Michael J. Brooks (authormjbrooks) | 16 comments Question 1: So, everyone, I need a sanity check. Is it ok to find a fictional book character hot?

Question 2: If so, what is it that makes you mind-drool over a book character that you can't see or touch? Is it the physical description of the character? Or a combination of that with other things about the character?

Question 3: If you're willing to share, what are some book characters that you find hot?

In the end, I think all this speaks to the power of words on a page and how they can manifest inside our minds.

Stephanie | 20 comments This is definitely a thing. I loved Fred Weasley for a long time when I was growing up. I tend to like the smart, nice (funny is a bonus) guys in books who are slightly underdoggish (not a word but whatever) but have a lot of potential. They give me someone to root for as well as someone to crush on. I find that physical descriptions have very little to do with who I find attractive in books. I think you will find everyone's answers vary quite a bit for this question- attraction is such a personal thing.

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 145 comments Hell yeah; if you don't then I've failed as writer ;-)

I write mine sizzling hot, but try to leave something to the imagination. If I give you a bit of a description and behaviours hopefully your own mind fills in the blanks so you have your own vision.

I've read plenty of hot guys, often dark brooding vampire types.

Mr Grey just didn't do it for me.

Each to their own.

Enjoy
xx

My take? Intelligence is an aphrodisiac in men. Women of a certain kind have always gone for the Mr. Rochesters (Jane Eyre) and Peter Wimsey (Dorothy Sayers) because of that brooding intelligence.

That type of woman is my target audience.

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Personality over description for me. A woman who is sharp but kind, confident but compassionate, tough but vulnerable usually does it for me. Physical descriptions aren't usually all that important (as long as she's not described as beastly), because being human isn't always a requirement!

Paula Houseman (paulahouseman) | 75 comments You bet! If it's not okay, then I need to be committed.

I think we need our fantasy life (& characters) to balance out reality, which can be harsh.

The kind of fictional characters I find hot are kick-arse ones (Lee Child's Jack Reacher); smart ones with a sense of humour (Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar); mysterious ones (Robert Crais's Joe Pike). But I’ve totally fallen in love with Ralph Brill, a character I’ve created in my own book!

So maybe I do need to be committed. If I am, Ralph’s coming with me (along with all my other imaginary friends)!

Mimi Marten | 61 comments I agree with G.G. what is the point then? We have enough reality in our every day life. :-)))
