Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Has anyone out there read Ink and Bone and can tell us if enough of the story takes place in Egypt for it to count for that country?

Roseena Peralta (roseenaperalta) Are there any rules about rereading books?

I read the book back in 2014 and rereading it to prep for the movie to come out in March.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments You can use a book that you have reread as long as it has been 6 months since you last read it.

message 56: by Jen (last edited Feb 29, 2016 01:24AM) (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments My understanding is that you can reread a book no matter when you last read it. I think (or I thought?) that the no-rereads-until-6-months-have-passed thing was for Tower Teams. I think it says in the rules that any rereads are allowed. Or have the rules been changed? (Or maybe I was hallucinating?)

Actually, what the rules do NOT say is anything about rereads being disallowed. The only requirement for the books we read - and it looks like it's truly the ONLY requirement - is that they must be started during your Around the World trip. So if, like my team, you started your trip on February 1st, only books started after your start time on the 1st can count. So they can be any number of pages, graphic or regular novels, children's picture books or 1,000 page tomes, or a book you last read three months or three weeks or three days ago. ;-)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments All challenges be it in teams or not that I have ever been apart of or in this group or others it's always been 6 months, so I always wait 6 months to reread something even when it's not for a challenge. but that could just be me, maybe wait and see what other people say.

I have only participated (or am participating) in the Twelve Towers, this challenge, and Tower Teams IV, so I've only had the reread-restriction for TTIV, so far. I reread a book that I first read in December for our Stop #2 in February. We have a mod on our team and I wasn't ever told it was breaking the rules to count it, and I mentioned it was an already much-beloved reread for me a couple of times. :-)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I guess that rule doesn't really matter if the mod knew that it had only been 2 months since you read it last and they still counted it, but for me I am in so many challenges and the 6 month rule counts with all of them so I always wait the 6 months before I go for a reread, just easier because I hate not having a book count when it normally would otherwise.

I'm not sure I understand how the state is relevant? The spell-it-outs are for the city and country names

message 66: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments Well..I would think that you might want a specific state...seeing as there are Columbias in several states in the US...but it is the Capital of South Carolina....if we do for location rather than spell it out...wouldn't it be significant?

message 67: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments If it's not ....I won't worry about it....just curious

NBRC Travel Agent | 368 comments ◈ The task to complete at each stop is determined by the team. The team can either:
(a) read books set in that country or by an author of that country or
(b) complete a spell-it-out of that country or city

So it is only the country and city name that you need for the spell-it-out, or you read books for the country :)

message 69: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 5067 comments Oh..ok...so...it us irrelevant which state the author comes from or where a book takes place...it can take place anywhere, then in US? I mean...I get what your saying....but most countries have only one city with a specific name...regardless of county/ province or other governing body...the US, on the other hand has multuple places with the same name....that was why I was asking. But thank you.

message 70: by George P. (new)

George P. If your location is somewhere in the United States you can read a book set anywhere in United States and doesn't need to be set in a specific state or city so I think that's why the agent says that's not relevant.

message 71: by Catherine (new)

message 72: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm from the Book Well Traveled. We have to read a book that was nominated or won the GR challenge from 2012. If a book is on there that is a series book, can we substitute a book later in the series (for example, On Dublin Street was nominated under Romance. Could I read a later book in that series?)?

Thanks!

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments Hi all, Do you think this book - Fun Home A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel - has a picture frame on the cover? It looks like one to me, so do you think it could count for a "read a book with a picture frame on the cover" goal?

message 74: by Jen (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments Also, it looks like Stacie is still waiting for an answer to her question. (It's a good question, too; I'm interested in the answer.) :-)

It looks more like a place card that you would have your name on at a wedding to me but you should wait and see what someone else thinks.

There's also this edition - Fun Home A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel - which is what made me think it could possibly be a picture frame. I'm just not sure which of the two a hold at my library would get me. :/

message 77: by George P. (new)

George P. Jen in my opinion the first one is a card on a tray and the second one you showed is the same or similar card lying on a couple of photos but I don't see a picture frame.

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments Okay, thank you, George (and Stephanie)! I'll try to find another book that can work... Anybody know of any Urban Fantasies or Paranormal Romances that have a picture frame on the cover? :-)

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments Hello all! I'm from Team Eight Wanderers of the World. My team is wondering if my book The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah would work for a cityscape since it has the Eiffel Tower on it? Thanks!

