LexyLovesBooks My apologies if this question has already been answered somewhere in here, I did have a good search for this answer but couldn’t find anything.

Lately I have noticed a large percentage of books that are yet to be released that have the expected publication date entered into the “published (edition)” field but not the “original publication date” field.

What is the policy regarding the correct time to enter this information? Do you only enter the edition information prior to publication and then enter the original publication date after the book has been released?

I don’t want to add this information if there is a policy in place saying I shouldn’t.

There is no policy restricting adding the original publication date. However, when the publication date moves forward pre-publication, it is common for librarians to only edit the edition's date fields. So unless the date is firm, it may be best not to enter it for the work.
