Gian Piranio The author created a storyworld by giving history of what the world used to be, and then transitioning the reader, into the harsh reality the character lives in. The main conflict that is established in the story-world is that aliens have decimated the worlds population making it tricky for the main character to decide whether to trust people or not.

CoffeyQ The author stresses what point of view the story The 5th Wave is being written in by firstly talking in second person, by directly talking to reader about what her parents used to call her and the world used to be, and then rotating to 1st person to show the reader what the 4 previous waves have done to society and her endless need to survival. She uses first person to narrate her views of what is going on around and then 2nd person to explain to the reader what her past was.

Gabi Maldonado The mood of the pages 67-69 is depressing. At this time Cassie is talking with her brother when Sammy asks, "does god hate us[...] Does god hate Mommy?" When the author writes this it is heart breaking because after Cassie and Sammy lost their mom they felt betrayed a higher p=being for not keeping her family members safe.

message 7: by CoffeyQ (new) - added it

CoffeyQ The tone page 88 from Cassie is disbelief, as she had just watched one of her friends Crisco, get shot in the head from one of the aliens and was helpless to do anything as he had come out of no-where and couldn't do anything to stop it. She then ran into the forest questioning what had just happened before her eyes.

CoffeyQ From what we have read of The 5th Wave so-far the story is mainly science-fiction but contains realistic elements of realistic-fiction which would make it a hybrid of multiple genres. What makes the story science-fiction is that fact that aliens have come down from space and have quickly diminished the worlds populations and has left the world without much hope for survival, not only this but many other things can make this book so far science-fiction. What also could make it realistic-fiction as of right now is the fact that there are still places in the book that actually exist and that YOU can visit, and therefore the books still has some elements of realistic-fiction.

Rosine Stevens I love this book too!!!! cant wait till i get the next book...

Gabi Maldonado For the majority of the second part of the book it is left ambiguous of who is narrating that part of the story. This lets the reader gather all these facts and hints of who the character is and then reveals who the character is. I think that the author does this because at that moment it was unnecessary to know the narrator of the part because it was more important for the reader to have the characteristics and what the character is going through at the moment especially in this book.

CoffeyQ The author has created a storyworld that has been mostly destroyed except for a few spread out survivors in The 5th Wave, in which aliens have come down and are destroying the world’s populations with the 4 waves with a 5th to come, and them being “Lights Out” or when they cut off all electricity on the globe and killed 500,000 people, wave 2 “Surfs Up” or when they flooded all the coastal cities on the globe., the 3rd wave “The Red Tsunami” is when the aliens infected birds with a virus that had a almost perfect kill rate. And the 4th wave “SIlencers” or trained assassins disguised as humans to wipe out the remaining human populations. The technology that exist in our storyworld is similar to ours, but the aliens have far more advanced weapons that they are using to destroy the human populations. The world looks physically diminished, and destroyed from what the aliens have done to the earth and has left the nature to its own devices.

CoffeyQ The storyworld impacts the choices, decisions, and consequences of the characters in our story, The 5th Wave, is that the world has turned again it’s inhabitants, by that the “Others” have come down from space and are using the “4 waves” and are using them to turn nature against the people, firstly they sent out an EMP Wave and knocked out all electronics in the area and killed 500,000 people, after that the “2nd Wave” flooded all coastal cities and killed most of the people, after that the 3rd wave killed 97% of the world’s population and then after that the “silencers” were sent out to kill the remaining people. The impacts that had against the society is the fact that most of the world is now currently dead and now there is little hope for survival. The decisions that have lead up to this point was whether or not to fight back to get back what the people once had and by doing that more and more people have died and the people are left mostly defenseless. The consequences of these choices and decisions that have been led up to this point is the fact that now humanity has a very slim chance of survival and hope for the remaining people to continue fighting back against the others and take back what they once had, All together our storyworld is filled with choices, decisions, and consequences, have all impacted our storyworld. The why our character cassie has made a decision is at the start of the book when they are told that Cassie (The Main Character) is not allowed on the bus, but Sammy is, the way that this impacted our storyworld is because now Sammy is missing and we Cassie is trying to find him, and if she had let him go on the bus then Sammy would most-likely be safe right now instead of probably being alone by himself questioning what is going on behind him. Another decision that was made early in the book was what to do when the silencer shot Cassie in the leg and instead of staying out in the open and trying to fight back which most-likely would have gotten her killed, she ran underneath a car and hid and waited for the silencer to pass as he walked past her many times. The way this impacted our storyworld is that fact the main character Cassie could’ve died and then we wouldn’t have a story to follow and Sammy would be all by himself. Another choice that impacted our storyworld was the fact Cassie and Sammy’s father was killed by one of the soldiers, and as he was their only motivation to keep moving on without their mother Cassie became the only parent-figure that Sammy can currently look up to. Without this choice the storyworld as we know may be very different from what it currently is and the characters might not be in a as depressing scenario.

Gabi Maldonado Evan Walker had the choice to save Cassie or just pass by the nearly dead girl without doing anything. When Evan made the decision to save Cassie he made a new friend or even a girlfriend. by saving Cassie Evan allowed Cassie to live which impacted Casie a lot because now she could have the chance to find her brother and Evan now also had a reason to keep on surviving the attack; Cassie. These two friends had their lives turned upside down but through all the pain literal and mentally Evan made the decision to help Cassie and that ended up benefiting all of us.

Gian Piranio A choice that the main character is faced with in my book is whether she should crawl out under the buick and run or risk staying there and dying. The main character chooses to run out of the buick. She doesn’t make it far but makes it farther enough so she can get saved. The impact of the decision is good. She is able to get saved by another survivor and is able to fight and live another day. She is able to rest and heal before she can finish her journey of finding her little brother. I think this was a good decision because if she stayed she would have bled out from her wounded leg.

Josh smith The choices she is faced with either staying under the car to die or get up and run. The choice she makes is to to try and get out of the car and run to shelter.

CoffeyQ An example that is possible in our story that is only possible because of setting is that fact that humans are killing each other because they no longer know who to trust from the 4th wave which has the “Others” coming down from space and disguising themselves as humans. The only reason this is possible and legal is because the world no longer has people to enforce the laws and in a survival situation the people are killing each other to survive without realizing that they are just diminishing their own chances of survival. Another action that is only possible because of setting is the fact that people are robbing from the stores what little supplies are left in them, and the reason this is involved with setting is because most of the world has been destroyed and in an effort to survive an apocalypse they are trying to find food and medical supplies so that they can live to see another day. Overall many actions are only possible because of setting because of the previous conflict that have occurred in our book.

Gabi Maldonado In the book the fifth wave Cassie almost shot her friend because she thought that he was a silencer (or someone that could hurt her). This action only happened because there is an alien invasion happening and she feels like she can't trust anyone. This wouldn’t happen in the previous days before the invasion and killing because they were safe and comfortable. People

CoffeyQ Trust is the hardest loyalty to keep; this is what we think the theme of our book is

Gian Piranio The ending did not resolve the conflict. But there is series so we expect that there will be a resolved ending in the last book. Although the conflict was not resolved in this book the ending did give us some closure on Ben and Cassie's relationship.