~Michelle~ wrote: "Am I asking this in the right place? ^^^"

Yes, Michelle, this is the right place. I'm sorry no one has stopped in who can answer you. I'm inclined to say no, since you can't see any more than just that one landmark. Unless, of course, from that "high" up on the Tower, you really wouldn't be able to see more of the city?

But I was hoping someone else would have chimed in by now. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments I originally thought that as well, but this seems to be 'the classical' view of Eiffel Tower. Here's a modern era picture versus wartime Paris.

Does that change your thinking at all?

I don't know about the mods, but it certainly seems to me that The Nightingale has a cityscape on its cover if that picture is the view. :-) I'd say to go ahead and count it (if you haven't already, lol). ;-)

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments We haven't. We've been waiting for an answer. If I've convinced you, I guess we'll go with it. LOL!

Thank you, Jen! :-D

message 85: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I meant to come chime in on that, but was driving home from Canada when I saw it yesterday and was too tired to do anything but go to sleep when I got home!

It's a tough call, but I would lean more towards the no camp. It looks more like this side angle to me which shows the park around the tower, but not so much the city behind it.

message 86: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Peronsally, I'd say no the eiffel tower as a skyscraper. This is a definition of a skyscraper.

A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building of over 40 floors, mostly designed for office, commercial and residential uses. A skyscraper can also be called a high-rise, but the term skyscraper is often used for buildings higher than 150 m (492 ft). For buildings above a height of 300 m (984 ft), the term Supertall can be used, while skyscrapers reaching beyond 600 m (1,969 ft) are classified as Megatall.

It's tall but not a Skyscraper.

message 87: by George P. (new)

George P. Rachael, a "cityscape" is landscape- like view of a city. A skyscraper is something different.

message 88: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Thanks for pointing that out George I thought the discussion was skyscraper not cityscape. :)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments I have a question for the Travel Agent: Can we carry our extra baggage over into the next round? Or does the extra baggage start over on the next round?

message 90: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Btw, when we get our next around the world trip plan (business class)? Only after the 8th stop is finished or could it be abit earlier - to plan ahead.

message 91: by Jen (last edited Mar 20, 2016 06:30PM) (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments Rachel, I'm not a mod and don't know what the answer to your question is. Sorry! In fact, I'm not even sure what you mean by "extra baggage." But if you mean those books read since the challenge began but not yet used, then yes, they can be used for the later trips, too. (My team is using ours.)

Elinaly, You can get your Business Class itinerary any time your team wants it. My team has had ours since week five, I think. :-)

message 92: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Thank you Jen!
Looking forward the trip in business class ;)

NBRC Travel Agent | 368 comments RachelvlehcaR wrote: "I have a question for the Travel Agent: Can we carry our extra baggage over into the next round? Or does the extra baggage start over on the next round?"

My thought was that when you complete your economy trip you all go home, stretch, unpack, have a cuppa and a rest and then start again with brand new empty suitcases :)

But I see from above that Jen's team have decided to use the books from their economy round for their business class round... So I'm going to leave it to the teams to decide.
If you want more of a challenge I think you would start 'afresh'. If you just want to continue each trip like you never left the airport and keep using prior books then you can

Well, lol, I don't know what the rest of my teammates thoughts on this were, but mine were along the lines of: "I wouldn't buy a new wardrobe or suitcases (and I'd have the same books unless I bought new ones) every time I was able to afford a class upgrade, so why would I completely "buy" new books?" lol ;-)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Hello Travel Agent,

I'm writing this message on behalf of our group about getting a new itinerary, we are in our last stop of our journey and we would like to continue on to Business Class. I don't know how it works, if we get a new spreadsheet or not but we are really excited to continue this challenge.

I am not mod, but I can tell you what and how it happened to our team :)
Your current spreadsheet will be updated by Travel Agent (new itinerary will be added on separate page).
And probably you should send Travel Agent message (PM), the same way as you update your every stop.

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments I have another "is this a picture frame?" question:

This cover has what is probably intended to be a mirror, but since the image is different from what it should be reflecting, can a case be made that it's a picture frame? What's the verdict...Can it count for "Read a book with a picture frame on the cover?"

(You can click the image to see it bigger in a new tab, if needed.)

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments I messaged the Travel Agent last night (over 14 hours ago) with a question to clarify a rule. I haven't heard back, yet, and I was hoping to have a reply by the time I woke up and got online. :-(

If the Travel Agent is around. . . Can you please check your messages? It's rather urgent that we get a response as soon as possible.

Thanks!
