Emily (eheckel) | 15 comments I started one of these threads last year, but just didn't finish it for whatever reason. I also have set my goal too high in previous years, so I'm setting a lower goal this year in the hopes that I'll finally reach it (and hopefully go over it)!! I have spurts where I read constantly for a week, then don't touch a book for an entire month--that's just how I am. I'm also going to count pages for this challenge, and I'll set that goal at 5,000! :-)

Emily (eheckel) | 15 comments #1: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 567 pages, 5 stars

I really, really liked this book! All of the characters were so likable despite their circumstances, and the narrator had an interesting perspective.

#2: Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes 311 pages, 5 stars

It seems like everyone who read this book read it in school for an assignment or something, but the premise sounded interesting to me and it sucked me in.

#3: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn 422 pages, 4 stars

I had heard such good things about this book, and it was captivating--but the plot left me wanting more. I didn't like any of the characters(view spoiler). But, it was interesting and felt like you never knew what was coming next.

Emily (eheckel) | 15 comments #4: Humans of New York Stories by Brandon Stanton 432 pages, 5 stars

I follow Humans of New York on Facebook and Instagram, and I love it! Brandon Stanton is such a talented man; his ability to capture such honest stories and photographs of ordinary and extraordinary people in NY is amazing. This is the kind of book I could see myself reading again and again, just because there's so much you could miss on your first read-through.

I enjoy the posts and book a lot. I liked the idea that so much life and love was happening every day that goes unnoticed unless you took time to look people in the eyes,

Right? I fell in love with the characters then was heartbroken by the end!

If I was able to cry about things like this, I so would have. I'm naturally not a crier when it comes to media of any form (books, movies, etc) but this one made me feel so deeply about every character that I feel like I'm being crushed by some sort of emotion monster. Such a powerful book.
