I can read Mending Noel set at north pole but it is only 64 pages.
So I think for this phase of the trip I'd vote in order:1. Detour
2. Spell
3. Spain
But I'm happy with whatever the team decides. I know I can find a book for any of those.
